i just found her due to that silly HP commercial with the baby going 55mph in a baby walker. but now looking into her music... what an amazing artist and soul.
a truly underrated artist here. so sweet, thanks for posting.
@johncoxy2112 that's exactly how i ran into this song! bought the 45er since i collect her vinyls and boom, there it was.. the killer B side.. what a tune, really...
It's from the album "Gather Me" ; made with some help from a great jazz pianist (and I believe her significant other for awhile) Roger Kellaway. Yeah, me too; this song has a way of tearing me up clear down to my soul. What a beautiful human soul she is. Just the sound of her voice can calm me down, or lift my spirits. Thank you Melanie Safka for enriching my life here on Earth. Peace baby
This is one of the most atmospheric songs that have ever been released. The fact this was a b-side to Brand New Key demonstrates what a versatile artist Melanie was.
@MrKaliom A favorite song from my youth that I had forgotten about. It's still awesome! I agree that there is something strange about the sound, especially at the end. I used to think my record was printed slightly off-center (which did happen occasionally). Now I am looking for a great song from Lay Down (Candles in the Rain), Lovin' Baby Girl. Is it here? Is it coming? Is it buried with my vinyl collection?
the beginning ,,,with the crackling of the vinyl is classic.......

EXQUISITE songwriter, quite possibly the most underrated songwriter that America has ever produced.

And don't even get me started on Bobo's Party.

There's something very strange with the instrumentation, I always think the backing strings are *this* close to going off-key.
