  • Always something!

  • But that organs aren't as beautifull as the organ in Passau........

  • It's nice you people worship a pipe organ, I like that. I suggest a Catholic Church where Christ is actually present as we worship Jesus Christ and NOT Martin Luther. Thenk yew.

  • @Eldonstromberg1 Yes, but you have to understand- with today's church- regardless of pipe organ or guitar- all churches are nothing more than performance halls. The only thing missing is you don't have to buy tickets. I don't agree with Catholicism at all, but I equally have a problem with other denominations in general...

The church today has been reduced to nothing but an entertainment and activity centre...

    Regards, Nigel

  • lovely and very well presented.

  • @sk8er1979 : The organ is tuned constantly - several days a week - year in and year out. It is the only way with an instrument of this magnitude.

  • Did anyone notice that the organist is really quite good? Why all the jabber during such a performance?

  • Maby the greatest yet, but i think not the beautifullest of the biggest...

I think Passau is MORE beautifull than that.

    Maby not bigger, but nicer......

  • Excellent illustration of the integration problem of controlling five complete organs---one down the nave, one down each transept, and two at the crux of a Gothic cruciform Sanctuary---from a single console (in this case, either of two five-manuals). Probably 200+ ranks, including mixtures, between them all.

  • well over 20,000 pipes there!

  • So, how many pipes? Thought Crystal Cathedral was the largest church organ, 16,000+ pipes if I recall. Even my favorite organ in Ocean Grove has 10,823 pipes. Calvary Grand Organ 11,499.

  • @hopejonesfan The last number I saw was 20,417. There are only 3 pipe organs larger that this one; the Boardwalk Organ; the Wanamaker Organ, and the organ at West Point Cadet Chapel.

  • @moller11739 : And tonally, the West Point instrument is the best of the three, IMHO.

  • Have heard this organ many times in concert, but this church is way too small for this great organ. Should be in a great cathedral somewhere in Europe.

  • @2468HOTROD : Point taken. The full organ (God help us!) is too big for St. Peter's in Rome. But gorgeously voiced. And the Gigout was the perfect demo piece. Credit to the organist - he played it flawlessly. But I would have liked to hear it without the commentary.

  • @sk8er1979 What about St. John the Divine in NYC? Or Passau Cathedral in Germany I believe. In any event, this is still an awesome instrument, and I really enjoyed the Grande Choeur Diaglogue!

  • Absolutely wonderful. My first knowledge of this organ was through M Murrays 1984 Bachs Dminor toccata, and it is still the gold standard!

  • Put the statistics to work; one day would never be enough on this numerous instrument. It's the best of every genre pulled into one. Imagine the unique qualities you could create on this instrument! I am glad a church, somewhere, somehow has decided to embrace how significant the organ actually is. Great historical preservation as well as artists. Thanks :)

  • What a beautiful video presentation this is! I will have to go and check it out next time I'm in LA... Thanks!

  • Very nicely done. I'd love to spend a day exploring this instrument.
