They are just wood. I think bamboo.

I find most of the disposable ones harder to use as they are much lighter. These are re-usable wooden ones, but they are not that heavy either. Just right!

Everything you do requires qi! But to answer your question more fully, all you need to do is practice!

Haha, that's kind. To be honest though, it isn't hard to get the basic skill of it. Just try! To become accurate, just practice at least 30-60 mins per day for a week and you should be quite good already!

There are some good tutorial vids on youtube already. My tip if you try: don't worry about power. Don't try to throw too hard or your technique will get messy and the stick won't... stick. When you have the technique, you can practically just flick the stick at the board and it will penetrate!
