At 2:07, Neil Peart is demonstrating PERFECT position. This is incredible. Technically, this entire album is brilliant beyond belief. I appreciate that I was in my teens when they were in their prime. I truly appreciate them. One of my favorite bands and definitely my favorite drummer. Thank you for this video, Rush!
Awesome!! Thanks for posting!! This would sound amazing if I could hear it on the right side though....it only comes through on the left and it drops off at the 19 second mark. But the quality of what is coming through DOES sound good.
I remember editing videos in school (5 years ago) on similar editing machines used for this video. They were very simply types of effects (wipes, fog, etc). Damn, seeing RUSH recording at Le Studio is something I wish there were more videos of.
I think this is one of my favorite Rush songs. It's also a song that I can sing that doesn't force me to hit too high of a note. I think I sound pretty close to it.
I thought Rush put out a video for Red barchetta from le studio, same format ect. but i cant find it.....was I hallucinating or is there a offical video of this song????
Great song, great video, great band. What I want to know is how they went from making awesome videos like this one to god awful abominations like the Time Stand Still video. The Distant Early Warning vid ain't so hot either.
And don't think I don't know Rush....I've seen them 12 times and been a fan for almost 30 years.
I remember me and my friend pretending we were these guys doing this video, using his brother starburst Carlo Robelli Ric copy and some headphones. Still If I had to pick a best, ever, The Camera Eye by about one millionth of a half %, then everything else the did.....
I remember in my mid teens traveling on the road as a summer job moving furniture. I was listening to my Walkman listening to The Camera Eye just as the Manhattan Skyline came into view. Of course the first buildings I saw were the WTC. We were in jersey at the time but had a drop off in Jersey City. I begged to go into Manhattan but we had to run. I always wanted to go back. that's been 27 years and I have never got to see NYC. LOL Long story but great song and memory
"Leave out the fiction-the fact is, this friction will only be won by persistence.Leave out conditions-courageous convictions will drag the dream into existence."--The best f--king band ever!-Rush rules! Genius lyrical and instrumental virtuosity!
This is 1000 times better than the first version! Thanx for this Updated Version. I agree this Song would be Awesome if they could pull it off Live, there are a lot of Songs I wish they could do Live like Xanandu, Farewell to Kings, Countdown, Losing It, just to name a few!!!
RUSH is one of the Best rock and roll bands of all time. The only band that produced better songs than the mighty Rush was, of course the "MIGHTY LED ZEPPELIN.
i dont want to sound ridiculas but, raggae?? Raggae c'mon man a canadian band (RUSH) doin raggae-hellll no. And your right this album competes with the best albums ever made...dark side of the moon-o.k. computer-zepplin IV-the white album-the doors(1st)-east of edens gate-the list is long but this album definatley competes. Nothing against raggae but no where near the sounds (steele drum anyone).
The bass tones you hear on moving pictures were recorded using several basses and multiple passes and the tone was chosen by mixing it. Thats how we were able to get that gritty tone for each song. The bass tone itself was chosen and mixed in the final stages of production. Thats a direct quote from Terry Brown in a 2 hour conversation with my brother back in 1987 when he was looking for a producer....
Hmmm, as a drummer who's attempted to imitate reggae, I don't see any attempt (from Neil) in this (perhaps the bass line to a small extent).
Reggae is awesome, so is Rush, and this is one of my top 5 favorite Rush tunes of all time.
ps: If you want to see some white guys who do a half decent job of imitating reggae, search for "dreadlock holiday" by 10cc (other than that, stick to Bob Marley :-)
Well, it's barely close to a real reggae groove at all. The guitar is the closest thing to reggae on this. It's the really unique cherry on the top of one of the best albums ever. Amazing second side to the album - Camera Eye, Witch Hunt, Vital Signs. Wow!
Norm is a figment of your imagination. The song would suggest you lose him in childhood or at least those around you do too which compounds the situation.
dude i first heard this songon MTV- loved it immediately.definately overlooked, prob in my top 3 Rush faves.Peart writes GREAT lyrics!!Besides being a BEAST on the drums!
That whole Moving Pictures album is an audio masterpiece. Even 27 years after its release, it still sounds like you could release it today, and it would sell millions.
I can't even find the words for how much I love this one! Like it takes my body and mind over, and whatever I'm doing, I stop in my tracks just to hear it through!
Thanks for posting this video!! It takes us back to when music was good and meaningful. Rush was one of my favorite bands and eventhough I still play this song often, it was great to see this video. Mdharfman was right....it was when MTV started and there's nothing like those days anymore.
God , If your listening ?? I promise to be nice to everyone I cross paths w / 4 the rest of my life...If , you have the Boys include this in the 2008 Summer setlist!
Yes. Neil was wearing Microphones on his chest. At the time of recording this album Neil was constantly experimenting with new ways to record the drums, and he explained to the engineer that what he wanted to hear on the album is what he felt in his chest, therefore, they experimented with microphones on his chest.
I know that I'm a little late, but that thing on Neils shirt was some kind of recording device used as an attempt to capture the sound of the drums from Neils perspective.
This is such a cool song. It is one of my favorites off of the Moving Pictures ablum. The video quality is much better than that of the first one. I like seeing the studio setup. Thank you for posting this. Geddy is and forever will be my hero.
One of their more underrated videos but has always been a favorite of mine!!!!! I was glad and happily surprised they played on the Tour this year. Thanks for postinjg it!
