shalom rubashkin offered his home to a teen group at our shul to sleep by him on shobbos. mind you, he wasn't even home. While at his house, other people were staying over, and another family had their sheva brachot there all in the same weekend. I am a personal recipient of shalom rubashkin's kindness and a witness to his charity. . . he may have messed up but at least give him a judge that didn't initiate illegal search warrants and then later judge a case she said she had nothing to do with.

@mriamsirota I have read that his actions were not different than any company; there are many ways to represent actual value. Anyways, whenever they would apply for a loan, the bank would go through their records and it was they who approved the loans. Even now they admit to that (and they profited much also). The real problem is that after the raid, they could not sell because the gov threatened that Rubashkin could not be employed there. Even though only they knew how to run the business.

I never said that I'm embarrassed of being Jewish. I am embarrassed when members of my religion commit crimes in public and then groups rally to defend it in public. I don't know about there being no legal precedent, but I'm pretty sure the life sentence wouldn't be on the table if it was so unjustified, which, if it is, I'm sure he won't be sentenced with. I say let the court system work its magic. He is innocent until proven guilty, but he has been charged with a pretty heavy load.
I am orthodox. Rubashkin is an embarrassment to the religion, to which I, a frum, yet socially aware Jew belong. Rubashkin was charged on almost 60 counts of child labor law violations, adding up to thousands of misdemeanor charges. Being frum does not excuse us from following the law. His behavior is a tremendous chilul Hashem as is defending it. Maybe he should have considered his family as he broke the law of the country in which he lives on a daily basis. He deserves whatever he gets.

Sholom Rubashkin is currently on trial in Waterloo, Iowa, charged with employing (illegal alien) children younger than 16 in his meat packing plant. I was in the courtroom for a day and a half, watching some of the proceedings. I believe he is currently facing as much as 25 years for his other crimes, of which he was convicted.
While these facts were presented by the attorneys, in the presence of the judge, neither side objected. The trial should end in late May.

shalom rubashkin offered his home to a teen group at our shul to sleep by him on shobbos. mind you, he wasn't even home. While at his house, other people were staying over, and another family had their sheva brachot there all in the same weekend. I am a personal recipient of shalom rubashkin's kindness and a witness to his charity. . . he may have messed up but at least give him a judge that didn't initiate illegal search warrants and then later judge a case she said she had nothing to do with.

@NesanelS To continue: Then, when they could not get him on those 'charges' they resorted to others things - like a roundup of employees - which is something that had happened by other plants, yet, in the end, they found not one illegal citizen working there. Now, at that point, sine there were no more employees, they tried to hire new (the old were not allowed back as they were under arrest) but they could not replace the experienced and in end the plant failed. @NesanelS Now, to conclude: the accusations about not paying the cattle on based on the following: there is a remote law which was drafted in the early 1900s that certain cattle suppliers must be paid within 24 hours. This law was made to satisfy certain unions and HAD NEVER BEEN USED IN A COURT OF LAW UNTIL NOW. So this is the 'broken law' about the cattle suppliers; no butcheries follow this law and, like all businesses follow the typical 30-day payment plan (probably with interest too!) TY NS

@DanHadan I don't know what this is based on but it is important to remember that newspapers lie; even prestigious ones. Now regarding the case itself, it is well known that a scheme - a MASSIVE scheme was brought against him - and started primarily by PETA. After they had campaigned against him two years ago, this gave people a very bitter taste; even though it's all nonsense. So there is a lot to think about. It's not so simple about what it seems.

Most of what is going on is just characters who are out to get him; whether out of jealousy or agenda or simply becaause once they tried to get him and couldn't, they were embarrased and upset. The money matters are small and certainly do not warrant anythingh near what they gave him. One of the proofs in the pudding; the judge gave two years MORE than the TWENTY FIVE YEARS the prosecution asked for!!!

DONT employ workers without proper papers (SMR must have known that all these documents must have some fakes)
SMR's good nature (to never turn anyone down) is what he is being persecuted for

@mriamsirota I have read that his actions were not different than any company; there are many ways to represent actual value. Anyways, whenever they would apply for a loan, the bank would go through their records and it was they who approved the loans. Even now they admit to that (and they profited much also). The real problem is that after the raid, they could not sell because the gov threatened that Rubashkin could not be employed there. Even though only they knew how to run the business.

I never said that I'm embarrassed of being Jewish. I am embarrassed when members of my religion commit crimes in public and then groups rally to defend it in public. I don't know about there being no legal precedent, but I'm pretty sure the life sentence wouldn't be on the table if it was so unjustified, which, if it is, I'm sure he won't be sentenced with. I say let the court system work its magic. He is innocent until proven guilty, but he has been charged with a pretty heavy load.

I am orthodox. Rubashkin is an embarrassment to the religion, to which I, a frum, yet socially aware Jew belong. Rubashkin was charged on almost 60 counts of child labor law violations, adding up to thousands of misdemeanor charges. Being frum does not excuse us from following the law. His behavior is a tremendous chilul Hashem as is defending it. Maybe he should have considered his family as he broke the law of the country in which he lives on a daily basis. He deserves whatever he gets.

@oralfixij: I am also at least as upset about the chilul Hashem aspect of this case as about the actual abuse of workers, violation of child labor laws, etc. The fact that these abuses were perpetrated by a prominent Orthodox Jew, who runs a company that is directly related to the practice of Judaism, gives fodder to the anti-Semites. "Chilul Hashem" ("disgrace of God's name", for non-Jews reading this) is considered a very serious offense in Judaism, so it really makes these crimes much worse!

This video is an embarrassment to the Jewish community. Rubashkin was abusing hundreds of illegal workers for years at his factory. Just because his tax fraud was uncovered during a raid on his illegal operations does not mean he did not commit the crime. Just because other CEO's are guilty of dishonest and dangerous behaviors does not mean that Rubashking did not commit the crime. Jews must live by the law of the land, especially those in public positions. Life WOULD, in fact, be justice.

Sholom Rubashkin is currently on trial in Waterloo, Iowa, charged with employing (illegal alien) children younger than 16 in his meat packing plant. I was in the courtroom for a day and a half, watching some of the proceedings. I believe he is currently facing as much as 25 years for his other crimes, of which he was convicted.
While these facts were presented by the attorneys, in the presence of the judge, neither side objected. The trial should end in late May.

What in the world is going on. I cannot believe it, but since it's really happening we must open our eyes. Folks, if they could even bring up the possibility of a long sentence, much less a life sentence, then there are powers that are dictating life events and we are losing our freedom in our beloved land. I, for one, shall lose all respect and faith in the US justice system. This is no better than the Soviet Union or any of the other dictatorships we have fought so fervently against.
