  • cool crankshaft

  • COOL!! but... what does it do?

  • @CH1LLH it can be attached to a car. engines can make cars go faster than normal wheels

  • that's not the right firing order its 1,4 and 2,3 both in sync like 1,4 up 2,3 down

  • @mjndblain That depends on which I4 we're talking about. However, by all technical means he has it firing every time the piston hits top dead center which is also wrong. That's only showing 2 strokes which would be impossible to maintain. It's missing Intake and Exhaust strokes. The pistons should hit TDC Twice per 4 strokes.

  • still cool though

  • Nicely done

  • Whoa too impressive but it wont be able to fit in a car :/

  • useing pressure plates, sliders and thusters?

  • nice fly wheel. i like the idea

  • I play gmod regularly and have been playing for about 4 years, is there anyway to build something like this and resize EVERY component of it so you can make a nice engine like this that would be real size, Ive seen other ones but none with the pistons that are small.

  • @TheAgentbrady101 its a thought but 1:not Source engine wise possible 2: not feasable in small form anyway. You'd really feck up the weighting management and also screw up the collision models.

  • @physicmad true, it was just a thought anyway, but resizing it and maintaining "aspect ratio" so to speak. and keeping all the welds the same, or parenting them for total strength, though it is most likely not possible (yet). But, don't you agree its a good idea :D

  • @TheAgentbrady101 i did make possibly the smallest 4 cylinder version of the above using the smallest objects in the phx model pack i could find. the engine was rediculously fast. So fast infact that it reached source engine's max angular velocity. worked out to have a RPM of around 650 i think. tried to make it go faster with a mod i found which unlimits the angular velocity but the engine destabalised just after 680 RPM XD and we know what thats all about LOL!!!

  • @physicmad Frowns.... STUPID COMPUTER LIMITS lol, thats sounds like fun, currently though, I havent had time to just play gmod, I've been making sweps and trying to find some cool models to use. My recent addon mp7 was a hit and recieved only 1/20 negative comments.

  • @TheAgentbrady101 it actually Exist a Resizer tool :)!

  • @anotaren79 sweet, though I moved on from garrysmod :( I play minecraft now :)

  • @TheAgentbrady101 me to :D

  • @TheAgentbrady101 well atm it is possible, you just need the "potato chamber" prop under miscellaneous props in PHX and the paint bucket under Useful Comic Props, there you have your piston and cylinder :> then you need a pole from robotics and gears, then just align and place stuff, then use rigid rope and voila :D have in mind, the heavier, the stronger the weld is

  • Not really an engine, the crankshaft you made is made up of 4 different pieces spinning on different rounds.

The crankshaft should be all one piece.

  • @diablofocker1 it is one peice had about 56 welds.

  • 61 people live in the modern world - 3 people are still Amish

  • kinda fucking awesome

  • 2:04 minutes of my life wasted...

  • @AAAZ2A No one gives a fuck.

  • Is this even useful?

  • omg

  • Epic

  • Beasty! (I recommend no thruster effects or sounds)

  • omg this thing is sweet, all the engines i make are just powered by a motor or forcer :| im not all that good with wire engines

  • Thats awesome man.

I am trying to build my own engine :D

  • That looked like some lego shit lol

  • An engine doesnt work that way, It has 2 up and 2 down

  • @GarfieldDK some engines have it like that

  • DFTT. Kthx.

  • i think they cal it an inline not straight engine

  • thruster sound -.-

  • This really gave me an idea :3

  • waste of time

  • Yes you are. Let's see you do something more productive. Go on, now, stop trolling.

  • Garrys Mod 10

  • Gmod.

  • Nice, the only problem with it is that you're using sliders, they will not work on an object that isn't frozen.

  • They do work, just make sure to no-collide the objects and advanced ballsocket them. Maybe even add a rope in there to limit the length.

  • it will spaz out if you ask anyone who makes motors on gmod for a living they will say the same thing

  • "makes motors on gmod for a living"

What the hell? You don't get PAYED to make stuff in Gmod. Anyway, I use sliders to make engines loads and they never spaz out as long as you make the weights correct, make sure to no-collide them and don't let the sliders go beyond 500 units long.

  • if you really took that seriously you are a dumbass, since you want to be perfect about everything let me rephrase that.

If you ask someone who accualy knows quite a few things about engines in gmod they will say never use sliders because they will fuck up your engine.

  • I actually know about engines in gmod. I make them all the time. I always use sliders. If you do it right they're ok 90% of the time. Anyway, how do you propose you build a (relatively) small engine without sliders?

  • @Dth091 by the way I noticed your comment about using sliders on engines, and I tend to agree it's a shifty way to make them. you should instead use wiremod hydraulics, much more stable!

  • Ahem, Not to get involved but its "Paid" PAID. *clears throat*

  • That's an americanism. Either that or I just suck at grammar :L

  • @Dth091

    1. That was sarcasm, obviously

    2. How the fuck would you know if someone got paid to make something in GMod? You wouldn't, so stfu or gtfo

  • Wow, it's hard to get a non-rope engine to work. Nice!

  • OH NOEZ THE ENGINE DIED XD

  • How did you make that?

  • Are there any good tuts for the primitive mechanics mod around?

  • the "primitive mechanics mod" is just a bunch of props. so no.

  • i tried to make the explosions more realistic with dynomite. all it did was lag my computer to hell then turn the wheels to the motor into gibs.

  • 15 hours? I made one just then in 1 hour :P

  • i made one in 15 minutes!

although the rigid ropes proved deadly. the motor flipped out and killed me.

dont get me started on the dynamite experiments.

  • 1 Cylinder engines thruster powered or explosive take about 5 mins max. I've been working on explosive barrel powered engines which take a bit more skill...

  • way to make yourself seem like an asshat.

  • lol that's gonna be hard to fit in a car O.o

  • I recently took automotive and I've been trying to figure out how to translate even a 1 cylinder 4 cycle into gmod. I know how it works in real life now but I think that actually making one will be a lot trickier lol. Great job, I really need to learn how to use wiremod to better facilitate all that cool complicated stuff

  • BBQ?

  • wonder how long it took to perfect that driveshaft!!!! Good vid!!!

  • did the engine die?

  • its only failblog movies duh!

  • not anymore

  • nOOOO THE ENGINE DIEED!

  • Whoa.

  • at least PHX3 comes with the mechanics.

  • WOW!< I have worked with engines of all types, and this is an excellent replica of a 4 cylinder engine!, good work 5 stars :)

  • make a straight six or the leaning towe of power :P

  • stompee make sure you got latest version and redownload

  • its over nine thousand! stars!

  • smooooooooooooth

  • i cant seem to get my wire mod working cuz i cant use the wire tool... it doesnt do anything at all please respond if uhave a solution!

  • the all seems to be a 2stroke, engine, try a 4stroke engine. I bet it could be challangeing with all the correct firing order

  • 3000th!

  • The pistons look real but the engine representation isn't that accurate. Real Inline 4 engines have the pistons move in pairs. The inner two pistons move together and the outer pistons move together.

It's done like this to even out the power cycles and to keep the engine balanced.

  • Wrong 4 cylinder straights usually fire in order 1-3-4-2 not in pairs

  • I never said anything about the firing order. The firing order can be whatever it wants to, but the pistons move up and down in pairs.

  • If they fire in that order then they can't move in pairs or the timing wouldnt work

  • You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. I suggest you stop posting replies because you're starting to look really dumb.

Take a look at this video: /watch?v=u-c4JA9NaM0

Pistons move in PAIRS. Firing order is NOT linked to the position of the piston. Gasoline engines are the exact same because they both use the otto cycle.

  • if the "firing order is NOT linked to the position of the pistons," how would they then fire at the correct time? the timing goes out the window then. lol. but said pairs do exist, being first and third, fourth and second pistons, as stated, but they don't fire at the same time, and nobody said they did, and neither are sitting right beside each other.

  • Not all inline engines use the exact same firing order or fire the pistons at the same angles. You could have 1-3-4-2, 1-2-4-3 or any other number of combinations, but what I was saying is that you can't have the pistons succession in 90 degree angles on the crankshaft because not only would it have a huge gap in the power cycle, it would be unbalanced and put high amounts of stress on the engine parts.

  • only 1 3 4 2 and 1243 are combinations there are no others

  • 1-2-3-4 isn't a combination. If a real engine fired like that, it would probably explode from the massive stop-go torque on the crank shaft.

You can also either do 1-2-4-3 or 1-3-4-2 because the two inner pistons move with each other, and bar any strange harmonics, it wouldn't matter which of the two middle ones fired first.

  • if you look closely thats exactly what i said...

  • Where? The invisible spaces between the words? Dumb.

  • its the same order you fucking cock i just didnt put spaces in look at it closely

  • Lol he typed the same firing order as biggun but told him that his were incorrect. what a troll.

  • thanks for that i was beginning to think there was something wrong with my sight

  • Hey, to do a rpm counet just put a gyroscope on the engine, take its roll or whichever angle is changing, and put it through the expression gate as Rpm=angnorm($Roll)*3.6

  • kk thanks =)But ya its really awsome

  • OH SNAP THATS BEAST

  • yeah and it ain't easy to start either. the starter is there for a reason lol.

  • @physicmad you can just spin the gear with the the phys gun

  • Awsome... how long did it take to make?

  • "It took me most of 15 hrs to build not to mention the 3 times it spazz-ed out on me."

  • @physicmad Thats pretty sad actually, shouldn't take anywhere near that long. I've built better in ten minutes.

  • @ramialt lying bastard

  • @ramialt k if u can build 1 in ten minutes then make a vid and put it up on youtube...

  • @ramialt first of all.. this video is from 2008... and is build by several separate pieces.
