Over 40 years ago, I was in junior high school. The other kids were into the Monkees; I was into Zappa and the Mothers.

Just out of curiosity, (since I'm only 14) what did all the other kids think of Frank Zappa's music back then??? What was the first thing a kid would say after they listened to a song of his??? I'd really like to know, thanks! :)

Well, the Freak Out ! album came out when I was in jr. high. Most kids thought it was "weird"- but a few of us appreciated it. As more releases were made, Zappa & the Mothers had more fans.

Just as an aside: a girlfriend of mine spent a summer in Finland (1972) where a number of the kids learned English by listening to Zappa. They'd go around calling each other "Idiot Bastard Son", and such.

it really not that hard....Lets make the water turn black took me the longest to learn, but really its all in that C scale with some modified notes. Harry Your a Beast was easy, and same with Orange county. GOOD LUCK MAN!
