The reason you don't notice the change is because each change is around 3-5 BPM one way or the other.

But when there are 168 beats per minute, 5 beats either way is totally inconsequential to the listener and the player. It doesn't have any effect on how hard the song is to play.
Take a listen to "Greatest Man Who Ever Lived" for an example of tempo change that matters.
If you think 5 BPM every 3 seconds is inconsequential, I don't really feel we should be continuing this discussion as it'll be pointless.
