Man, those fast rivets on the first level were brutal. Can't tell you how many times I got nailed on the fourth floor on the right hand side. There was just no way to dodge if you got caught by one.
ha ha I remember this game so well in my computer class instead of learning how to type I would be playing this game and once I saw my teacher I would pretend to be typing lol the good old days :o)
Me too, but this game was originally designed on the Atari computers, so the Atari version had much better sound. That's usually the opposite case with most other games.
I remember HHM from an Apple ][ version, when my dad would bring one computer from his school home for summer vacation. That and Pooyan and Sargon (chess).
I don't think there was an arcade version. Exidy made a game called Hard Hat but it wasn't anything like this. If there was an arcade version, it's definitely not emulated yet. There were many cool early 80's games in the arcade that I wish would have been ported to the console & computer systems, especially from Japan. By the way, HHM rocks.
Wow, this guy is incredible at Hard Hat Mack! I played this game as a kid and I couldn't get past Level 2. This guy knows all the secrets and the timing to make mincemeat out of the game. A great game from the days when EA made avant-garde software and not shovelware. HHM was one of the toughest games ever and this guy tames it. Kudos to you!
@brighat It wasn't that hard, you just need to remember the simple patterns, if you want a hard game than look at Ghouls N Ghosts or Revenge of Shinobi, both are extremely hard to beat.
Oh MAN do I remember this game, when it first came out on the venerable Apple II. When was that, something like 1980 or something?? Good God...man did I have fun playing this back then. And to think this was what got EA off the ground, going head to head with the likes of Spy's Demise and Wizardry. Ah, the glory days...

nice work... took me forever back in the day to solve the Hard Had Mack... the 2nd level with the jump between the two clamps always got me.

Poor port with inferior sound (pretty common for games ported over to C64, sadly).

Hard Hat Mack is hard!
The farthest I got was about halfway through level 3 though, so I almost finished it.
It's too short though. There should be a lot more levels.
I guess they had to make up for that by making it harder.

HHM was designed for Apple 2. You can tell from the color scheme (black, white, red, blue).

I remember this game from way back in the early '80s. As a kid, I always thought the trampolines looked like red and blue Green Lantern insignias.

I never had a C64 but I remember playing this game on
my old IBM compatible. Fun game but the graphics could have been better.
