Rob Grill IS one of the most underrated bass players of the era......Its a travesty I know he really influenced my playing...May he rest in peace.....
Rob Grill was the soul of that group. the group he formed after the originals broke up did a really good job. Just wish some of the originals would jump back in. The new lead singer just doesnt have the same sound as Rob.
@atp1962 Yes, it's sad that the GR's have no remaining early members, except for Dusty Hanvey, who has been with them since '84. Mark Dawson is now the permanent lead singer since Rob's death last year.
now, I've heard of guitar players playing all over a song but, keyboard players doing it vocally? Kidding,.its beyond innocent, my grade school days, fun to listen too.A talented band as all members have unique voices, like the eagles.Keyboard player has a great range/tone & voice thats begging to sing lead.
@Bluebird9021 Kenny Rogers introducing....Rob Grill on lead vocals and bass, Dennis Provisor on keyboard and vocals, Warren Entner on rhythm guitar, Joe Larson on drums, and I think it was Reed Kailing here on lead guitar.
@bze2nlz4 I think the drummer here is Joe Pollard and the lead guitarist is (possibly) some guy named Terry (according to wikipedia). These two were only in the band briefly. Dennis Provisor was gone by the time Larson and Kailing came in and that is DEFINITELY Provisor on keys and counterlead vocals. Also that looks nothing like Larson's picture on the Grass Roots' site (hard to tell who the lead guitarist is).
@DiscoKat I forgot to add that this was from '72. Rick left the year before and Joel Larson took over. Just the vocals are live, so he isn't really drumming :)
Great song from the Grass Roots! Love the live performance! (I made a vid for the song too, but just still pics) This is wonderful Chris, thank-you for posting in high quality :)
@rwells47 -- Coool -- Kenny Rogers AND The Grass Roots in one video! The quality of the video and audio is stellar, bze2!! Many thanks to both of you for getting this vid to me! Straight to my 70's Faves!! Cheri/CCF
This is the best version of this video I've seen, not to put any of the others down because I'm always happy to watch any of them. But the sound and picture are really great. Thanks so much for posting, Rhonda
Well, I stayed true to my promise. This is definately a great video you posted. I was about 8 or 9, I'd say, when I first heard this song. I think my grandmother bought the single. See, every year, on my birthday, my grandmother would buy me a whole bunch of singles (ones I've requested). So even at a young age I had an appreciation for good music. This is definately a classic!!
Thanks Chris for posting this, and enjoy your weekend :)

With the better quality I can tell for certain now that Rick is definitely NOT on drums. Secondly, whoever is drumming certainly is NOT drumming....

He (Rob Grill) very handsome man. He was the perfect frontman for The Grass Roots! He passed on too soon. Sad!
