Hey I'm having problems updating to 10.6.8 from 10.6.3 I can give you my specs for my hackintosh if you need them her is the main stuff I have a Asus p7p55 lx an a gigabyte radeon hd 6850 just like you I have 4 gigs ddr3 ram while the os installs but I have 8 total please help me
cpukid00 Quick question about memory : DDR3 1333 . On newegg there are 3 types of memory .DDR3 1333 PC10600,10660,10666 . What memory do I need to buy for GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard with Intel Core i7-2600K ?
@tiberiud75 As long as it's 240 pin and in sets of 2GB (such as 4gb, 8gb, etc), the speed doesn't matter. the 1333, 1600, etc are simply the frequency that memory is meant to be run at. The higher the frequency, the better the performance.
Thanks for the great info. I'm currently researching/getting ready to build my first Hack; will be used for schoolwork, browsing, and video production.
I have a question regarding the parts: per the TonyMac "Recommended Builds" list, can I mix and match the components from the different builds to customize my own? For example, I'm looking at the Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 board with an i7-2600K and AMD 6870 graphics card. The parts are from different lists; will they work together? Thanks!
@dxiong5 Yes, you can mix and match the parts as long as they're physically compatible with one another. For example, don't try putting a 1366 CPU in a 1155 board. Make sure your parts will work with one another.
hey man i have a question for u have u ever upgraded your BIOS because i just bought the same motherboard as yours and i wanted to know and aswell when u where installing multibeast did u install the custom DSDT found on tonymac's database or u just install the drivers u needed???
Hey for AMD you don't need a distro, you can use a retail SL DVD and use iBoot LE to install it. You just have to be a lot more careful with them when updating.
Hey, I think your tutorials are very good. As far as power supplies go, your power bill doesn't increase because you have a 1000 watt power supply. It's just head room. If your system components draw 500 watts, the power supply will only draw 500 watts.
2 things, 1st great stuff but try to get straight to the point...your videos are too long. However, I do find them informative. Is there any benefit to having a lion system over a snow leopard system (aside from the obvious changes in the upgrade). I'm looking into building a 2600k overclocked system with 8-16 gigs of ram and a gig of video ram. I want to be able to utilize everything.
@Tarantula604 The videos are to the point. The point of this series it to give the audience every detail they need to know. If you try to do a video like this in 5 minutes, then it won't help anybody. They'll be asking all the questions that I didn't mention. Regarding Lion, it's definitely worth the upgrade. The new gestures and features like Mission Control are great. It's also overall a "snappier" OS.
@cpukid00 Constructive feedback is an amazing thing. I didn't say it because of how long it was, but because I was sitting there waiting for you to finish talking to get to the topic. It took you 60 seconds in to get to what this video is suppose to about.
@jamirou1 The webcam seen in this video is the Logitech C510 webcam, but keep in mind it behaves just like your does. It's an older camera, so I wouldn't recommend it. It works for apps like Screenflow and PhotoBooth, but you have to use the Logitech webcam software to record in 720p.
@brandonrobinson5150 I don't think so. The restore would work, but you wouldn't have any kexts needed for your system, so it's hard to tell if it would boot. It depends on your hardware.
@brandonrobinson5150 Yes u can just when you set up use a retail copy of mac os x and not a torrent as torrents are hacked to work so yeah also. what you need to do is when you install mac os x you need to to click restore from another mac then restart it . then use iboot and run multibeast as normal.
I built my PC before I even found hackintosh :P its awesome tho, for some reason my computer refuses to run iPC ir whatever one of those leopard remakes arem and it also refuses to boot it with boot132 so, i must use snow leopard, which is hard getting onto a single layer dvd because you can't do it on PC....
Since Apple uses Intel Processors for its Mac, then its sensible to use Intel processors. AMD procs can be used, but as cpukid mentioned require a OS X version that has been modified to boot on AMD. Whereas if you buy snow leopard on disk, along with iBoot or Lion (once got a way to boot) should have no problems on intel as long as compatible hardware is used.
AMD cards are the way to go as I commented on one of your last videos. GTX Fermi Cards suffer from the Fermi Freeze in Lion which basically means when you do something that uses the GPU you system will freeze for a couple of seconds and then resume. Happens to me in FCPX and After Effects on my Hackintosh. There is no proper fix for the Fermi Freeze yet :( I should have got a AMD Radeon 6970.
Great video man, I've check out tonymac website that you have recommend in your last video and i must say that its a great website, they have help me with choosing my parts. these are the parts that I've choose for my Hackintosh build:
1.GIGABYTE GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 Motherboard
2.Intel Core i5-2500K
3.AMD Radeon HD 6850 Graphics Card
4.COOLER MASTER CM690 II Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Case
Very informative, I got lion running on dual core celeron (I only suggest dual core celeron if someone is on a budget) & I have Lion running on a Dell Vostro 1510 laptop with a core 2 duo processor. Ive used both retail & distro, The retail version is definately the way to go but if you are looking for a easy way out then check out my tutorials (I covered iAtkos L1\L2) Ive used 3 different ASUS boards & 3 different nvidia cards with no probs. My personal experience & personal preferences. :)
@memoivoila if you are asking about the dual celeron....lol I wouldn't try to do any HD video editing with a celeron no matter how many cores it have, unless I have a lot of patience and possibly a good amount of ram (but thats just me). But judging from my test run, lion runs pretty smoothly on the dual core celeron, I have not did any video editing I only use my core 2 quad for that. But according to intel: the dual celeron was designed with music\video editing in mind at a budget price.
Hey i have a xfx 6870 card 1gb and i cant get 1080p boot up. the apple logo is really stretched out and not in ratio. i cant find a fix.... can you help?
@MrSwain4 yes i have graphics enabler on yes but it still has the blurry stretched out apple logo. I'm running on lion and idk what to do next... have any ideas?
@SC2Phan i have the resolution on there but its still stretched a bit and right before the login screen it gets really high def and proportional. i just wish during the whole boot it could be that high def.
@SolidStateTech I'm not a pro on the topic but when I did my research for SSD's, OCZ seemed like a bad idea. Apparently there are a lot of failed drives out there and the customer support is run by Al Keida or something, from the sounds of it. Anyway, I ended up going for a Crucial 64GB SSD with my build. I didn't exactly answer your question but hopefully still helped out a bit.
@cpukid00 I can confirm that the Core2Duo chips should work fine, I am running Lion on a Acer Aspire 8930G Laptop which has a Duo chip install, but as you have state this would depend on MB support. I bought it when I hadn't any clue what a Hackintosh is, it's a ASRock G31M-S R2.0.
