If you assume that everything good is from god and everything bad is either from humans or from that devil and that if you don't understand this then it is because you are not praying hard enough - then, yes, the bible explains everything perfectly.
Some of us have a little trouble with this model, however.
Shermer shows he does not know much about the Bible when he tries to equate several different "holy books" as all being equal, or even parallel in their explanation of why we are here on Earth.
Why is there evil in the world, asks Shermer? Because, as the Bible explains, we live in a world that is tarnished by the sins of mankind. God created the world when everything was good. When Adam and Eve first were seduced by Satan to sin, it created the Fall of Man, and sin and death entered the world.
You are blind and ignorant and from the words of your own master ' let the blind be led by the blind into the black pit' and that black stinking pit is called religion. You obviously cannot reason so why bother?
He's referring to the equality of the meaning of each holy book to it's believers. The bible is no more important or meaningful to someone who believes in it than any other book is to the people who believe in THAT book. And to atheists, ALL holy books ARE equal. They are all fictional attempts to explain the unexplained.
there is a good song to respond to shermers response to why we use God as an excuse and then move on....
the song is called : Abracadavers.
