  • reminds me of a gospel song

  • what a great picture

  • Love this version, probably more than the album version. More soul.

  • I don't want to meet the person that 'disliked' this video.

  • beautiful tune ;)

  • Reminds me of blowing in the wind a bit. With a hint of Nick drake

  • incredible....such basic questions with such impossible answers

  • I am curious about the lyrics of this beautiful, evocative song. Who did he hear on the radio? Is the song a tribute to an artist who has died, or a meditation on death inspired by.... who? Nick Drake, perhaps?

  • @stylofone its about the awe and purpose of the earth and the universe, but the verse about the radio I have been trying to figure out too.

  • @penguinsReatingmybra I read on facebook Robin IS talking about someone specific in that line- but he won't say who. So it remains a mystery, but that's cool too.

  • @stylofone @penguinsReatingmybra I also realised that Robin may be talking about hearing Carl Sagan on the radio, which would influence him to write this inspired peice of art. That's my official guess. :P

  • @stylofone Posted elsewhere by @Shane98c, he stated that this song is based on Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot. After listening to this lesson elsewhere on YouTube, I see how deeply related these two works of art are related. Share the knowledge! (And give credit where credit is due. :)

  • @KittyLightpaws Thank you so much for this information, I love Carl Sagan too, what an awesome inspiration.

  • This song takes me back to how I felt when I was an atheist... now that I believe that there's a God who created everything and loves us, and even though I have to admit that I still have a lot more questions than answers, things do make more sense, or, are at the very least, life is more hopeful... but whatever the case, questions like these is where faith begins, I think... or at least that's how it was for me. Sad but beautiful song. :)

  • @edwardtulane82 On the contrary, I don't think it's sad at all. It's something that we all think about and a factor of life. No one REALLY knows, and its a miracle. But i'm glad things are more hopeful for you. :)

  • @cheapsundae thanks for your reply :) in a way, it's not sad, in the sense that at least someone is asking questions, instead of just ignoring the astounding fact of existence, and the pain that goes with its beauty. and you're right that no one really knows. I believe in God, and Jesus, but I still don't fully understand everything that I believe, and no Christian does, though some may think so. Like the apostle Paul said in the New Testament 'We see through a glass darkly...'

  • @cheapsundae But it is a miracle, for sure. :) Thanks again :)

  • People be warned this version of the song is way better than the studio version which sounds nothing like what you hear.I was kinda disappointed but the song is still great.

  • its my fav FF new track

  • Thank god we still have Radio 6 here - was nearly axed though!

  • I think I have the same plad shirt as Robin. This is awesome

  • /awhiteantelope

here is one of robins alternative myspace, you can hear a lot of his new single stuff..

Very Good song indeed! Can't wait for the new album!

  • 2:16 NOOO

  • I wish I knew when their new album was coming out?

  • @julianwelton early 2011

  • i used to be big into the indie scene, but have outgrown it now. too many bands doin the same shit. not fleet foxes though. they're one of the best acts around in everyway, brother.

  • At 0:56 did they reference MGMT?

  • @panamajim I don't think so, we are fated to pretend.

  • @panamajim why would Fleet Foxes reference a band like MGMT, when the bands have no similarities? Just because a song has the lyric "to pretend" doesn't mean it's referencing a shitty main stream band.

  • @iTurtlesLike94

According to Robin's Facebook page (don't bother adding him. He's blocked), he likes Dungen, MGMT, and Neil Young. But even then, I don't think it's very probable that it's a reference, even if he does rock out to MGMT. And I wouldn't say they're shitty. Shoot, Joanna Newsom starred in their music video.

  • This song is wonderful. I can't wait for their new album!

  • I really love this song, and I would kill for a studio version.

  • Marvellous!

  • WHENS THE NEW ALBUM COMING OUT!?

  • they said middle of 2010 so i am assuming June or July

  • track 9 on the new album, dont ask me how i know that...

  • how do you know that? sorry you tempted me to ask by saying dont ask.

  • Thanks. I saw the Fleet Foxes live last June, and I think I heard it there (I didn't know them so well back then, so I'm not positive). Hearing their songs played on stage in a light drizzle with a festival audience is definitely an experience you can't get at home. I was just curious if there's any other "new" (i.e. not officially released) material out there.

  • Great stuff! Just curious as to exactly where this came from. Is it a TV programme on the BBC? If so, which one and did they perform any other new songs on it?

  • @DanHungerford5

This song came from the radio show BBC6. Robin Pecknold was interviewed and he played this song afterwards. They also play this song at gigs, absolutely amazing live.

  • ahh!! this is so good!!

  • Bleak, honest, beautiful. I have a real affinity with Robin, musical and reclusive, somewhat my idol in a non fanatical, bat shit insane kind of way.

  • Amazing song !

  • Wow!!!

  • nice sound.......quality*

  • God I can't wait for the new album

  • soothing

  • Please, does anyone know when the new album will be released?

  • You may know by now, but I read that Robin thinks the new album will probably be out early in the other half of 2010.

  • And how bout the way it's recorded.......like he's sitting right next to you in your living room; with very little effects, just raw vocals and guitar. Amazing!!

  • This song legitimately scares the daylights out of me. The things he brings up are, on a conceptual level, very intimidating. I love the song, though.

  • what a great song!

  • I love the lyrics to this. What a brilliant person Robin is.

  • Theres a lot of hunger for songs from Robin Pecknold and his band. Whenever they debut a new song on a BBC 6 Music Session its in great demand.

  • Brilliant. Can't wait for the new album.

  • @KillingFloor67 it saddens me to see this was posted a year ago. however, rumours abound with news of the new album being released soon. i await eagerly.

  • hey Qber for life, I am interested in the chords. Thanks

  • If anyone wants the chords, I figured them out

  • Beautiful song. Where is the song featured? Is it a B-Side or something? I'd love to own it.

  • it'll be on the new album

  • What pisses me off is that I uploaded this same song a while back, but BBC made me delete the video.

  • where can i download this?

  • omngg, this is such a beautiful song, it made me cry the other day, Thank You for putting it up!! ;) X
