Giving in to absolute fear of death and further pain is largely forgivable.

Lying. Profiteering, pandering, and boasting without compunction is an abhorrent disgrace.

The fact that other POWs in captivity were promoted in rank and Lt Cmd Mccain was not, is pretty damning.

Also accounts of the injuries and treatment he claims make his survival Christlike-crucifiction in nature.

McCain's side of things are hard to square up with science and biology, from my 3rd party view.

What difference does that make? Does the Constitution or Federal Criminal Code Title XVIII USC 2382 state that a person has to be in uniform to have been guilty of treason? Tokyo Rose and Axis Sally weren't "soldiers" either and they did time---the Rosenbergs never spent a day of their lives in military uniform but they still got the hot squat.
