@Hyper: The 5b is equipped with a Zenoah G290RC, the 5T has the 29cc Stock Engine. The Zenoah runs better and a little faster. But the Stock Engine is also Ok.
I disagre with ya on this, i think some part are a must for bashing as strength is what you want when you bash you baja, don't know about you but i like to run all day and not have to worry about the parts breaking. I'm not saying go out change everything to aluminum but some are a must have......
All Aluminum builds such as the one in your video are a bad idea for anything but shelf queens. The stress has no where to go and causes catastrophic failure of the chasis. Breaking points in the plastic parts of an RC save you from expensive repairs.
@Ifindadventure i have a full alloy buggy and a few plastic, id have to say id agree! when i crash the marder i get a broke part, when i crash the hormann, i get several bent parts, the energy travels through surrounding parts. The thing is alloy is alot more rigid meaning alot less play and loose bits and certain buggys are alloy for racing ,as in this case plastic wouldnt survive,. big crashes = plastic better, small crashs/landings= alloyalloy
When they began production in Japan they continued with the same compositions. If you do the math and add-up all of the thing you would have to upgrade in-order to bring a clone up to the Hpi standard, you are better-off financialy just purchasing the real thing in the long term, but if you don't have the cash like that, KM or ROVAN is a really good investment.
You are correct. What I meant to say was the Original Baja 5B (when there was only one color to chose from) was made in Europe during its first year. Not the 5T. I would bet money that the pictures of those chasis that you have seen were a result of more severe crashes. That simply does not happen that easily with my Baja's, only with my clones. Always issues with the metals. And aluminum is good for show and tell, but that's about it. Anything that can break plastic can at least bend aluminum.
I've never said they are exactly the same. Its easy, you get what you pay for. The KM Aluminumparts are very strong. I have never broken another Part. Only the Chassisplate. But i have seen Pictures with broken HPI Chassis also.
Price KM Chassis 35 Euro, HPI 120 Euro. So its an easy decision.
The Quality of the Engine is Ok. Now i drive a G290RC and this Engine runns really better. But the Performance of the Stock KM Engine is also ok.
,,,,,, concerning the clone comes from China. That is probably why this chasis did not survive what seems like such a routine landing for the real thing(yes the metal composition of the chasis is different). And remember, Fuelie is actually a namebrand known for durability of its parts and reliability. Clones will often say fuelie on the engine but it's not. American engineering and European manufacturing, that's the Original. But the Asians did one HECK OF A JOB. I've had both since their start
The clones are exceptional machines. The only probable set-back would or could be less durability and flexability in the plastics. The plastic composition is not the same as the real thing. The clones plastics are brittle. The metal composition is not the same either( cylinder, piston, crankshaft and even the fly-wheel).The original HPI Baja 5T was engineered and designed in California USA (HPI USA), but the parts were made in Europe and the assembly was also in Europe. Everything,,,,,,,
ok. So heres my review on the end result.
It's had the dick!

By the Way the HPI Parts are made in Taiwan.
