@LizziesAnswers Actually, there's more bacteria on mascaras than on lipglosses because of the huge amount of bacteria. The eyes are way more sensitive - mascaras shouldn't be shared. It can cause eye infections if the wand is super gross.
uh that is disgusting, i dont go no where near the testers if its mascara or lipstick, the only thing i'll probably test is a blush and i ONLY swatch on the back of my hand. But it is totally gross to touch or use the tester cause so many people use it, the number one thing you can get from using a mascara tester is pink eye and for lipstick its cold sores. That is ewww.

at my MAC counter, they cut the ends off of lipgloss and mascara tester wands so you can't apply directly from the tester, you have to get a sample wand.(;
UGH! Do swatches on your wrist, if it is a lip gloss in a tube, I squeeze it onto my finger....fortunately, places have things like disposable lipgloss and mascara wands that you use then throw out.
I once went shopping with a friend and she turned up with no makeup on specifically so she could do her makeup from the fucking testers!!! and this was in a fricking Target where you're lucky if they give you tissues to use.
It's been about 8 years since that happened, I've never went makeup shopping with her again.

I am with you on this, 100%!! I won't even test out products like mascara or cream products. I just buy them and if I hate them, oh well. one time i went to the Urban Decay counter for a shadow palette and since the counter wasnt busy the lady suggested i test out a new foundation that came out and she applied it using a used brush and a few days later i got a red patch on my face so went back to complain (because i hadnt used any other new products in between that time) and the same lady told me it was from using drugstore foundations. but thats not true cos i still use loreal foundation and nothing has happened my face since

lol My cousins did their makeup at MAC once and it was hilarious. Obviously, they didn't use eyeliner and lip stuff, but they used eyeshadows with the little tester brushes and they were going all out on their eyes. The MAC ladies were living them weird looks and I'm like laughing my ass off.

Even worse, the mom was LAUGHING at the little girls giving each other makeovers. I just wanted to scream.
I can't remember where I was, but the store cut off the wand that the mascara/lip gloss came with, just kept the lid on. It was either MAC or Sephora. I was happy when I saw that. But, like you said, DOUBLE DIPPING IS A NO NO!! Haha!

Nothing is more frustrating and disgusting than seeing someone use a tester like it's their own freakin product! And those are the kind of people that whine if they get a sty or a coldsore...hmmm...really? I wonder why? LOL! There really needs to be more education regarding sanitation etiquette when shopping for cosmetics.

I get grossed out when people do this because i went to beauty school and learned about all of the diseases and conditions that you can get from cross contamination. Whenever i see someone do this, i end up telling some stranger that they need to be careful because they can get herpes lol , but, i'm just keeping it real and enjoy being a bish

when i was working as a sales assistant, the ladies get the lip gloss on their lips and the most ridiculous thing? THEY TRY TO TASTE IT BECAUSE IT SMELLS NICE! (they do smell and taste like cotton candy, oh, and i bought my own, duh) i always try the lip glosses colour on the back of my hand and if i really like one, i would dap just a tinnie bit on my bottom lip because it's just not the same. then i would wipe it off immediately.
i always wipe the lip stick at least three times before using it...eye shadows and blushes i just swatch on ma hand en when ma hand is full i just spray some parfume on it or alcohol whipe it...cream whipe it again en i have a new clean hand to swatch again;P

OMG! At MAC the other day I was looking at lip conditioners & the lady said I could test it out on my lips because I was just swatching things on my hands I was like uhhh no thanks! Bleh soooo gross. Also when they did my make up they just used the testers....I really didn't want them to but they were like setting up a whole routine for me.... I'm like ew.
@KristenxBabe I've had my makeup done at the department stores (yay senior pics not really) and the testers they used on me where ones that they reserved just for makeovers, I believe. At one point the lady even opened a new tube of lipstick and every tester was thrown away after it was used.
oh my god, once, I was at a MAC counter in berlin, and I was looking for a red lipstick, and the guy selling the make up, just told me to apply it from the tester :(

I used to work at a Garden Botanika (before the actual stores went out of business) where we had test samples of makeup, and it bothered the living CRAP out of me when people would do this stuff. GERMS, people! Ew, ick, nast!

When i worked in the cosmetics department i was grossed out like everyday. I hated watching people dip their hands into tubs of body lotion and i also hated when they would take live product displays to use. Also, little kids mashing makeup brushes into all the makeup and smearing it all over their faces... Bleck.

At CCO they have Q-Tips for you to test them out like to see what they look like on the QTIP. I saw like three girls taking the q-tips and putting them on there lips and then gets a new swatch again! Imagine how many people had done the same thing.
Total common sense. Ive never thought of this but at the same time I never ever test products in store...I would rather just buy it and if I decide I dont like it oh well..lol.
it's not OCD, it's common sense. if you value your hygiene (and don't want a cold sore or pink eye), then being cleanly when using testers is smart. i can't believe some people still don't know proper tester etiquette. this is why i'm wary of using testers even with a q tip or after wiping them off, because i know other people haven't been using that method and it's pretty gross and unsanitary.

the reason we HAVE eyelashes in the first place is to stop things from penetrating the membrane of the eyeball, which is a direct route to your bloodstream and the brain. Say if someone who had a blood-borne disease, such as hepatitis B or HIV with or without knowing they had it, used that tester, then you used it...hey presto, you'd be infected. Lipgloss holds the same risks, but not as potent.
so yeah, listen to discodollies advice! Don't use the bloody mascara testers for god's sake!
@DeAd4eva616 I don't think you can get HIV or hepatitis by sharing mascara. The infected person would need to have actual blood coming out of their eyes in order to infect the wand, wouldn't they? Not that you should share mascara with people you don't know anyway, but that's a bit dramatic.

@haybay29 To get a blood- borne disease, like HIV or Hepatitis, there has to be a lot of contact with some form of that person bodily fluid. A lot of things can't survive out of the human body, or any carrier, for a long period of time. But say if the person had pink eye then you probably just got pink eye. When it comes to lip products, someone who has a cold sore could have used it and cold sores are a form of herpes. Basically, think twice before you use anything! Just be sanitary and safe
I just don't understand why they have mascara testers. Yes, you can see the color, but you really want to see how it goes on the lashes. They should have sterile one use wands that you dip into the mascara and then recycle. Somebody has to be on to this already. Or maybe its too expensive? Recycle.

but, truthfully i think they should have a display of the products then KEEP THE TESTERS BEHIND THE COUNTER. It would be sooo friggen' much more sanitary and the person who works there could get the test stuff out THEMSELVES to insure that it's clean.

when i was working as a sales assistant, the ladies get the lip gloss on their lips and the most ridiculous thing? THEY TRY TO TASTE IT BECAUSE IT SMELLS NICE! (they do smell and taste like cotton candy, oh, and i bought my own, duh) i always try the lip glosses colour on the back of my hand and if i really like one, i would dap just a tinnie bit on my bottom lip because it's just not the same. then i would wipe it off immediately.

i always wipe the lip stick at least three times before using it...eye shadows and blushes i just swatch on ma hand en when ma hand is full i just spray some parfume on it or alcohol whipe it...cream whipe it again en i have a new clean hand to swatch again;P

OMG! At MAC the other day I was looking at lip conditioners & the lady said I could test it out on my lips because I was just swatching things on my hands I was like uhhh no thanks! Bleh soooo gross. Also when they did my make up they just used the testers....I really didn't want them to but they were like setting up a whole routine for me.... I'm like ew.

@KristenxBabe I've had my makeup done at the department stores (yay senior pics not really) and the testers they used on me where ones that they reserved just for makeovers, I believe. At one point the lady even opened a new tube of lipstick and every tester was thrown away after it was used.

I used to work at a Garden Botanika (before the actual stores went out of business) where we had test samples of makeup, and it bothered the living CRAP out of me when people would do this stuff. GERMS, people! Ew, ick, nast!

When i worked in the cosmetics department i was grossed out like everyday. I hated watching people dip their hands into tubs of body lotion and i also hated when they would take live product displays to use. Also, little kids mashing makeup brushes into all the makeup and smearing it all over their faces... Bleck.

At CCO they have Q-Tips for you to test them out like to see what they look like on the QTIP. I saw like three girls taking the q-tips and putting them on there lips and then gets a new swatch again! Imagine how many people had done the same thing.

it's not OCD, it's common sense. if you value your hygiene (and don't want a cold sore or pink eye), then being cleanly when using testers is smart. i can't believe some people still don't know proper tester etiquette. this is why i'm wary of using testers even with a q tip or after wiping them off, because i know other people haven't been using that method and it's pretty gross and unsanitary.

I almost had to leave the makeup department , cause it was SO GROSE!! I never test it in my fice , I always test stuff on my hand :D

I totally agree. I work at a Walmart, and the testersare there for like, FOREVER sometimes, and they get sooooo nasty from people using them! They're like, all over the place. Two words. Facial herpes. That's all i gotta say.

the reason we HAVE eyelashes in the first place is to stop things from penetrating the membrane of the eyeball, which is a direct route to your bloodstream and the brain. Say if someone who had a blood-borne disease, such as hepatitis B or HIV with or without knowing they had it, used that tester, then you used it...hey presto, you'd be infected. Lipgloss holds the same risks, but not as potent.
so yeah, listen to discodollies advice! Don't use the bloody mascara testers for god's sake!

@DeAd4eva616 I don't think you can get HIV or hepatitis by sharing mascara. The infected person would need to have actual blood coming out of their eyes in order to infect the wand, wouldn't they? Not that you should share mascara with people you don't know anyway, but that's a bit dramatic.

@haybay29 To get a blood- borne disease, like HIV or Hepatitis, there has to be a lot of contact with some form of that person bodily fluid. A lot of things can't survive out of the human body, or any carrier, for a long period of time. But say if the person had pink eye then you probably just got pink eye. When it comes to lip products, someone who has a cold sore could have used it and cold sores are a form of herpes. Basically, think twice before you use anything! Just be sanitary and safe

I just don't understand why they have mascara testers. Yes, you can see the color, but you really want to see how it goes on the lashes. They should have sterile one use wands that you dip into the mascara and then recycle. Somebody has to be on to this already. Or maybe its too expensive? Recycle.

i totally understand where you're coming from.
when i was younger i was even afraid to use testers and stuff because i thought they had germs on them.
but, truthfully i think they should have a display of the products then KEEP THE TESTERS BEHIND THE COUNTER. It would be sooo friggen' much more sanitary and the person who works there could get the test stuff out THEMSELVES to insure that it's clean.
