For those still looking for editing software: Lightworks is a formerly professional-only editing software that is now being converted to open source. Public beta is available free, though registration is needed. IMO it requires a lot of getting used to but might just be what you need with all the professional features. Mind you, I don't work for them, but it's an editing program, and it's free.

The marks part is very important, but never do the same mistake to let visible to the camera the marks, as they did with the moon landed video on the apollo missions, where you can see the actual mark of one of the rocks with a "c" and then the "c" near on the "moon's" surface. ;-)

for video editors id like to throw a few out there, first up there is blender which has an incredibly rich compositor, and while basic, a pretty good NLE, plus theres add-ons being uploaded for different editing needs, then there is the lightworks beta which is for windows with mac and linux coming this year, its quite good, and as linux is my main os, theres cinelerra, kdenlive, and cinepaint (deep paint package used in various films such as LOTR)
