  • music isnt about being flamboyant

  • Fuck!

  • I haven't heard one single rapper in my life that could execute this kind of lyrical rhymes like aesop. I love hip hop and rap but he just executes his lyrics perfectly and smooth

  • Aesop Rock has fantastic lyrics, but in my mind is notorious for not always being understandable and not having the best musicality.

  • heard yall wanna float.

  • If you want execution and style Snoop Dogg is about the best. If you want soul it's James Brown. If you want lyrics Aesop is your man. Just don't complain if you don't have the time or inclination to sit down and decipher the cuneiform, because his shit is three dimensional.

  • @drodude301 Yeah they are, he has to be one of the top 5 Lyricist!

  • People attempt to compare this. But hes like an abstract artist. Yes he has very vivid and creative details and executes lyrics to perfection. But does any of it matter. And at that, do you really want to listen to this all day? You can compare an artist like this to the best. He may be more Lyrical then the Elite but his execution and style are nowhere near that of the best Lyricist. Part of being an Mcee is to entertain and captivate. There is endless lyrics but a lack of soul. Just My opinion

  • @07Proto it ain't for everybody

  • @drodude301 Agreed. There is no denying his lyrical content. But does that make him a good Mcee?

  • @07Proto

If you don't think Aesop is a "good Mcee", your opinion couldn't be of more hip-hop irrelevance.

  • @hideandgoseekjesus how? I think he is an amazing Lyricist. He simply does not complete the job of an Mcee.

  • @07Proto What is your definition of a complete emcee? 'captivates and entertains'? Doesn't aesop do this well? I think what you're saying is that, for you, it takes on the surface, in the pocket rhymes (like eminem) to make a complete emcee. Like i said, his style isn't for everybody. His 'lack of soul' makes his lyrics even doper, imo. I think you're just complaining about how it takes forever to understand him unlike most emcees. Or maybe you're just not into the lazy flow. Aesop>Em IMO

  • @drodude301 It s the Lazy flow. I like the Lyrics to feel like fire. I love the complexity in his lyrics, I just don't like the timing and delivery. Which as you said, you do like. I used to be a little Aesop fan when I was younger I first heard him, didn't like him, then listened again and started picking up on his flow and metaphors. So for a while I was seriously riding his shit. Recently I decided to listen to his stuff and as Ive grown in music, I just see where he missed the mark. JMO

  • @07Proto

An M.C. is obviously the abbreviated form for a master of ceremony. Although I haven't had the immense pleasure of seeing him live, in watching video of his shows, he is very true to engaging the audience and making them one with the ceremony. In what sense then is he an incomplete M.C.?

  • @hideandgoseekjesus I mean an Emcee. His music needs to captivate in the same sense as his performance. Not only that, but I don't feel he projects the Elements of Hip-Hop. Again JMO

  • @07Proto

An emcee is a derivative of M.C., the words coincide with one another. As far as the (any?) lack of captivation in his songs, I would say Float is a track where the lucid control of his flow and his aberrant poetic rhyming ability righteously yearn for captivation. Also, in questioning his lack of projecting the elements: he has rapped of DJing, breaking, tagging, social inequality while within organic(yet still paying homage to those who birthed the art form) rhyme schemes. Instead

  • @07Proto of flipping bricks, he is giving periodic tables to those unlearned and those who are trying to further abbreviate the elements. Of course, you are most certainly entitled to your opinion, as am i in thinking your's is frivolous.

  • @drodude301 thats for damn sure, i could play this all day and it would be like a sound track to my life

  • @drodude301 hey man you should take off this comment "it aint for everybody" cuz that way nobody will be able to read that douche bags comment. this way everybody can see it

  • @07Proto I don't agree with you, but I respect the fact that you criticized Aesop without being a complete dick. I like that you actually presented some sort of an argument and didn't just resort to "this shit is whack". It seems the discourse in the rap community is just filled with whiny bullshit, and hollow ass insults.

  • @yackon4game Thank you, it seems most completely disregard the positive I've said. He is a lyrical force to be reckoned with, no doubt.

  • 07Proto

I'd tend to agree with you, Some of his beats are brilliant + his flow & his use of the english language is amazing, but when push comes to shove i'd rather listen to something less complex.

It's kind of hard to appreciate why he stresses certain words etc when its so damn abstract unlike eg ODB/RZA of wu

  • @07Proto

or your not Blessed with the vocabulary and intelect to catch his complex simileis and metaphores and analagies. Maybe?

  • @FireDropTechnologies lol that sounds like some pretentious crap the real Aesop would say. I have made clear that I acknowledge his lyricism and that he is one of, if not, the most proficient in that area.

  • @07Proto Lol it depends on who is the best to you. All I have to offer is if Lil Wayne or one of those main stream artists is the best you, then you have no right to comment on music. However, I totally disagree with you completely. Maybe his voice gives the illusion that he puts no soul into his music however if you hadn't been dropped on that head of yours you could clearly tell there is. Holy shit so many redundancies in what you said. Bottom line you are stupid.

  • @TheGrimReefer727 Mainstream is not what my favorites can be considered (sadly). His voice, execution, and over processed lyrics(Have you read How to Rap?) make his songs seem soulless. From the soul = effortless. You would have gotten a proper reply had you not been a rude dick head. "Bottom line you are stupid."

  • @07Proto its not as much as its not for everyone. as it is not everyone can handle it. you should listen to a couple more songs before you compare aesop to these lyricists you speak of. just sayin. dont hate

  • actually it died after 90's period. plus show me a song white or black but especially that eminem made that is lyrically good enough to match aesop rocks "abndon all hope" from 1997!.. at the top of both of thier games aeso was 1 of those true unsung talented legends, more respect ditching the fame like dave chapelle. it's a sick satanic industry once you get famous you can't get out, power comes at a price, look up new world order, illuminati, hit songs today reversed backwards compare in bible!

  • I heard this 8 years ago & this is still WAY WAY WAAAYYYYYY more lryically complex than Eminem, em's just much more famous because of dre signing & the esposure to make hits..but aesop, LP, & company flow's "funcrusher plus" were on a WHOLE NOTHER LEVEL hip hop deflated after that.. matter fact "Funcrusher Plus" was MORE REVOLUTIONARY than wu tangs 36 chambers, dre's chronic, or bigs ready to die or pacs albums, that is black beatles hip hop equivulent of srgt pepper or revolver.2003's rap died

  • I hate how some people think he's just saying shit to say shit. Every one of his lines has some meaning, whether metaphorical or elsewise. In the words of aes rizzle himself "Of course [my lyrics] means something to me... Not to brag or anything, but for the amount of people who say I don't make sense, my last two records have sold like 80,000 copies, so it seems that there are people who I do make sense to and still support me."

  • @EvilTargi YO that was so ill thank you for that quote fam !! fuck the haters anyone who's dissin' this kid is jealous or ignorant , biggest influence in hip hop for me , one of my bucketlist goals is to see him live and talk with him straight up , respect.

  • I float.

  • toREZA1nr it prob justmeans that angel can do graet things one of them being that line...............

  • 8 people cant float

  • I'm Billbo Baggins wit stilts tippin the petri dish...

  • Aes hasn't been underground for a while, but that doesn't take any value away from him or his music.

  • ok.. this dude has some serious metaphors.. more meaningful to me then him.. im trying to decypher this.. anyone help me out? "this fallen angel could stich a wing with a shoe string" im guessing that parts just a different way of saying if he falls he will get right back up? that one seemed easy.. but most of it is hard to understand. he has good flow though.

  • @REZA1nr Thats the point of his lyrics, he got you thinking right? That's why so many hip-hop lovers keep coming back for more! The more you push yourself to understand the more you will grow.

  • @LebannersHook I feel you. True.

  • @REZA1nr it's been four months I'm sure you've listened to more of his genius .. you see now what hip hop can do .. and how incredible this emcee is I'm sure.

When everyone around me is busy drowning, I float.

When everyone around me is busy drowning, I float.

When everyone around me is busy drowning, I float.

When everyone around me is busy drowning, I float.

When everyone around me is busy drowning, I float.

When everyone around me is busy drowning, I float.

  • We all float down here

  • call up jingles.

  • okay that took a lil bit for me to get tha whole song. man, this dude is deep. good song

  • hate when stoners thro this on, this is so f-in heady, sickest rapper alive

  • We dont need no walkie talkies.....

  • go type in "ecg logistics intro" its raw as hell but its fuck'n tight.

  • these fus don;t understand your music they dont here it right

  • Now is you is the villain of my kabuki hologram cuz I hobble with hollow hands

that shit is fire man pure hip hop from the core

  • epiccccccccccc!

  • ok this proves weatherman

  • You never really catch the full vision of an Aesop song the first time. Seems like every time you listen again, you pick up something else that paints a pretty crazy picture.

  • @ pallymeat- That's how poetry works. When it is written by a sophisticated person, it needs to be read over and over for a true interpretation. Of course, we shall never truly know..(but we are allowed to have an idea..)

    Aes is this BOSS.

  • i dont have a CLUE what these words mean. but thats ok. the songs awesome. i have my own words anyway

  • @pallymeat Yea fo' Sho'

  • some of the best artists though are ones that convey something that everyone can get a connection from, both artist and audience. i feel that matters as well.

the beats are dope as well.

and then again its all a matter of opinion, and in that case, whoever makes the most money wins monopoly if you get my drift. and if that's the case most opinions are null and void to all others as well, so

its all about the music that you dig.

  • well put, although its tough to interpret the deeper meanings of alot of his lyrics, attachment to this music is much more emotional, I feel his words.

  • Ive listened to aesop for many years and even though i do think some of it is words mashed up that has wicked flow, but even the words he decides to use are going to have some meaning to him, even if its to deep for him to understand.

  • remember the Steven kings movie It when the clown says we all float and hes talking about being dead I think thats what he is trying to convey

  • It's called a metaphor. And every sentence you don't understand is one.

  • Aesop Rock is one of the deepest men ever.

    I'm serious.

Most of us can't even begin to comprehend what he means.

But I know, deep inside those lyrics, is a true meaning.

  • That's because most of what he writes is cool sounding jibberish. I like ace, and sometimes he does put down deep and witty lyrics worth dissecting. Most of the time though? It's just words. Mashed together. To sound cool. Over a real quality beat. Delivered with interesting flow. That's all.

  • man i kinda agree. if anyone would like to argue with this statement then i would like to see somebody make sense out of a few of these crazy metaphors

  • i go to like all of this fools concerts

sickest in the top of sickest rappers ever

  • Education is the cornerstone of any society

  • didnt say i didnt, genius

  • hear lots of words that you like.

  • ill let you find out what went wrong w/ that statement =)

  • IS YOU OR IS YOU NOT THE VILLIAN OF MY KABUKI HOLOGRAM

^ best line aesop rock ever spit imho

  • he's the pilot light for the new age......

  • @ugene1975 Or the lighthouse keeper...

  • Basic slightly it's seems like half a beat, literally. Dark not in the least though

  • aesop ,,,,,,one of a kind

  • aesop rock breeched hip hop 12 seconds into the appleseed intro

  • <3 fransan10

  • your a fucking jack ass. These are sick lyrics from a third eye perspective with an innovative beat. Who are you to judge what makes hip-hop? This isn't another cultural commodity for your mentally degenerate friends. Get out of the middle mind of America you ignorant fuck! People like yourself are the reason the market is flooded with the demand for this habitually uncreative "music" you call hip hop. Yall have successfully suppressed imagination for years to come. Good job! ASSS HOLEEEEEE

  • If I heard this in a club I would probably need to go home and change my pants because I shat them.

PS. There's a lot of breakbeat coming out in some of the better clubs, you'll hear a lot of hip hop/breakbeat like this in the clubs so I'm thinking buddy is just visiting some shitty clubs or maybe just doesn't get out much, who knows...

Also, music is more than that man, either way, sheesh.

  • Art.

  • aesop rock isn't hip hop its almost literally neo poetry, sorry if you can't grind some drunk chick to this as im sure doesnt happen at readings of blake or poe

  • uhmm no.. this is not rock... at all. just cause thats in his name doesnt mean thats the genera

  • lol another inbred redneck?

  • uhm what? i don't think you understand what i said... I think this is the definition of hip hop. NOT the stupid lil wayne and all the other lil's.. so maybe you should read the post before you mark it as spam and shit..

  • yea resorting to derogatory names to describe a genre ofmusic is ignorant, i think 8 ppl can vouch for me

  • im right though...

  • so any music that is made by a black person or ppl is called "niggershit"? jazz was made by black ppl & so was rock'n'roll, dumbfuck

  • no any music about killing other niggers and thier bitches is niggershit..

  • yeah i use to talk shit on lil wayne to.... but then i listen to the carter III from start to finish and i realized that lil wayne is fucken ill as shit dude...even though i like atmosphere and sage francis and aesop rock more lil wayne is up their with my top 5

  • theres no meaning to his work.. its all i got high and shit. or i wanna die cause im addicted to codeine..

  • ILOLD!

    well said

  • well, its where his inspiration comes.

  • see i like lil wayne and this underground stuff too

  • hmmm thats a touchy subject...i mean no one here should hate on who you listen to,all in all its music...but in my thoughts i dont like lil wayne, but that duznt mean you have too..its all good bro.

  • Comment removed

  • you define the word player hater so basically you hate on wayne then listen to his most popular album then jump on the bandwagon please go die...

  • how though he dont make sense and he dont sound that good to me, its cool then it settles in that, this guy sucks.. ya kno? i keep tryin to give him a chance but it never gets me all the way through like this shit... its like the saying oncce you go black you'll never go back... pretty much the same thing with slug an aes. cant go back to that playground bullshit.

  • sorry, not aes, i would make love to him in a non sexual way, i mean lil wayne.... he's the bitch haha.. man im fuckd up..

  • Where's the link?.. Definitely need to see that vid

  • @skopered where's the link dawg =O

  • @skopered link please!

  • this guy is brilliant

  • wht would you even mention wayne, he's not hip hop hes pop

  • this song reminds me of yoshi

  • Yup and I'm sure aesop could freestyle his lyrics as well, and I'd bet you he'd still own on that idiot lil wayne. Making stuff up as you go doesn't mean anything. It's about MAKING MUSIC.

  • Stupid fuck, Wayne would not stand a chance against and ACTUAL lyricist! Go suck a dick!

  • LOUDER, PLEASE!

  • lil wayne dont write his down, that dont mean he's like biggie cause its obvious he don't write shit down....

  • haha

    are you serious?

    everybody listens to that garbage.

wash your mind out with this.

  • rofl Aesop and Wayne shouldn't be put in the same sentence. Aesop's everything kills Wayne, rhyme, content, and production.

  • are you fucking mental? i like lil wayne but he is nothing in comparison to aesop you fag

  • I don't even think they should be put into the same sentence...Yea its hip hop, but they're at two opposite ends of the spectrums...Wayne is more about punchlines, while Aesop is more about the intellect and content

  • you don't wanna miss it!

  • man, thank you again for posting this.

  • Dream application to the reanimation...to the core...RAWR

  • the aes is backkk
