  • Who else didn't know about this movie till Obama mentioned it in his Brazil speech?

  • Saw this movie a few months ago for the first time. One word for it Enchanting! Made me really interested in Brazil especially in this time period. A true classic!!!!!!

  • @onlyoneme72032 This time is long gone my friend...nowadays nothing but nostalgia remains of this era...undoubtedly the most beautiful era that Brazil has ever known....nothing but saudade remains :)

  • I brought my daughter to see this film when she was six years old at Tulane University... she loved it. Odly enough she related to Sarafina instead of her cousin, who is the star of the show.....But then again she was only 6 years old, and did not understand the whole meaning of the myth or story wonce told. This film in my opinion has great impotance for inspiration.

  • @genvieve25 that is so interesting! as i was looking up clips from this film to show my husband, i was telling him about my parents taking me to see this film when i was quite young. probably around your daughter's age. all i remembered from it for quite some time was some vivid images. i did not fully understand it but it stuck with me.

  • it might be available on Netflix :) And on TV on mardi gras maybe

  • this scene is so moving at the end of the movie, when the children play Orpheus's guitar for him to make the sun rise, and you see Orpheus's animals running loose down the hillside while the kids are dancing :) makes me cry! thanks for posting it, it is so sweet.

  • Watched this movie over and over again.....soooo beautiful ! And this beautiful song alway's making me smile.....;-))

  • goosebumps

  • ITS BRUNO MARS!!!!!! lol

  • @Ruthiena Haha that does look like him

  • Qué bonito cómo presenta la inocencia de la infancia y además, lo innato que tienen los niños brasileños el ritmo en su sangre. Preciosa escena de una preciosa película de banda sonora preciosa.

  • WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THIS MOVIE?!

  • @JazZYJProds1 It probably will not be online. It's a bit on the harder side to find.

  • I have to rent this movie again...such a feast of mythic proportions!

  • This film PERFECTLY articulates my philosophy of life: universality!

  • HELP!

This clip is amazing and I am trying to find a similar recorded version with the percussive acoustic and kids singing, does one exist??? I checked over youtube and I only see different versions. Much thanks!

  • @Saoff It's the last track on the reissued sound track to the film. Try Amazon.

  • Orfeu Negro is such an excellent film! Direction, music, cinematography, story, writing, acting, costumes: all are excellent! In addition, one can see in this film a representation of Rio de Janeiro and carnaval in the late 50s. Without a doubt, one of my top ten favorite films of all time.

  • i need money

  • My favorite two minutes of film ever.

  • Brazil is such a beautiful country with beautiful people

  • i have seen so many movies in my life and this is one of the best movies i have ever seen ...brooklyn new york

    .

  • One of the best films ever made.

  • I saw this movie once, and said that i was gonna show my little girl who is now 10yrs of age. This was a beautiful story. :-)

  • I get goosebumps whenever I catch the end of Black Orpheus. The film itself is wonderful, but even you can't sit through it all, the last few minutes (Orpheus going to fetch his dead love Eurydice - only to be killed himsel by the stone of his jealous lover - tumbling to his death and resting with Eurydice in his arms) is worth it all. But these children dancing to this wonderful little song , and the beauty of the Brazilian countryside as a backdrop are truly the prize at the end! Thx for this!

  • I still don't get the ending of movie. Is there even something to get from the ending, or was it something to just enjoy? Either way I still like the movie.

  • @LCBpink This isnt how the Greek story ends but I think its to end the movie on a lighter note and show that it wasnt all for nothing, cause the torch was passed along to that little kid and it hints him and the little girl liking each other just like orpheus and eurydice

  • @LCBpink The film is a retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, except through the story of two poor black Brazilians. When both die, a boy takes up Orpheus's old guitar and becomes the new Orpheus, and the girl, the new Eurydice. So the myth repeats, and is retold again, just as it has been retold again and again since ancient Greece....

  • @LCBpink ....This is why the opening and closing frames of the film show an Ancient Greek stone frieze of Orpheus and Eurydice, to show the persistence of the themes of Love, Disobedience, and Destiny, and how those themes are still told, resonate, and apply, both in the Old and New World, white and black, among deities or slum-dwellers.

To me its a powerful and emotional message of the power and persistence of Art and the human condition.

  • @prouddemocrat27 Thanks for your clear explanation of the ending. Prior to watching this story I knew nothing about the Greek mythology of Orpheus.

  • The best!

  • Beautiful! Best ending of a film that I know!

  • Is this a certain song? Or is it just a tune?
