  • I want this video on my LG-200 phone.

  • The man who wrote this song was born in a county, in Mississippi near me and is buried in a cemetery near me.

  • At the end, why are they all punching the air as if they've just won something? lol

  • Amen! Wonderful toe-tapping old time gospel! I love it!!

  • going to see ricky skaggs on friday august 26 at watseka theatre watseka illinois

  • I believe you can always see the joy of the Lord in those that are for real... and when you sing your highest praises to the Lord for the Lord..It shows too!!! Joe looked like he was about to have a running spell {nothing wrong with that } Praise God!!

  • Richard Sturban as the 3M man!!!!!

  • Thanks for posting! Ya know, I stopped in because I have always enjoyed The Oaks - I was born in '64. It's a shame some feel compelled to judge, but that's not my job. God Bless Y'all.

  • do they have this song on one of their CD's? I would love to buy it. Thank you.

  • They are OK but don't put any heart into this song.

I grew up in the 'sticks in West Tennessee an heard MUCH better groups in our little country Baptist church of 50 members! These groups would come (an still do) for FREE; we took up a 'love offering' to help them with expenses.

I don't like it when people chase the dollar when singing Christian music. The Oak Ridge Boys left the Southern Gospel circuit to chase the dollar.

  • @jimbritttn same with my church we always take up a loving offering my church has bout 30-40 members and growing prasie God

  • I go to a Church of Christ sometime's and we sing this song.

  • Tonedef: Chris isnt playing the drums. He's behind Duane playing guitar.

  • The days behind me are so many and I feel I have very few days ahead of me. In such a case what a courage to know that there is a land where souls of men never die.

  • Awesome, of course. But who is drumming? Not Chris, right?

  • This HARMONY is off the hook!

  • 6 dislikes the oak r the best so go somweare els to dis.and f u

  • Thanks to Mark for sending me this link. A great song by some great artists. Thanks so much.

  • Love them - excellent vid clip upload. Clicked for 261 points.

  • Which one of them is the bass voice?

  • @athull08 The thin guy on the right side of the screen. Richard Sterban. Before he joined the Oaks, he sang with The Stamps when they backed up Elvis.

  • @ramey58 Thanks. I just thought, somehow, none of them looked like obvious, stereotypical bass singers.

  • @athull08 Richerd sterban the far right

  • @SPIDERKARATE94 We've established this, but thanks

  • Thanks Mark for sending this one. I really enjoyed it very much. Harmony great,

    Margaret

  • Good!

  • Love this & the Oaks!

  • Words and music by William Matthew Golding or Golden (1878-1934).

  • Does anyone know who is playing bass for them here. I think he used to play for Lorrie Morgan. I remember Joe saying that he used to have a better view.

  • How I love this song, takes me to another world...... the arrangement, the terrific voices.......and the message of hope.......

  • Again my respected colleagues might squinch their eyes and ears at this. I am a man of study, I understand about automaticity but I am not immune from simple joys. This is a great singing toward a great wish.

  • WOW... ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL..!!! Thank you Mark (ramey58) for sharing this awesome video with me..:):)

Thank you also Oakswarrior for posting it for us here on YT.

INCREDIBLE talent in all these guys for sure!!!

Love and Hugs from Georgia, Joyce ♥xXx

  • I enjoyed this video especially the words!!

  • To me the Oaks can't be beat the way they break it down and sing they are the best. I love them always have since I was a little girl guess good singers will always have special fans.

  • Wow, great beard and great hair :D

  • Wonderful video and I'm with everyone else, great gospel music here without a doubt. Thank you Mark (ramey58) for sharing this with me. It's going into my fav's... Special thanks to Oakswarrior for posting it. :)

    Smiles and Hugs, Joyce :):)xx♥

  • The best gospel singing in the world to me God blessed these men and I am proud that I am able to hear them.

  • FYI: Richard sang with J.D. and The Stamps when they backed up Elvis.

  • Richard is great. Sings the bottom out of a note when he feels like it.

  • Snap your fingers, and that little click is slow motion thump for a half hour, compared to how fast God is gonna finish this thing! AAAAA

  • Richard Sterban is a great bass. I have to say I prefer his short hair to long, but that's just me.

  • thanx for posting i love how they sing this song!

  • I love these guys. They do a great concert. I saw them a few years ago and they were great!

  • Amen one day we shall see the son of God coming to take us all home.

  • the just keep getting better!

  • Love them.

    Thank you.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • This was great & to hear them on their "2009 "a gospel journey,"they've not lost a beat, wow, thank God for these guys being in my generation, what a gift...God bless you & yours..

  • They still got it!!!

  • Honestly I think that they sound better doing gospel than they ever have doing country. Thats just my opinion!

  • They always were.

  • the original Oak Ridge Boys or Quartet were indeed a Gospel Group! They can still belt out a gospel song!

  • how many years do u think dos it take to grow a beard that long

  • He started it in 1979 and it was that length on the American Made Album Cover in 1983. So, about 4 or 5 years.

  • i tryed to grow mine out but its way to itchy i could never stand it long enough to get it that long i tryed a few times lol

  • In the late 60's, I was the Ad & PR Manager for the Downtowner Motor Inns, based in Memphis. My boss dreamed up an idea to sponsor the Oak Ridge Boys on a TV show - and I found a station in Louisiana to produce it. Duane Allen & Bill Golden were in that group - different tenor & bass. It was their first real wide TV exposure, mostly in the South, broadcast at some dreadful times because I was too naive to negotiate better deals. Would have been 30 years ago this year or early next year.

  • does the tenor hav jerry-curls?..i think so

  • The depth of all Thy suffering

    No heart could e'er conceive;

    The cup of wrath o'erflowing

    For us Thou didst receive;

    And, oh! of God forsaken,

    On the accursed tree.

    With grateful hearts, Lord Jesus,

    We now remember Thee.

  • Thank you ramey58 for sending me this one. Love the song.

  • Love this song! Thanks for sharing :)

  • Actually, this is fact because I was there. William Lee Golden returned to the Oaks just after midnight. The actual date was 1/01/1996. The concert started at 10:00 pm on new years eve. After midnight they introduced Golden so he actually rejoined them on New years day.

  • I have always loved this song, and no one does it better than these guys, Just perfect 4-part harmony, it's good to hear them back to their gospel roots!

  • Damn forgot about these guys. Thank the lord for Youtube, being the can of worms, 60's music led me here. HOORAY. Oak Ridge Boys FTW !!!!! 5 STARS

  • Excellent gospel song from the oak ridge boys

10/10 Thank you for sharing and posting.

Thank you to Mark for sending.

    God Bless

  • Actually, William Lee came back to the group on Dec. 31, 1997, so if this was a November appearance, it would have to have been Nov. '97. Steve Sanders sang baritone from 1987 until November '97, and Dee Allen and Paul Martin covered the parts in Nov. & Dec., until William Lee did his first show re-joined on New Year's Eve '98.

  • I'm not christian but I love this song.

  • Anyone know when this was taped? The Boys are looking a little gray.

  • November 1996 at the Prime Time Country

  • I went to my first ORB concert at Six Flags Over Texas about 1980 and have been a fan ever since.

I used to try and sing the songs to my girlfriend, Now my wife of 24 years.

She used to tell me" Wait, listen,,,Yep they sing it better than you." HAHA

  • please check me out,...i'll reply no more,i shall not cast perils before swine,...got too many who'll listen,...not argue

  • GOD in mercy sent His Son To a world by sin undone; Jesus Christ was crucified --- 'Twas for sinners Jesus died. Oh! the glory of the grace, Shining in the Saviour's face, Telling sinners from above, "God is Light" and "God is Love." All who in His name believe, Everlasting life receive; Lord of all is Jesus now; Every knee to Him must bow.
  • perils before swine? I thought the Bible said pearls.

  • it's the same thing just spelled perils in fjv, that i have...God bless you & yours...

  • no they're not here yet read JUDE they left their place of habitation & are being held in chains, but when satan is kicked outta heaven Rev.12:6,7 they'll be with him...

  • I like the Oak Ridge boys.

  • Again, "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?" (1Cor 11:14)

As for the comments about my dad, I sent you a message with my name and address. I would almost pay you to stop by. Judging by your profile, you seem to do a little travelling, so its not too far fetched is it? But then again, you're probably part of one of those sorry so-called "christian" quartets - never in church, change just to suit the crowd etc. nah, you won't make it.

  • it says that but,it means because the fallen angels are coming back,to seduce women,if a man has long hair it would be perverted, when them and satan get here, before the REAL CHRIST

  • That is conjecture. "For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels." (1Co 11:10) That's probably the verse your referring to or you might just be reading scofield's notes? Besides, do you think the fallen angels aren't here already?

  • truly one of my favorite songs.. great job guys.

  • I really enjoy the Oak Ridge Boys Gospel - they sure know how to get someone's attention (with their songs)

  • the second from the right looks like John the Southern Baptist.

  • That's William Lee Golden, from Alabama, whose appearance resembles the traditional Blue Ridge mountain men.

  • My dad is from Blue Ridge. But he thinks men with long hair look like sissies.

"Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?" (1Co 11:14)

  • Enough with the overblown stereotype about the South being purely Christian. We have plenty of unwashed, unsaved folks here - and we always have.

If your dad is so screwed up that he worries about other men's hair-dos...have you considered that he might be gay?

There was an era when MOUNTAIN MEN, who did not live in nice suburban towns and did not own scissors or have barber shops, had no way to cut their hair - and couldn't care less. There are bigger things in life. Like finding food.

  • william lee,is with oak ridge boys,..not alabama

  • He's from (i.e. born and raised in) the STATE of Alabama. That's what "from Alabama" means.

  • oh,ok please forgive,i misunderstood,God bless you & yours

  • BEST GOSPEL SONG EVER! GO OAKS!!

  • This is one of my favorites too! They did this one live in Branson here recently and just made my night. They sing Gospel at all their shows, but had never done this one. It was great!

  • The best quartet I have ever heard was called " The Cathedrals".

  • They're a great group aswell

  • Excellent revision of a classic. Love the Oak Ridge Boys and William Lee! Super job boys!

  • Jesus Alone Can Save

    Jesus Is The Answer!

  • It's not just religion, this is a fact that Jesus can save and is the answer.

  • Love it! ;)

  • Go, tell thy wants to Jesus,

    Thou needy, anxious one;

Spread out thy cast to Jesus,

    And look to Him alone;

    To God confess through Jesus,

    He's faithful to forgive;

And love the name of Jesus,

    Through whom alone we live.

  • Jesus Alone Can Give You Peace!

    Jesus Alone Can Save You!

  • Absolute MAGIC. God Bless the Boys!

  • Great version of an old gospel classic.

  • Awesome!

  • THE OAKS ARE STILL AWSOME!

  • There will never be another group like the Oaks. They lost something when the lost Willaim Lee for several years. They weren't bad with Steve Sanders, but these 4 are just magic!

  • @cnwyjr

You need to come to Tennessee an hear some of the other Southern gospel groups; some are far better then the Oak Ridge Boys! The best groups are those that go to the little country churches and perform for God and not the dollars!!

  • How does Richard Sterben get down so LOw....It's incredible!!!!

  • "Old Fashioned, Down Home, Hand Clappin, Foot Stompin, Southern Style, Gospel Quartet Music" LP on Columbia Records.

It is also available on "The Best Of The Oak Ridge Boys," also on Columbia, which is still in print on CD.

  • What a great song to watch being sung by the Oak Ridge Boys. I bought this LP when it came out!

  • What album is this song on?

  • I think the name of the album was "Where the Soul Never Dies". Anyway, it came out in January 1977. (Their first country single hit the airwaves in the summer of 1977. I remember the deejay saying "No, that's NOT the Statler Brothers.))
