I believe you can always see the joy of the Lord in those that are for real... and when you sing your highest praises to the Lord for the Lord..It shows too!!! Joe looked like he was about to have a running spell {nothing wrong with that } Praise God!!
Thanks for posting! Ya know, I stopped in because I have always enjoyed The Oaks - I was born in '64. It's a shame some feel compelled to judge, but that's not my job. God Bless Y'all.
They are OK but don't put any heart into this song.
I grew up in the 'sticks in West Tennessee an heard MUCH better groups in our little country Baptist church of 50 members! These groups would come (an still do) for FREE; we took up a 'love offering' to help them with expenses.
I don't like it when people chase the dollar when singing Christian music. The Oak Ridge Boys left the Southern Gospel circuit to chase the dollar.
The days behind me are so many and I feel I have very few days ahead of me. In such a case what a courage to know that there is a land where souls of men never die.
@athull08 The thin guy on the right side of the screen. Richard Sterban. Before he joined the Oaks, he sang with The Stamps when they backed up Elvis.
Does anyone know who is playing bass for them here. I think he used to play for Lorrie Morgan. I remember Joe saying that he used to have a better view.
Again my respected colleagues might squinch their eyes and ears at this. I am a man of study, I understand about automaticity but I am not immune from simple joys. This is a great singing toward a great wish.
To me the Oaks can't be beat the way they break it down and sing they are the best. I love them always have since I was a little girl guess good singers will always have special fans.
Wonderful video and I'm with everyone else, great gospel music here without a doubt. Thank you Mark (ramey58) for sharing this with me. It's going into my fav's... Special thanks to Oakswarrior for posting it. :)
This was great & to hear them on their "2009 "a gospel journey,"they've not lost a beat, wow, thank God for these guys being in my generation, what a gift...God bless you & yours..
In the late 60's, I was the Ad & PR Manager for the Downtowner Motor Inns, based in Memphis. My boss dreamed up an idea to sponsor the Oak Ridge Boys on a TV show - and I found a station in Louisiana to produce it. Duane Allen & Bill Golden were in that group - different tenor & bass. It was their first real wide TV exposure, mostly in the South, broadcast at some dreadful times because I was too naive to negotiate better deals. Would have been 30 years ago this year or early next year.
Actually, this is fact because I was there. William Lee Golden returned to the Oaks just after midnight. The actual date was 1/01/1996. The concert started at 10:00 pm on new years eve. After midnight they introduced Golden so he actually rejoined them on New years day.
I have always loved this song, and no one does it better than these guys, Just perfect 4-part harmony, it's good to hear them back to their gospel roots!
Actually, William Lee came back to the group on Dec. 31, 1997, so if this was a November appearance, it would have to have been Nov. '97. Steve Sanders sang baritone from 1987 until November '97, and Dee Allen and Paul Martin covered the parts in Nov. & Dec., until William Lee did his first show re-joined on New Year's Eve '98.
GOD in mercy sent His Son To a world by sin undone; Jesus Christ was crucified --- 'Twas for sinners Jesus died. Oh! the glory of the grace, Shining in the Saviour's face, Telling sinners from above, "God is Light" and "God is Love." All who in His name believe, Everlasting life receive; Lord of all is Jesus now; Every knee to Him must bow.
no they're not here yet read JUDE they left their place of habitation & are being held in chains, but when satan is kicked outta heaven Rev.12:6,7 they'll be with him...
Again, "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?" (1Cor 11:14)
As for the comments about my dad, I sent you a message with my name and address. I would almost pay you to stop by. Judging by your profile, you seem to do a little travelling, so its not too far fetched is it? But then again, you're probably part of one of those sorry so-called "christian" quartets - never in church, change just to suit the crowd etc. nah, you won't make it.
it says that but,it means because the fallen angels are coming back,to seduce women,if a man has long hair it would be perverted, when them and satan get here, before the REAL CHRIST
That is conjecture. "For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels." (1Co 11:10) That's probably the verse your referring to or you might just be reading scofield's notes? Besides, do you think the fallen angels aren't here already?
Enough with the overblown stereotype about the South being purely Christian. We have plenty of unwashed, unsaved folks here - and we always have.
If your dad is so screwed up that he worries about other men's hair-dos...have you considered that he might be gay?
There was an era when MOUNTAIN MEN, who did not live in nice suburban towns and did not own scissors or have barber shops, had no way to cut their hair - and couldn't care less. There are bigger things in life. Like finding food.
This is one of my favorites too! They did this one live in Branson here recently and just made my night. They sing Gospel at all their shows, but had never done this one. It was great!
There will never be another group like the Oaks. They lost something when the lost Willaim Lee for several years. They weren't bad with Steve Sanders, but these 4 are just magic!
