got 1 shot to see im in NYC... little club on W21st... no where to park... put my van on the sidewalk... got a 167 dollar ticket... worth every mfn penny... God bless Rory... and thx...
After Woodstock, a magazine journo asked Jimi "what is it like to be the best guitarist on the planet ? " Jimi said "Ahh , you best ask Rory Gallagher" .. True Story ..
Rory was the greatest power guitar player ever! I would say that of the 484, 629 views, a LOT of them are me, especially when I need inspiration. As for the 13 dislikes..... PUSSIES!!!!!!
Maybe if there was a guitar player hall of fame but he'll never make it to the rock and roll hall because he didn't write, or, at least, his writing was very secondary to his writing.
I saw Rory's first US performance, back in the early 70's at the Academy of Music, NYC. He played Messin w/the Kid - it left a mark on me that has never gone away ...
@hdsrvc i saw him when he was with Taste in 1971. When da gig was over he came over and sat on da edge of da stage and asked me and me friend what we thought of the show. i couldnt even answer the man. ah memories.
i saw rory open for rush on the signals tour (I think) and he kicked their ass, even though the crowd chanted " we want rush" during the whole set. under-rareted guitarist.
@steira21 He's playing the same Strat he always played, at least since I became a fan in 1970. I'm not sure, but I don't think Fender put out the SRV Strat until after Rory passed on. I saw Rory live on numerous occasions in the 70's and 80's and never saw him play another (different) electric guitar. I saw him play an acoustic Martin and an electric sitar, but that's it.
@cs868 Regarding his well-used early 60s Stratocaster, the first in Ireland I once heard, the only other guitar I saw him play or be pictured with, aside from an acoustic or mandolin, was a Telecaster he used for slide guitar work. I saw him at the Dagenham Roundhouse C.1971. His beat-up old Vox AC30 amp was on a chair next to him with a PA mic in front of it. A dazzling guitarist, he also played alto sax with his earlier band Taste, on their classic 'On the Boards' album, one of his best works.
@TheSnedderingYunk Thanks for the reply. Man, Rory was so pure - guitar, cable amp. That's it. I have the 'On The Boards' album on vinyl. That was my first experience with Rory's music. 'Morning Sun' , 'See Here'. He did play some nice sax on that record and I don't think he recorded any sax again after that. He let his guitar playing do the talking.
@aloun22 You are French, I am Scottish. We have an auld Alliance :) :) Ne t'inquiete pas :) (I remember this from school). Salut/chinchin :) :) Raising a beer to salute you and Rory :)
Rory was as talented and musically blessed as Frank Zappa, BB, EC, Jeff Beck, Gary Moore...why compare, just enjoy the difference and be glad they don't sound alike!!! Rory needs to be in the H.O.F. or it is no such thing!! No Wonder it is in Sleasland OH
Im gonna get hated for this, but he lost the bluesy feel that the original has. And although he's a talented player and I like listening to him, he's not nearly as good as SRV.
@jeffsdolphin . yeah well stevies voice is annoying, his songs are boring, and he came out way later. i just never liked em and im a blues lover .. steves rhythm section was tight i must say
@Dead4everYoung thats alright dude ....my roomate was rory city.....i fucking understand .........he let me learn about your bro...........Rory ...rory rory ......BULLFROG BLUES

LOL your lucky to have such an awesome friend ! he was just looking out in your best interest bro! so you wouldnt ever end up looking foolish in an online discussion about srv being more badass than rory?! ppfffff lol just kiddin . but not really lol ur alright man , no matter what they say about you lol
@Dead4everYoung i also think your a.o.k.---but stevie vaughn was more proffficient than rory but RORY had more,happy.pappy........Do ypu like hurdy gurdy man-donovan just curious
@jeffsdolphin .naw, season of the witch is cool. when sick bands cover it . but that isnt your style , right next to srv u probly got some more 'real proffficient' blues slingers like johhny lang , or oohh i know! JOHN MAYER ! am i right?
@Rattenhoofd matter of opinion.you are just as much entitled to your favourites as we are.rory being the humble gent he was,im sure would not take offence but its only natural that us fans would try to defend him
@stevevaifan1 Sorry! Matter of opinion, not fact! Very different tones, agreed, and in almost every sense I prefer SRV's tone(!), but he was just a lame derivative of Albert King & Hendrix. Not a note of originality. Walter Trout, for example, is a much better guitarist, so is Snowy White, & THE most under rated of the lot is Bernie Marsden. Not only is his playing & tone out of this world, he has a GREAT voice, too! Check out Blues & Greens to see what I mean
If anyone deserves to be in the rock hall it is Rory from 1971-1974 he was voted best guitarist ahead of them all in melody maker in london. all of the bands that came out of ireland owe it all to him !No one was more true to his craft that Rory!
Never better, furious on stage, always played like it might be his final performance, just ON FIRE ! God knows how that Strat survived the beating, but I bet it LOVED being in Rory's gifted hands !
i saw him 20-30 times..and every performance was packed with great soulful blues and high energy tuneful rock with blistering and crafted guitar solos.
He was a genius. This isnt his best version....check out "in europe" of course...and rorys in concert on the bbc around 1971...that for me is one of the greatest tracks of all time .
I saw Rory in San Antonio in the fall of 1973 and he was amazing. He opened for Rod Steward who was also pretty good but what a difference. Rory came out playing raw blues and Rod came out in a ballerina tootoo.
my father saw him severall times in lyon (france), he told me once rory was in a pub (crowded) discussing with people and that he had payed the drinks for everybody
saw rory twice in newcastle, crying shame why so many great artists have to kill themselves to be remembered so well.guess its the pressure they cant handle.been to his local in cork a few times, thats now closed!!say lavie!!
Had the great fortune of seeing Mr. Gallagher at the Roxy in Hollywood. True artist fantastic guitarist. and a appreciative performer who gave his all at the show. A true inspiration.
I only got to see Rory once, front row small venue, opened for Kansas. The six of us that went together were the only Gallagher fans in attendence...at the beginning. After one and half tunes the crowd was on its feet and Rory blew the house down. Kansas didnt play, technical problem. Yea right.
please don't go to ipetition in the description. I think that Rory is one of the best kept secrets in music, he never did it for the fame but for the music. Rory should be kept for those who love music and are willing to look a little deeper for the real musicians unlike all the modern computer pop shit fakes.
i absolutely agree. although i think he deserves it more than anyone, its not something he really cared about. he loved playing his music and thats it.

@stonedpimpdaddy Yes Rory was the most talented and unassuming player I have seen. Saw him many times live he was 'the man' thanks so much for your support, cheers Les in Scotland
to be honest i dont think rory would give a rats ass if he was in the hall of fame or not, he wasnt interested in all that fame/commercial side of things, he just liked playing live and he was awsome simple as.......
Gee, I wonder if Yngwie Malmsteen didn't cop a thing or twelve from Rory Gallagher? Rory was the real Johnny B. Goode. My how that little country boy could play.
Hearing version of that song from LP "Live in Europe" (1972) I become addicted to his guitar and voice ... it will never stoped, no matter of his or my death.
Saw him in Birmingham 1973.... the best atmosphere at a concert I have ever been to..Brilliant.

Wow, great version of "messing with the kid", Gallagher´s Voice is very nice to, but the Keayboarder (like my opinion) is very bad.
