@gjc8207 not really sad at all. but it dates me. I remember every song and sound that game makes. I begged my parents for weeks to get this game for me.
@Johanproducties That dude annoys me. IMO he is totally biased against vintage/classic & retro gaming in general. It's like his age prevents him from.....I can't explain it.....I grew up with Atari 2600 @ a time when there was little else to play. It was amazing, back then. I can see a vintage game in THAT light, without trying to compare it to a freak'n Wii. It doesn't see that he also can. Typical of media, a person who is least educated + biased & annoying, is most popular. Screw him.
I remember being a kid and being gaga over GI Joe. My brother got this game from his friend and i had to play it. My brother told me it was hard. When I played it, i got my ass kicked at it.
Oh man, I lovedlovedloved this game as a kid. I was DEVASTATED when it started to not work right, and as far as I could get was like.. playing one of Clutch's levels before it would crash and not work. Sad, sad days but man this video is so nostalgic!
@gluband VICE is IMO, the best C64 emulator there is. You should get the newest version of VICE. ver 2.1 to 2.3. It works so good! Plays 99.99% of C64 games. I can send links to your inbox if you want? (use the official VICE website for downloads) I also know about great websites that have nearly every C64 game available for download. Either individually, or ALL of them in a single zipped file. Let me know if you want the links.
wow layering, and look at the robot when he goes behind the car, it even looks like he is seenditorted throught the glass windows of the car... This was in when? 1984? Wow, C-64 was really capable of really advanced game concepts.
man I remember playing this on my Comm 64 as a kid.. The music has stuck with me until this day. Still remember the sound of winning a battle, or if you lost.
This game had no fucking ending, u would put them behind bar only to have them free again. The flpping of disks, ahhhhhhhhhhhh i could go on.. great memories though.
I used to play this game for hours. I would get so mad cause I'd beat a bunch of the Cobra members and then they'd end up free again a few rounds later. Just hearing the music is a huge nostalgia rush.
Younger people may not appreciate how special this game was for us, how amazing it was to actually play characters from a beloved tv cartoon! That was extremely rare back in the early 80's.
Also, the game itself was top quality, with both 1-on-1 shooting (like here) and vehicle action.
It was very sophisticated by the standards of the time.
As a kid, my dad had to buy 3 copies of this game in total. Like all Epyx games, the copy protection scheme would ruin the disk and make it unplayable after a certain amount of time. I'd like to see publishers try to get away with that today.
Used to play this one for hours as a kid - pretty awesome how it never ended, me and my brother used to tell our Dad we'd stop playing once the round was over. Four hours later Dad would realize what was going on and kick us off.
I was just playing this game a few minutes ago on VICE emulator. I had this as a kid for my C64. Airborne Ranger was a sweet game too, & also Arnie 1 & 2. The Archon series are among the best games of all time. Spy vs Spy was cool too, and my favorite C64 RGP game, Questron, for sure.
Contrary to popular believe, this game does have an ending. It involves throwing your C64 across the room and discovering porn magazines for the first time.
It's amazing how the songs in these games just stays in your memory permanently. I haven't played this game since probably around 1987, but I could still hum the songs through memory upon hearing them again. This was one of my favorite C64 games. On the board this vid is on, a friend and I spent countless hours trying to blow up the white bot. We just kept shooting and shooting it till it turned bright red and moved at light speed. We thought it might blow up. It doesn't.
Funny that you mention the song staying in your head. I was just in the shower and suddently started humming the Cobra song that's playing when you select a character in this game. I thought, "I wonder if I can find that song on YouTube." Sure enough, here it is! Wow... just wow.
Kids today complain when it takes ten seconds to load something... The C64 was sooooo slow. A lot of games you spent a lot more time waiting than actually playing.
This game was such a big part of my childhood in the 80's. There have been so many c=64 games that have been remade. This game should get the same treatmeant.
seriously was there no ending if you beat up all of cobra? never gotten far enough to know that... that robot was so scary when you were like 8 years old.
This Game kicked so much ass it wasn't even funny...I don't think they made an ending for it though. Way before it's time, with elements of cover shooting.
This was my favorite game as a kid! I played it until the disk overheated and broke, and then bought another copy. I loved playing against Zartan, because you never knew which Joe he would impersonate.
It IS unbeatable; originally it wasn't, but a boss at the company thought it was a better idea to make an 'interactive toy' instead of a game... Which meant basically the same thing except he made the designers remove the ending and make it loop infinitely. Great idea...
Anyway, I loved GI Joes and I loved this game because it was the first time I actually got to see these characters actually SHOOTING each other as opposed to just SHOOTING AT each other (anyone remember the cartoon?)
game looks fuckin horrible..
