  • Who actually likes these for reasons other than being impressed just because they're new (not that new now either)? Slightly faster journeys don't make up for the cramped, unpleasant interiors. The only way they seem better is because the old stuff was starting to get a little worn. New like-for-like replacements would've been far better. I suppose people don't want anything other than a bit quicker and more frequent and don't care about the journey itself being more unpleasant. Sad.

  • The Pendolino's maximum overall speed (with no restrictions) is 140mph. Anyone who thinks these are the best trains on the UK network has obviously never been on a Class 225 HST.

  • And you obviously weren't paying attention to what you were posting. There is no Class 225, the HSTs were classes 252, 253 and 254 and are known as 125s. The 225 sets are Class 91 powered Mark 4 sets running out of King's Cross on the ECML.

  • And if you think the IC 225 (Class 91) is the best then you obviously haven't been on an APT. Also, 390 doesn't stop at Crewe anymore:

  • Ive only been on a Class 390 Virgin Pendolino once, back in 2004 from Watford Junction to Birmingham New Street, took about an hour, great trains both on the exterior and interior and they are very comfortable! :)

  • these trains have similar performance to the amtrak acela - but due to problems fitting the cab signalling system on the west coast main line are limited to 125 mph - otherwise they are capable of 140-150 mph
