i am collecting bottlecaps since i played fallout. Some day those bottlecaps will become the currency and the paper money will only be useful for wiping ass.
Well done man. Some day those copper coins, silver and gold coins, will become the currency and the paper money will only be useful for wiping ass. Impressive collection. I just started recently and have a few pounds.
So many people are hoarding pennies.. When we can melt them down the price of copper is going to drop due too so many people turning in there hoarded copper.
wow, there seem to be a lot of haters here. who wouldn't want 2 to 3 times there investment? it's a lot more than people are getting back in the stock market these days.
Lolz !!! You're more into copper pennies than I am ! Nice Collection. I also like to collect cleaned copper wire, pipes etc., For anyone out there that's just getting started: Pre 1997 Canadian pennies are 98% copper, more valuable than the pre 1982 US.
@75tm400 Check coinflation . com if you haven't already, because only the pre-80 Canadian pennies are worth more than the pre-82 US ones. Canadian ones had a higher purity but weighed less, and it varied by year.
@belowthepovertyline They may weigh a little less than the pre1982 US, but the pre1997 Canadian are a higher quality penny with more copper content. Just like the scrap yard has different prices for different grades of metals.
I went to pay my car insurance & they guy who owns my insurance agency knows all about this stuff. I may ask him if I can pay my car insurance next time in presorted pre oct. 1982 real copper pennies. Why would I do that? Because they only cost me about 1/3 of what they are really worth, which means I can get 2/3rd of my car insurance for the price of looking through some pennies while listening to music or watching some boring old tv.
$600 dollars in face value pennies is currently worth $1500 in copper melt value and has been worth as high as $1800 this year before copper commodity prices corrected. Why would you call someone an idiot for buying something for 1 unit when it is worth between 2.5 - 3 units of value?? I would call him smart.
@vVHAVICVv S Pennies were minted in San Francisco a long time ago. The D was made in Delaware I believe and the ones with nothing I think are from Philadelphia.
@jimbox114 Oh I see. Thank you for the information. And is there like a difference between the 3 Like does S have more value than D or something or is it just where they are from?
@meancoyote ...yeah, post 1982 are zinc coated with a bit of copper for the "look" of copper, but pre-1981 (and some '82 from what i gather) are about 90% copper.
The penny army has enslaved you! You will never see the light of outdoors again, if not just for the time of a penny run.

Reason for collecting them is more likely because each one is worth more than a penny in scrap - right?
