The only reason because Numidia won "without fight from the start", was the twice longer settlement of troops in battlefield. If your opponent has not quantity or quality in light troops to flank you, a shorter line-up formation it's almost deliver your head's men to the rival

He could of won if he hadn't brought Sacred Bands. To win against Numidia all you really need is Poeni Infantry, considering their best infantry unit is Numidian Legionary and even it kind of blows..

@imwb In the campaign i'd say any of the Roman factions is the best, since you automatically have 3 powerful allies for 3/4 of the campaign, powerful units and at least one city safe from attack in Italy

I think Numidia is usually underestimated. Their Camel Riders are just epic and can easily destroy weaker cavalry units and take on harder cavalry units. Numidia has elephants and decent archers. The campaign is said to be challenging but if you take Carthage really quickly, youll be super rich, then take Thapsus and reinforce your armies. Try not to anger the Romans and, from the start of the game, focus on alliance with Egypt and a strong economy.

i love numida why? well their peltasts are special cuz they are effective aganist chariots once i did a numidia and eygpt online. he spamed 5 chariots and then i spam like 10 peltasts xD lost 2 units in the process

regarding your opinion on the copy legionnaires (not sure if i spelled it right) i believe that all the copy legions Except for the silver sheilds are worse. i think that the Silver Sheild legions are actually on par with there roman counterparts, although probally less disciplined than the romans.

Historically speaking, archers were overrated. Peltasts were more effective. You could argue that the British longbowmen in the late medival period were decent, but they rarely penetrated plate armor. The British used the longbows for rendering the enemies cavalry to become horseless.

Actually, the medieval longbow was best known for piercing plate armor. Study the 100 years war. In the most famous battles (Crecy, and especially Agincourt), french infantry (who were heavily armored) didn't even get close to the English lines because of the power of the longbow.

Myth. I have studied. I've seen it against quality plate. You would be lucky to pierce it, or the arrow would be released from a downward angle, increasing the velocity. Still, I bet it hurt and damaged the armor badly. The longbow is not as powerful as most people think, and certainly not as powerful when it's shown in sub par hollywood-pictures. It was most effective against cavalry, killing the mounts.

Ironically, especially the battle of Agincourt proves 'PKtheFirst' right. The medieval longbow was not able to penetrate the newly developed steel armor of the french knights. The French were mainly undone by the muddy and narrow terrain. Btw, anybody interested in this, search for "Battle of Agincourt" here on Youtube and watch the "Battlefield Detectives" - very intersting series indeed.

yo Prince, you should have switched to fire missiles once you had him surrounded like that. Lowers morale and makes it easier for you to route him.

People who say that archers aren't that effective in low money battles obviously don't watch that many of your battles either. You've proven that they are super effective every time you've shown one of your Scythia or Parthia battles.

The ending kinda reminded me of Cannae, you know, except with Sacred Bands instead of Legionnaires. Hannibal would have been furious at his subordinate.

Archers are way overpowered in M2TW the crossbows and elite archer units can tear apparte anybody add in muskets and you get a sloughter

@killerclown789 I would disagree, shields/ bucklers would block arrows relatively easily, the helmets stopped arrows. Even their armor could block some arrows if they were coming from farther away.

An arrow would penetrate armour if it hit it directly, but if it just skimmed, it wouldn't penetrate obviously.

I don't know if this is realistic, but in the Alexander movie, the Persain arrows went right through the phalanx men's armour, so...yeah.

Archers are surprisingly effective in general. You should see the early battles against the Moors in my M2TW Spanish campaign - 2 units of green Peasant Archers won me a battle against an archer and spear-heavy army of about 1500 Moors, with a terrain advantage and some militia spears to keep the Moors off the archers. 250+ kills per unit.

The new Total War games is very hard to maneuver

I used to beat armies twice my size with just cavalry and a few missiles

Mainly cause of lure and destroy with groups of 2 cavalry

You should know what I mean if you know how to micro-manage cavalry attacks

Cathrage.. I really think cathrage is nothing without elephants

I don't think your opponent was so smart, for not moving his hoplites and not harassing missile units sooner or expanding his cavalry

Honestly, factions aren't really balanced, cost effectively they are

I believe Cathrage is the strongest cause of their amazing war elephants

Although in this vid the Cathrage chose for a defensive group

War elephants are hugely strong

They are both strong, fast and have range attack

They are like the over powered unit

But since they are expensive, you still have to use them carefully cause even losing 1 group of elephant is vital

yea, i gotta say i love missle units they are one of the major back bones for my army. While under campaign the AI was rushing my guys i killed off like 500 of them and routed 2 of his horse units before they got to me.

I like to play defensively with pikes

and I really had no choice, when you start with a wrong army you are forced to sumbit yourself to the enemy...

What could I do? Run to he´s archers and get pwed by his cav superior then mine? I did what you call noob circle (square) but I reduced his arrows as max as I could...

If it was the normal circle he´d kill me by the back. I had no choice since the start guys, and I have the game for 1 moth btw.

And admit the general last to fall was cool =)
