It's not a glitch. It's just that the game is coded in such a way that you die if you hit a surface too fast. Maybe the company didn't think that the people might be hitting the ceiling too fast, but it's not a glitch. The same method could be used to die from hitting the wall, but the ninja can't run fast enough to get to the same speed that you get to by falling.
