MY QUESTION IS WHICH ONE IS BETTER? THIS EV ELX118P SUBWOOFER OR THE QSC KW181 POWERED SUBWOOFER BEING ONE IS 700 WTS AND THE OTHER 1000 WTS? JUST WANT TO KNOW YOUR OPINION BEING THAT YOUVE USED BOTH
@JoabVillescas12 The correct answer is...neither is better. Depends on who you ask, what your application is, etc. Feel free to talk or chat with us directly during business hours and we can go over it all in depth.
The 134db peak is calculated, NOT real world spl output. In the real world, with music you won't get anymore than about 125dbC maximum at clipping point.
@ernie Yes, only one. We wish there were 2 also, but at that price point, you could buy 2 ELX118P subs for almost the same amount of money as the competition.
wow. thanks for this, Ive been wanting to know how it stacks up with the jbl/qsc subs. I have a pair of FBT himaxx 40a speakers and am wanting to get these subs but was also wanting to upgrade the FBT's to JBL 635 in to get a clearer/more open vocal sound with the mid range drvers. I am in a 5 piece band. Do you think these subs would work well for this if I were to also use a crossover to maybe bump the crossover frequency down a bit from 100HZ or are these subs best used with the Live x tops?
@MySoundboy -- Proper gain structure: run pink noise thru the system starting with the source. At ea. unit in the signal chain, run to clipping then back off a bit. At the mixer, faders all the way up , set gains to 0db during this process. The powered speakers are the last item in the chain, so set them last. Now u have plenty of headroom. (This isn't the only "right" method. Other methods exist - look for a paper at Shure's site on this)
hey guys those boxes are awsome but my problem is where is or what is the correct setting for the ev gains cause there is no 0db marker on the control so where do u set it for optimun performance

this is true.. alot of different brands don't rate their stuff the same like every other brand... this is why some are better then others!

@MySoundboy There is a dB level knob right on the back. Best thing to do is start with the "0" position (or 12:00, unity, etc) and adjust from there.

@xkj208 Sorry, U.S. shipping addresses only. No Authorized EV dealers in the U.S. are allowed to ship outside the country.

It needs an external crossover right?
jzaga053 6 months ago
@jzaga053 Not necessarily. A lot of DJ's will just run a full range signal into their subs and let the frequencies naturally roll off on their own.
