  • Any recent updates on this crack??

Personally i would be a bit concerned.....It almost goes all the way around the chainstay.

  • have the same frame and I had to return it within 3 months of purchase because the front derailleur hanger came loose. I noticed this at first when cleaning the bike because the paint around the bracket cracked, then as it loosened I was able to wiggle the mount and then shifting performance degraded and eventually I was unable to shift from big to small ring. It is due to a manufacturing problem with the rivets. They replaced the frame about a year ago, but now it is happening again.

  • no worries !!. I got same problem. This is PAINT cracked.

  • I just randomly came across this video. I actually have the exact same frame as you. I bought mine from Competitive Cyclist also. I recently just swapped all my parts over to another BMC frame (Pro machine) but I noticed that it had a crack in the EXACT same place that you do. Were CC willing to warranty it or anything? I want to re-sell it, but I don't know if anyone would want to buy it looking like that.

  • Mfg. never got back to me, although the reseller in the US did (Competitive Cyclist). They did some research and suggested that it was the paint that had cracked, and not the underlying structure. Certainly looks suspicious though. I'm keeping my eye on the crack just in case it "widens", which would suggest its more then a paint problem. Some posts on the web support the reseller's claim that BMC has had a few cracked pain issues with their frames at the bottom bracket/chainstays.

  • So... what happened? Did you get in touch with the seller or manufacturer?

  • @ffiaux

CC got back to me and indicated it was a "paint" crack, and not a structural issue. Although I like a nice unblemished frame, reality is simply that paint is vulnerable to all sorts of cracks and scrapes. I've bought a lot of used frames off ebay over the years and I always assume the discount I'm getting on a used frame takes into account the imperfect nature of the paint job along with some dings and scrapes here and there. It's all part of the used frame deal.
