  • I was fortunate to be there, what a fantastic show! The theme was the RAF and the Battle of Britain. There was a Spitfire suspended above the arena at one end, with searchlights on it. St Paul's Cathedral at the other end. The reenactment of the Battle was very well done...bombs, fire, flak and smoke....as realistic as you can get in an arena. To be revived at Earl's Court 2 to 4 December 2011

  • The glory days of RAF Music Services. How I hated the Royal Torment at the time.. all those hours of rehearsals. So proud to have been a part of it now and see the faces of so many friends some of which have sadly long since departed. Fantastic to see Terry McCarthy at his very best. Brilliant Drum Major. RIP Terry

  • My father was Director of Music for the RAF at this time. I believe he retired shortly after the Royal Tournament that year.

It still brings a chill down my spine when I watch these old videos.

  • I remember being at the Royal Tournament that year and only wish that we could still have an annual Royal Tournament. However our governement decided to scrap it, all to our loss. Saw the Central Band last night and they still provide the same enjoyment factors

  • @Brindleleroy Luckily it is on again this year for two nights only at earls court! not sure of the dates though :)

  • I saw this, summer of 1983, Earl's Court... the theme was "Battle of Britain". For a 16 year-old American it was pretty cool.

  • Have you got the II Sqn RAF Regt parts of the 1983 tournament?

  • those titles do really fit well with the music so you must be right

  • Shamus124, the tuns player were:

    Whose your lady friend

    Kiss me goodnight Sergeant Major

There will always be an England

    QuarterMasters Store

    Roll Out the barrel

I imagine some of these tunes will possibly have more elaborate/formal titles but thats what we called them.

  • cheers

  • AND DIFFERENT WORDS HO HO!!!

  • what are they playing?

  • If Flt/Sgt Brown is in this band email me.

  • As an ex Apprentice Band member(Hereford 66) all I can say is well done, a pleasure to watch and listen to.

I can tell how much practice was done, as I have done the same my self.

    A credit to the RAF.
