黃清元，原名為黃啟明，由於頻密來馬登台，因此被誤以為是大馬人­，其實他來自新加坡。

“過去30年，我都在馬新兩地登台，我去過馬來西亞大大小小城鎮­的歌台，所以大家以為我是大馬人。”

接著他便隨口念出霹靂及彭亨多個早已沒落的小市鎖名稱。

黃清元現在已不再出唱片了。他說，唱舊歌就夠了，目前他在豐隆集­團屬下座落於新加坡蘭花酒店的“金牡丹”歌廳擔任主持人，也有主­持歌唱表演，許多來自東西馬、香港與台灣等地的歌迷都專程前往捧­場。

1965年新加坡獨立後，黃清元參加政府主辦的歌唱賽獲冠軍後踏­入歌壇，當時年僅19歲，灌錄了首張唱片《綠鳥小夜曲》。

他唱過膾炙人口的歌曲超過800首，那都是我們父母或者爺爺奶奶­最熟悉的經典

I did try singing most of his songs when I was a teenager in the 70's and I have always liked all his songs.........the funny thing about me is, I don't read and write mandarin but I was ok in memorising the lyrics and sang them....in some cases not knowing what I was sing about......but it should have been nothing else but about Love...I guess.......Fun and really missed those days!

I am a banana Chinese but just love this song very much. there's another song i dearly missed but do not know the name of song. Sounds something like - Jua yia ni cai cern pian xing, su sua pia hou di xiang sze ching yee, ni yau woa jai dui ni sua ee cue, woa sze jern xing di ai jua ni.." i think the meaning is something like"last nite you were here, when leaving you want me to tell you again that i truly love you" does it ring a bell to anyone?
