  • You, sir. Need to go back to beginning band.

  • i was trying to practice when my dad told me i was going to have to stop soon because it was an obnoxious noise. :*(

  • this is so funny..........

  • 1-all the way in

2-about an inch of the inner slide showing

    3-stay slightly below the bell

it's hard to tell what else he fucked up

  • Expert village? .....more like village idiot to me

  • The second he talked about one being out I stopped it.

  • 1- all the way in

3rd- a little below the bell (or on your side.)

  • xfleegzx first position is not all the way

  • @treefrog191 Yes. It is. :P

  • @VisserZer0 Lol. Never mind. I just played a bit and payed attention to my hands and I don't even go all the way in. Out just a wee nit. But not like this guy. >.<

  • @treefrog191 yes it is

  • @ 1:39 lol trumpet valve is stuck down :P

  • Will one legitimate trombonist please make an expertvillage video?!?!?! PLEASE!!!

  • LOL, ive been playing for two days and i already know the slide positions better than this guy. ahahaha.

  • Hey dumb ass you dont know your trombone slides I am in sixth grade and I bet I can play trombone better than you. Theyre called triggers retard. First is all the way in. dumb ass

  • This guy obviously doesn't know his slides....

  • that little “bump” at the end of the inner slide is called a stocking.

  • This guy always makes me laugh. What is the deal with the trumpet valve?

  • This guy always makes me laugh.

  • i have an idea i'm learning trombone i already played baritone how bout they replace his "expert advice" with mine

  • 3rd isn't always right at the bell and niether is 4th. Genius. You can play f sharp in 3rd but it's not where this "expert" has it. It's more towards like a 2.75. All I'm saying is is that you can't and shouldn't always asscociate 3rd and 4th in those positions he talked about.

  • This guy is not an expert....

  • Comment removed

  • first position is NOT that far out unless you are veryyyyy sharp in which you should pull out. and first position isnt 2cm away from second either.. if your going to put it on youtube for the world to see, be accurate

  • something about this seems false

  • dam u expert village

  • how the hell is this guy an EXPERT from EXPERT village?

  • you ar dumb

  • lol when he pules up his trumpet one valve is stuck you dumb ass

  • Every position is different. If you are playing with an ensemble for example, you may have the 3rd, 5th, 7th, etc of a chord, each position should be adjusted to make the chord in tune. Each position is an approximation, and should be used as a reference. In addition, a good trombone player will constantly and immediately adjust their slide positions to fit with other ensemble players who are always out of tune.

  • i can barely reach to 6th position!

  • u suck 1st is all the way in and 4th is in more in wow expert village probably just played u too say some random crap u dont even know about!!!

  • @REXY309 first position is never all the way in. it will always be sharp. the slide should be about a quarter to half inch out. but yes, they need a better teacher.

  • Videos and teaching like this is the reason why trombone teachers have to correct a lot of playing habits and issues. Teach by rote and let the student find the pitch and position. Positions vary as per the horn, partial played, and chord tone in relation to the piece played. Learn to listen and you won't need to worry about where a slide position "should" be.

  • 1 is all the way in

  • I learned a lot by this video. Thank you so very kindly. God bless you!

  • well, if ur on the F partial, then you kick out the slide just a tad

  • i was always taught that 7th position is approx one inch below the ''lip'' on the inner slide. that's where i always played it and it sounded o.k.

  • Heres a tip! Go figure out the dam positions! To dam Flat

  • no theres only seven bowser808

  • HAHA U FAIL THIS IS NOT THE POSITIONS

  • you probably learned 6 positions, but as you get better you will learn that you can use 7 positions which is what this guy is teaching, he is not wrong.

  • Yes i know there is seven but he goes to far out starting with the 2nd position and a little to far for 5 - 6 - and 7th

  • 1st position-all the way in

2nd posistion- an inch away rom 1st

    3rd position-is where you said 2nd is

    5th is closer to 6th than 4th

  • okay i plaY THE TROMBONE N THOSE ARE THE NOTES

  • Yeah this guy in the vid fails

  • 1st position is all the way in dumbass.

  • Actually, other than the common first note Bb, 1st position is often sharp and played a very little out or lipped, either way a bad example in general.

  • I agree but he showed second...

  • And second position is further in than he showed also. If you play it there the note will be a little flat.

  • Well, we can all agree this guy fails. lmao

  • @xFLeeGZx first position is never all the way in. you will always be sharp.

  • @xFLeeGZx That actually depends on a lot of things. First position is a basic concept yes. But once you get more experianced, F is a slight long first position. Bb is all the way in. D is like a millimeter out. As you play higher notes, 1st position is almost 2nd sharp position.

  • @colinpownz ok but look at where he puts 1. he puts it like all the way out to like a slightly sharp second position. no where near first

  • @jubba2point0 Oh... didn't see that. Good point :)

  • @colinpownz lol

  • @xFLeeGZx Exactly this guy dosent know shit smh

  • @xFLeeGZx unless youre playing F in which case the slide is a tiny tiny bit out

  • @xFLeeGZx lol nice

  • @xFLeeGZx I play trumpet and even I know that.

  • @xFLeeGZx it takes a dumbass to know one

  • theres 9 combos for trumpet not 7

  • lol they asked me why i didnt get a tuba ahd i said (i got more lenght than gurth)

  • yeah, sometimes first position can be pulled out a tiiiiny bit, but with this guy you can actually see the top of the slide!

  • D ta D..

  • Soprano trombone is not a bass trumpet. A soprano trombone is the same register as the trumpet.

  • he was meaning that as the history of the evolution of brass instruments

  • Doesn't matter what he meant. What he said is what some less educated person who is learning the music is going to learn. This guy should stop making these videos.

  • okay i admit some of the stuff this guy says is pretty weird but, this is a pretty good video for the positions after that, you just gotta stop paying attention.

  • Wow hilarious

    At 0:21

"There are 7 slide positions on the trombone. One..." He pulls the slide out for "first position". LMAO...

Btw you seriously ought to oil your slide I can hear it scraping and I have my headphones at lowest volume

  • he is not completely correct, However, first position is not all the way in first its out a tad, not that much, but out nonetheless

  • Then adjust your tuning slide so it IS all the way in - at least for 2nd, 3rd & 4th partials (notes Bb, F & Bb). Higher partials may require some slide adjustment e.g. all 6th partial notes should be played long (F in 1st postion).

BTW, this ExpertVillage 'expert' is anything but!

  • Well thats not what my instructor told me, However it can differ in horns, i know my blessings' first position is sharp and all my sixth partial notes must be pulled out a bit.

  • this is funny

ive read almost all of these comments and ppl say not to listen to this guy but it seems the only thing ppl are bitchin about is that this guy's first position is off and that there's not a bump on the end of the inner slide but other than that this pretty good info

and seriously if everyone's is ticked at this guy, then someone should post their own

  • i agree with everyone about his first and olny that i agree with him 100% with everything else also thank you hydread for your information

  • your welcome, it's pretty easy info to understand ppl just dont choose to be right. haha

  • this guy is a dumbass that isnt first position

  • Someone let me know what I should do.

Should I learn trombone ton the internet (perferabley here on You tube) or off the internet

  • i learned off the internet and im already better than the other guy in concert band. i've had mine for two weeks, he's had his for a year.

  • where as in what website and is it free

  • like, on youtube. actually this guy is okay but some of his info is wrong

  • thanks and where else on YouTube can i find good information

  • like on youtube actually take a little info from this guy

  • @hydread yay! thats what i a m hoping to do

  • his first position is too long. Plus, 3rd position is right before the bell, not right on it. And, if you're a deeper, bigger trombone, your positions have to be shorter.

  • if u wanna teach ppl then make sure u know ur right dumbass

  • "Experts" should learn how to play before trying to teach someone else. The first thing I learned was where "first" position was, and he seems to think something else.

  • everyone is saying that this guy is shocking. can someone else post something up so that us trombone beginners can learn?

  • Comment removed

  • truly shocking!... beginners DO NOT listen to this guy!.. 1st position is NOT where he said it was. DO NOT watch any of his videos!

  • actually first position is out about 1/4 of an inch out otherwise whatever note u r playing will b slightly sharp.

  • Comment removed

  • I would explain the harmonics, then how to lower

    them by semitone, etc

He doesn't make much sense at all

  • 1st position is wrong. i knew that, and its my first year playing....

  • The postion 1 is worng U DONT MOVE THE SLIDE FOR 1

  • A your right B wtf is worng

  • ITS Wrong NOT worng! AND + this guy needs to teach it right u dush bag!

  • i play da trombone and ur 1st position is wrong 1st position is wen u dont move dat slide da slide is pose to be all da way at the top

  • ok some of the slide positions r off 7th position is not tht far out no one's arm can reach tht far and also valve trombones are called trigger

  • wow

    what's with that trumpet?

    the first valve is busted?

  • i want to take up trombone. by reading the comments i have learned not to listen to this guy, but how can you tell where the positions are? just like, muscle memory?

  • After Awhile your arms will get used to the positions.

  • This is really dumb. I could really teach a whole lot better than that. 1st position is all of the way in!!!!! This guy is dumb. It is not a bump on the slide either......

  • so, the first and the second positions are in the same place? lol

  • OMG i've been play n 4 a long time and this guy dose NOT kno anything same with the irish dance one EXPERT VILLAGE SUX !!!

  • I don't even play trombone, but even I know where the 1st position is.

  • duh every one knows

  • lmao...wow...dont make anymore videos about things you dont understand...its an insult to those of us who study how to play these fine intruments for years. just stop...

  • okay, haha, i just thought this comment was funny because you called trombones "fine" and your name is killer. and actually this is pretty good info on the positions.

maybe if you want to study these "fine instruments" go to a music historian's site. not youtube. or dont dont go to a video that says trombone playing positions.

  • lol, that was really my friend, and personally about what you said: 1st of all, I don't care what my username is becuase it has nothing to do with anything...and 2nd, i think i can post what I want about videos becuase it is true...

  • Your wrong I found an 8th position put it right to the end of the bump area and play and you have an 8th positionyou can play it in 3rd on a trigger trombone

  • that's not '8th position'. That's trigger flat 3rd.. a bflat. -_-.

  • yea the 1st position he put in 1st

  • He got 1 wrongthe slide is suposed to be at the lock on the trombone..

  • That trumpet had a valve stuck! Clearly a prop!
