This cover is on their greatest hits album, This Station is Non-Operational. I just bought it last month. Great stuff.
I got into ATDI through The Mars Volta. Absolutely hated the screamo/hardcore genre for the most part, but there's just something different about ATDI that I can't put my finger on or analyze. They just kept a high standard for their music. Great melodies, great guitar. Almost all their songs were little masterpieces in their own way. Omar and Cedric have only improved.
I just got my This Station is Non-Operational about a week ago. I can not emphasize how much good substance and music it has. I am not a post hardcore/punk fan either but I really love this album. I am a bigger ATD-I fan but I do accept that their separation was not in vain since TMV is making musical history as we speak. Long live TMV and the ashes of ATD-I.
i hear a different version of this cover in some places, like cedric singing higher. were they both off the same album, or was one like a bonus or something?
The version you heard was the deluxe version of This Station is Non-Operational. If you try to get this song on iTunes, all you can get is the deluxe version which is the version which contains this song with the higher vocals. Same album, just not. Ya dig?
I was honestly skeptical that ANY band cover The Smiths... but damn... this is one of the best covers i have ever heard in general. They not only avoided butchering a great song, but they kind of made it amazing.
I have to say, I really like this cover. Now obviously Cedrics voice isnt the same as Morriseys but that doesnt mean its not good. They bring their own style to song with the distorted guitar and darker bass. A good song in its own right.
I am a massive Smiths fan for years now... They did the song justice obviously it was not as good as the Smiths version but everyone falls short compared to The Smiths anyway.. At The Drive In were a very decent band though in there own right
I didn't like the way Cedrcic's voice sounded at first, but it sort of grows on you... anyways, great choice of song. It doesn't top the original (and I'm sure that wasn't their intention anyways), but it's still really good.
I really wish Cedric would sing some more songs like this. It's kind of a double edged blade though. On one hand you get a astonishing performance of vocal magnificence, but on the other hand you have him delving from what he's doing now, and he really seems to be enjoying everything they do lately. meh, I guess when push comes to shove, He's making very good music right now, and we still have these little artifacts :)
For the record TMV has been my favorite since 2005
Not a terribly great cover...to be honest i prefer the original. Fair play to them though, its an awesome song to choose and it is a rather hard one to do right i imagine.
these guys are not claiming to have a better cover than the smiths. they are merely in love with their music. they have talent, just listen to 'Relationship Of Command'. then say what you want.
The video shows what the band was all about. And the song shows where they came from. Great Great Great job. I like this cover as much as the original (well...maybe a little less)
I think this is a VERY good cover!! It's close enough to the original to capture the mood and emotions of what Morrissey/Marr had in mind. But instead of being merely a carbon copy of a great song, they give this song a wonderful new character. Really great interpretation and highly listenable! Also, a lot of bands that cover the Smiths do kind of a "simplified version" of the Smiths song, especially with more complicated songs like this one. But this cover is different.
This is utterly lovely.

maybe that at the drive in had absolutely nothing to do with what you call screamo/hardcore.

Yeah I was wondering this as well. If you listen to the iTunes version, he sings in a higher voice.

Nobody can do it like Morrissey. Not even cedric

the music is realllllly good actually.. but im not really feeling the singer (the levels, the voice or the style of which he sings it)
hypemike 3 years ago 4
What!!!! To me the singers voice shows sadness, almost as if hes the one that wrote the song. I have no ideal how you dont like his voice.

ugh, that voice :( ...a bit flat (mildly speaking), and the smiths/morrisey mood is not hinted at even a little bit, lol.
placebo could cover it better though as it's more their style. now that, i'd love to hear :)

When Cedric doesn't try to sound like Morrissey, he has one of the most unique and powerful voices in music..
