  • can anyone tell me where about is this place...???

  • @light2lionz It is from the Richard Tucker Gala, held at Avery Fisher Hall, in NYC

  • I just died and went to heaven. Beautiful.

  • Sweet baby Jesus... That A Joyce sang was ABSOLUTELY glorious...

  • My favorite mezzo and my favorite soprano

  • Both women have such full, beautiful voices. It's a pleasure to be able to hear them perform together :)

  • I love the way Damrau goes extremely quiet for "Wie himmlische, nicht irdische..." (from 3:36) before a hushed orchestra.

That really I had never heard, it's a refreshing idea that makes things much more lively.

    Superb.

  • @fedtho That's what's in the score - most sopranos I have heard do the same.

  • Diana Damrau is joining the line of Anneliese Rothenberger, Hilde Güden,

Teresa Stich-Randall, Erika Köth and last but not least : Lucia Popp.

    She is great

  • Who's conducting?

  • @Ostasio Asher Fisch :)

  • Oh wow...that was just spectacular. I've always loved Judith Blegen's Sophie, but Damrau takes it to another place entirely. And DiDonato knows exactly what she's doing with that role...they were both breathtaking.

  • Octavian has cleavage :)

  • these two women= pure perfection. utterly flawless!

  • Orchestra sounds kind of perfunctory, not very magical. Still, Damrau and DiDonato are great - their voices fit so well together. Love DiDonato's true mezzo color, and Damrau's sweet color, amazing pianissimi and blooming high notes. Jealousy! Jealousy!

  • Joyce DiDonato is such a classy lady.

  • When I met Joynce DiDonato in Philly, I gave her a big hug and said "Your Strauss is divine"....

  • Look at Joyce at 6:35 - she says "es ist ein ssss...." almost says "sel'ge augen blick" - but stops cuz the conductor halted so she wouldn't rush ahead - she got confused and rushed ahead just after Damrau came off her high C# that the conductor let her stretch out... she lost track of where she was then said sssss... and then came back in with "sel'ge augenblick" - nobody caught that?

Anyway, Damrau has the most beautiful pianissimi up there of anyone! And DiDonato is a goddess!

  • Could happen to anybody! I saw her tonight and she was AMAZING :D

And I'm looking so forward to seeing Diana in March ^^

  • @rlee1976 The biggest problem is that DiDonato actually drops a word there...it should be "die Sinne möchten mir vergehn," and it seems she doesn't say the möchten. Still a gorgeous performance! :)

  • @MnemosynesCall Yeah, well, nobody's perfect! ;)

  • @rlee1976 Joyce was called to fill in this performance with 24 hours notice, so combine jet lag with the fact that Octavian was a very new role in her rep at the time and I think she was magnificent, as usual!!

  • @suzanneetmoi Good point, darling! :)

  • does anyone know where one can get the full presentation of this? I find all of these videos with Joyce commentating adorable!

  • This is so cool. Thanks for posting!

  • Stupendo!!

  • perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have fallen in love with DiDonato...Great performances by both.

  • wow lovely. they were both brilliant. one of the most touching scenes in all of opera. and the black suit ! haha...loved the commentary on that...fit her perfectly and went lovely with the red! :-)

  • It must be thrilling for mezzos to play pant roles.

  • BRAVO! Flawless performance on the part of both ladies! Absolutely wonderful!

  • OH MY GOD! Diana. What can you say. Just amazing! Unbelievable! She is the greatest.

  • ESTAN SOBERBIAS VAYA GALA!!!

  • Hermoso.....

  • WOOOOOOW!

What a great performance of both! Diana, you are the only Godess of the scene! Who the fu... is Netrebko?

  • Everyday I love DiDonato more! She surprises me in every perfomance! Bravi!

  • The interpretation allows for a bit of leeway with the tempi- remember, both characters are supposed to be very young and all is new and confusing to them. I love the fact that although this is a "park and bark" performance, both ladies "act" their way through it which adds to the charm and makes it so much nicer to watch than some of the older Met gala evenings.

  • Das ist ein Wunder! Danke, Lilith.

  • Bitteschön :)

  • Very beautiful but is Damrau rushing a few of the verses?. She has exquisite high notes and is totally different to the Sophie of a generation- Barbara Bonney but still effective. DiDonato is superb!

  • Imho I don't think she is rushing them, she is perfectly coordinated with DiDo. When exactly do you think she does?

  • This is so beautiful.

  • I have seen this Baden Baden production in Paris (Concert version).... Don't worry, Sophie Koch is reallly a GREAT Octavian!!! She was a revelation for parisian people and had a standing ovation.....

  • Ah, jalousie! Did you talk to Diana? :)

  • I'm really looking forward to the DVD of the Baden-Baden performance of Rosenkavalier with this all-star cast: Diana, Renée Fleming, Sophie Koch (a pity that they couldn't get Elina Garanca to perform Octavian in this production), Jonas Kaufmann, Franz Grundheber... :))

  • Oh, completely agreed. Garanca/DiDonato would have been GREAT...

  • kaufmann too???! dayum I need that dvd now

  • VAYA PAREJA!!!!!

  • Beautiful. And the color of Diana's dress is stunning.

  • 雷好!謝!

  • When was the original date for this performance? I caught it last night and was very impressed.

  • 2007 Tucker Gala

  • she is beautiful as always, and so is Joyce!

My two fav singers ever :D

  • Noooooo I was not the first commenting....................
