  • @dRinorGashi google vobsub, when installing, there will be an option to install for VirtualDub. Also make sure you have the x86 and not the x64 version of VirtualDub.

Or actually, there IS a VSfilter in Aegisub dir, if you search it.

  • Helps a lot!!!!!! Thanks a lot, finally can finish my assignment!!!!!!

  • Couldn't help laughing at .ass, I feel so immature.

  • This video was quite helpful, thanks.

  • sorry..seem i can't open my video by using virtualdub..does anyone know why??

  • @af1993 You may have chosen the 64 bit version of Virtualdub and the codec which don't seem to work. It works properly with the 32-bit version of Virtualdub and ffdshow Tryouts. I can't really help more but this is what my problem was.

  • Lol......

    ".ass"

is that a new file format?

  • I want subtitles with awesome effects ._. you know how to do that?

  • Why do I find this more entertaining and understandable than any other "how to add subtitles with aegisub" video :)

  • @Just04u01 you should convert the video to AVI, VOB, MPG, MPEG... formats ;)

  • @Puyols37 now i know i'm asking a dumb question but, how do i convert?

  • will this work with MKV files??

    or any HD files??

  • that site wheere you get all the dll files has changed.

does anybody know where to get them?

  • The vsfilter is still a dll-file when I try to rename it, do I have to have something else so I can change it, or is it just that I'm doing the wring thing?

  • Finally I can use virtualdub! I've been trying to figure out how to use aegisub in virtualdub. Thanks a lot for the simple explanation. :)

  • Awesome. This was very simple to follow.

  • Thank you so much, almost done with thriller karaoke lyrics, and i got you to thank for this.

  • Why not go to the actual site and get all files for Aegisub in one download?

  • haha big ass xD

  • this was very helpful, however, you didn't mention that the filter needs to be loaded into virtualdub before it can be used.

I spent quite a while trying to figure out why the filter didn't appear xD

  • I dont get it -_- how come when I export my video from aegisub, and then send it to VirtualDub,it doesn't work????

    plz reply....

  • thk u sooo much,,

    it's really help me,,

    i'm subbing right now,

  • Wonderful tutorial, thank you so much! =D

  • big ass thanks

    Big Thanks.

  • bro plz reply to this .. i make it , but when i add a filter .. the subtittle didn't come out .. what's wrong ?

  • Every time I try to open an avi with VirtualDubMod, this pops out:

Couldnt locate decompressor for format "XVID" VirtualDub requires a video for windows (VFW) compatible codec to compress video. Directshow codecs such as those used by windows media player are not suitable.

    What does it mean? :(

  • I get it too! I had this program before, but had to delete all my program, now I'm trying it again, but it won't work anymore..

  • @leadmare It means you're lacking the codec to be able to open the file. I suggest installing the K-lite codec pack to get things going. :D

  • omg i've been trying to figure out virtualdub for over an hour and all the "guides" and forum posts i've read skipped steps or were zero help.....

why didn't i just watch this first. THANK YOU!!!

quick question though: do you know how to put subs on the top as well as the bottom? (like in alot of mvs that have the original language at the top and the translation on the bottom)

  • Thanks for the tutorial it helped a lot, but i seem to have come across a problem. I have a video that i want to sub and it has huge resolution (1440x 1080 to be exact) but its only 71mb, but when i add the subs and save again it starts making a huge file out of it, like several gb. Is there anyway to keep the original video's size and still have its huge resolution?

  • mhen~ thank you so much. I did it at last!! wee~ I use mpeg-1

  • lol thanks for this video! i spent the whole day trying to get the subs to play on virtual dub. now i know what i did wrong. :)

  • Thanks man! This was of great help.

    Peace be with you!

  • ahahahahha big.ass xD

  • haha big.ass

  • ya that doesnt work anymore because vsfilter doesnt exist in aegisub

  • vsfilter is for virtualdub not for Aegisub, it's helps to past your lines on the video

  • jajja its very funny to learn with you xD jaja thanks!

  • that'd be cause of virtualdub. you have to select compression

  • why did the video with the subs become black and white, and it's slanted :|

  • jimmy, i am having a problem downloading the virtualdub. help please! i did one and it says cannot locate decompressor for format FMP4. VD needs compatible codec to decompress video. i used the link to download from your other video vitualdub. i had no problem with the aegisub, just that. thanks if you could help.

  • You just need the right codec.

  • Thanks JimmyR!~

I downloaded Aegisub but didn't know how to use it. Your tutorial is very clear and staright to the point. I learned in an instant! ^_^ I finally added a sub to my favorite japanese concert performance. ;)

Thanks also to MdRipperM for the compression tip! ;)

  • Great tutorial men!!! Thanks A lottttt!!!!

  • I don't have the button COMMIT ..

where the hell is it ?

  • Really nice tutorial for the first use! Kinda outdated, but still works. Thanks man :)

Aegisub is so cool and so... free! :)

  • It's big because you don't compress it. Once you click "Save As..." look down and you will see "Change" next to compression. Choose the best compression you think is OK and the video will be ok than. But some compression makes the video totaly bad, so try some compression. I use normaly Compression DivX Codec (2 Logical CPUs) ;)

  • only bad thing about this program, is that your file sizes are greatly increased. My 600MB video file, when subtitles were added, was estimated by this program to be 61GB when completed. I was like WTF. I got 5 minutes into saving the subtitled AVI and saw the file was already 3GB, i said fuck that, stopped, and deleted it.
