Honestly, I nearly burst in tears and I'm one of those guys who doesn't flinch at the death of another. I think its because I'm seeing mourning in its purest form in the attempt to revive the other.
I've seen many videos and once in real life an ambulance fail to revive someone but it doesn't affect me because its just a series of processes and steps and what have you. But in this video, its just one animal doing whatever he/she can to bring back his/her friend

Aww, this is heartbreaking. I hate seeing animals hurt, tht is total devotion & dedication as a friend. When I see things like this, I imagine if I were in that position. I don't understand why things like this happen, God has a weird way of showing himself but I guess everything is for a reason ..

HMMMmm it does appear the cat on top is a male, during mating it bites the back of the females neck .....holds on with it's claws and tucks it's rear forward to mate...This is the reason for spay and neutering so we don't have these poor homeless animals living on the street.

I am really crying now! I cannot stand to see an animal hurt. They too are Gods' creatures, and they are so helpless. The cat cannot speak or cry but it is obvious that it loved it's friend. This really hurts me. I guess I'm just soft, but I love animals.

This touched me deeply. My mother has epilepsy, and when she is about to have a seizure, her cat tries to warn her by sitting up on her chest and meowing loud. So sweet.
Someone should have taken that cat in and gotten it vetted and cared for it. How can people take videos like this and not do something to help? Shame on them.

@yuusuga Yeah it was actually, you can tell at 0:51 - 0:53 [his hindquarters are 'shakin'' for a reason] and when it grabs the cat by the scruff of it's neck, that's how they 'get down' in cat land. It was probably just kneading the cat because it's corpse was squishy and felt nice under his paws and also when males whant to mate they often go through this kneading ritual, I don't know why though...
I had a cat - who lived for almost 14 years - euthanized recently, because she was terribly ill, a few days ago. I miss her terribly and this video shows how cats can tell when another cat is gone. My other cats have acted oddly since their sister's presence is no longer around.

Isn't it just so disappointing to read negative comments that reduce this little video, which shows a range of complex behaviours, into something one-dimensional and unsavoury? For the majority of the video the cat is struggling to balance so that it can get purchase to massage the heart of the dead/dying cat. It's so obvious that that is what is going on. Other instinctive behaviours do not negate that!!!

Oh the poor kitty lost his friend! I hope someone gave the living cat a home. It looks like they were strays. We were feeding two cats and then one of them stopped coming. It was cold and snowy and the other one was left alone. We took it in and gave it a home. I wonder if our Felicia tried to wake up her friend the way this kitty did! Those of you who think we're saps because this made us cry need to get a heart!
So sad to watch and yes, it made me cry to. Not only is it sad that the cat died, but the effort of the other cat to try to revive it is incredible!
Also, it almost appears the cat after trying to revive it, sits down and prays for it, but gives it one last try to revive again. Interesting to note the bystanders taking a look too.
May the same be said of us when trying to remember a fallen person or friend to try to put forward such efforts. RIP little one and God bless the other cat!

The saddest thing of all is, the cat isn't probably mourning at all, as we'd like to think - but rather trying to mate with the corpse.
In this light, the sad music adds some morbid humour into the situation though.

I'm no veterinarian but I know a lazy cat when I see one. Although, that white cat looks as if though it gives a damn fine massage, would probably put me to sleep too. That said, I'm sure the black cat could have walked home instead of being carried; what a despicable display of laziness.

Oh the poor kitty lost his friend! I hope someone gave the living cat a home. It looks like they were strays. We were feeding two cats and then one of them stopped coming. It was cold and snowy and the other one was left alone. We took it in and gave it a home. I wonder if our Felicia tried to wake up her friend the way this kitty did! Those of you who think we're saps because this made us cry need to get a heart!

So sad to watch and yes, it made me cry to. Not only is it sad that the cat died, but the effort of the other cat to try to revive it is incredible!
Also, it almost appears the cat after trying to revive it, sits down and prays for it, but gives it one last try to revive again. Interesting to note the bystanders taking a look too.
May the same be said of us when trying to remember a fallen person or friend to try to put forward such efforts. RIP little one and God bless the other cat!

Oh Lord, don't anthromorphize this. He doesn't "care" about her. She obviously was in heat, and he's trying to get her to mate with him. The only "sad" thing about this is that these cats aren't in a cozy home indoors where they belong.
