For the most part, it's soooo tough here in the D and it's basically because we have no support from any outsource for instance the entertainment industry, the government, the movie industry etc. It causes hardship and frustration which of course births hopelessness and callousness and those who are around these types of individuals feel the pain and catches the end result of our frustrations.
I produced this movie some time back. It was bad then it's even worst now. Our intent was not to glorify the madness but just let the world know whats going on here "In the D". A lot of the people that was interviewed in this movie is now dead. And just recently my own brother was just shot in the head for his Mercedes Benz in the hood on the west side of Detroit for no reason but simply because of the jealous hearten strangers that were around him at the time.
Sad tragedy is that on average 1 out of 8 teens in Detroit reportedly have some a sexually transmitted disease. Such a tragedy for kids that haven't really begun to live yet but think they are ready. The thug life never has been and never will be the answer. Add to that, so many innocent babies from unwed teen girls in most cases have no positive, educated father figure to look up to. Tragic that this is exactly what Dr. King and Malcolm X did not want to happen. We're in serious, trouble!

detroit gets smaller every year. it used to be the 4th biggest city in the US, now it's not even in the top 10. when people get a way out, they leave. i grew up there and have had a lot of good times there but i don't go back anymore. chicago is a much better city in the midwest with more things to do and less violence.

I still live there. It's not really getting "worse" but it is definitely NOT getting any better either! The block behind me has lost about 20% of the big homes there due to fires and such. When they first moved in they put radios in the windows to announce where the new "crack house" was... & it was winter! Home sweet home.

Detroit doesn't HAVE a ghetto - Detroit IS a ghetto. The exception are the parts that AREN'T messed up (Downtown and a couple of neighborhoods here and there). The people that live there disserve better and it's a reflection at how certain groups are looked at in American culture (if Detroit had levies it would make New Orleans look like the most valued and prized city in the U.S. - maybe they would just drop a bomb on Detroit to deal with it).
I'm from the suburbs of Detroit and didn't grow up there but have stayed there on and off and had friends there and occasionally hung out there. It IS screwed up - bad, more than people would know (because no one cares and it was left to die and rot). However, people are loyal to where they're from and there is SOME good stuff about it. Flint is screwed up too (actually has Bloods and Crips).

The musical history is rich, Motown, Techno, Ghetto Tech, and our Hip-Hop scene is what's up. The growing auto industry around the world is what made Detroit a nightmare. When we were the only ones making cars, it was cool, but as other countries started making cheaper better cars, layoffs happend, people got broke, disenchanted, started robbing and had to get high to keep sane, kinda.

I saw like 9 police officers running around chasing a suspect. My dooor got shot 2 times. My home was robbed 1 time while my family was sleeping (locked doors).My windows got smashed a couple a times. Behind my house and on the side theres alot of stupid graffiti... yeah it sucks. but you get used to it.

This city has history, character, and a lot of amazing people, but at the same time, it also has a lot of bad things going for it. For some reason, the government has yet to step in and try to help it out, so the situation remains the same. i went to a tigers game in detroit last summer.. i was completely sketched out by the area- hundreds of abaondoned buildings and all in all just an eerie and unwelcoming feeling. however, comerica park (where the tigers play) was quite possible the nicest ballpark i've ever went to, and tigers fans were surprisingly friendly. it was weird.

Detroit has never been safe, they were worse in the 70's actually than now, but still rated the most violent city in America. When they sell houses there for $1 you know it's bad,lol. Easts Detroit was thriving with jobs in the 70's yet like I said murders were higher. It simply is'nt safe there. And Flint 65 miles to the northwest is not much better. MIchigan has many inner cities the two aforementioned, Grand rapids(Michigans 2nd biggest city) Benton harbor(aka Little Chicago), etc.

detroit gets smaller every year. it used to be the 4th biggest city in the US, now it's not even in the top 10. when people get a way out, they leave. i grew up there and have had a lot of good times there but i don't go back anymore. chicago is a much better city in the midwest with more things to do and less violence.
the type of shit that's wrong with detroit is glamorized in rap music but there's nothing fun about it and it sucks for everyone there.

I still live there. It's not really getting "worse" but it is definitely NOT getting any better either! The block behind me has lost about 20% of the big homes there due to fires and such. It used to be a drug house with alot of traffic... go figure. There is a "boy" across the street who's mother works for the Det Police dept and he deals from her house! When they first moved in they put radios in the windows to announce where the new "crack house" was... & it was winter! Home sweet home.

Detroit doesn't HAVE a ghetto - Detroit IS a ghetto. The exception are the parts that AREN'T messed up (Downtown and a couple of neighborhoods here and there). The people that live there disserve better and it's a reflection at how certain groups are looked at in American culture (if Detroit had levies it would make New Orleans look like the most valued and prized city in the U.S. - maybe they would just drop a bomb on Detroit to deal with it).

I'm from the suburbs of Detroit and didn't grow up there but have stayed there on and off and had friends there and occasionally hung out there. It IS screwed up - bad, more than people would know (because no one cares and it was left to die and rot). However, people are loyal to where they're from and there is SOME good stuff about it. Flint is screwed up too (actually has Bloods and Crips).

The musical history is rich, Motown, Techno, Ghetto Tech, and our Hip-Hop scene is what's up. The growing auto industry around the world is what made Detroit a nightmare. My dad's car got stolen like 5 times in Detroit (use to live there) and the 6th time it got totaled. I saw someone stole a car once and ran it into a tree.. later it got arsoned. I saw like 9 police officers running around chasing a suspect. My dooor got shot 2 times. My home was robbed 1 time while my family was sleeping (locked doors).My windows got smashed a couple a times. You cant say shit like this until you've lived through it. I was born and raised here, and I love Detroit. This city has history, character, and a lot of amazing people, but at the same time, it also has a lot of bad things going for it. For some reason, the government has yet to step in and try to help it out, so the situation remains the same. I can drive a few blocks and be surrounded by crack houses, then drive a few more blocks and be downtown, which is beautiful.

My old house on Bentler was blown up! West Berut, they called it. That house saw cops get shot in the front yard, houses on both side burnt down, and the ones next to those too!
It's hard to believe I escaped... It's still how I remember it. Do you still get put on hold when you call 911? IF you call 911?

I lived on Blackstone. I was just up in the Big D last week. No houses stand where I lived...and as far as calling cops??? What? So you can wait for them for ten hours??

Shit man. as a forreighner its weird hearing such stories coming out of USA. USA is supposed to be a civilized place but in many cases its like a warzone. I think USA should go on a war on powerty like 2pac said. USA needs to fix their its back yard before going abroad spending billions killing some ragheads in other countries. Obama will sort it out.

The problem with Detroit is that you have no structure and no laws in the street. You hate on niggas that's shinin instead of tryin to soak up whatever knowledge you can that will get you there yourself. Crabs in a bucket. How is a niggas motivation for life going to be hating on the next man? Naw, your motivation should be getting money and taking care of your family and everything else will fall in place.

I grew up in the D. I live in TX now. The world is not ready for this story about Detoit. I even know a couple of the guys in the video. I was happy to see them alive. and well. I wish the writers of this movie prosperity. I will support the movie when it comes out because I lived their for 30 years. I miss the D. It took me 3 years to get use to not being their. I still come back ever year. East side till I Die.
