  • Incredible

  • Im Irish myself, born & bred in County Down (not too far away from Bestie's home patch in the east) i look at best, and i feel extremely proud... Ive never seen any player compare to him but one, Paddy McCourt.. Another Northern Ireland prodigy!

  • although Im a man city fan i still think the guy was a genius. great video mate

  • Most complete and naturally gifted footballer of all-time. pure genius

  • @Queenwraith he was a great player but not the most complete player ever he could not defend as in play center back

  • even pele new who was the best no disrespect to the irish lads but if hed been brazilian or other he wud have been the most reconised footballer ever ..iam an english sland fan we have irish jocks welsh following us we all get on as we should ballicks to politics ect ... as to besty you irish had the best ever his name sumed him up the best and your fans are great crack as well besty will be rememberd in 100s years time thats a fact ..

  • He was majestic. Saw his first game in Scotland, Hibs vs. Partick Thistle, though he was clearly past his best by then. Still a privilege to have seen him, though.

Oh, and that was a perfectly good goal.

  • His 'Goal' was perfectly legal, the ball was in the air and out of Banks' hands and therefore 'in play'. As a kid my Dad took me to Wembley to watch Bobby Charlton win his 100th cap. England v Northern Ireland......My Dad said 'Just keep your eyes on Bestie, watch what he does on and off the ball'...........He was poetry in motion, England won 3-1 but George Best was magnificent. So glad I saw him play in his prime. RIP

  • typical bestie to want to humiliate one of the game's thugs by taunting him. there'll never be another like george.

  • what is wrong about his goal @ 0:11?

  • ¿He never play for England?

  • We English love him!

  • great talent!

  • HAHAHAHA!! You don't see footballers taunting these days like he did at 1:00

  • @Beginstheman yeah!! it was brilliant!!

  • You're simply the best better than all the rest

  • Sheer athletic beauty. He was a graceful as a dancer. A few players have come near to his talent but no one has ever looked half as good playing football

  • @tigerarmyrule Couldn't agree more

  • @Queenwraith notice the ease with which he switches to his weaker ( left ) foot. One of the many reasons for the attraction of his style was the two footedness he spent hours and hours practising as a kid. Cruyff had this as well and it is this which makes them both superior to watch than the one footed likes of maradona and Messi. Not necessarily superior players but superior to watch, aesthetically superior.

  • @tigerarmyrule I know man, I'm a Belfast lad and huge United/Best fan. Love seeing clips like this, unfortunately when match of the day started Best was just coming through and most of his early genius was never caught on camera, I still say Best was gifted with something that no other player before or since has had. Unique talent. There's a Best tribute on here by johanceder if you search it, has lots of old skills and footage on it, uncanny balance and change of direction.

  • @tigerarmyrule agree

  • @sergioleoneitalia A fellow Best fan, finally someone who sees the genius! ;-)

  • Meh, Chuck Norris could drink this guy under the table.

  • What happened to Georgie, from watching him way back when it was obvious we were veiwing the most amazing player to grace the game......then disaster.

  • @TheStandofTheLastGuy I'll give you that!! It'a a pity the rest of the NI team were shite!!!

  • Nice post, especially as this shows more than just the disallowed goal. Amazing trickery, laced with some cheek! I wonder if anyone out there has an even longer clip of this match.

  • Oh yeah. And as George passed Cruyff, he symbolically punched the air, rubbing salt into Cruyff's humiliation, just so that everybody would know who the real Daddy was ! Whose the Daddy eh ! Whose the f*cking Daddy !

  • Anyone know where we can see proof that George was the greatest of all time i.e. George in 1976 (waaay past his best) purposely humiliating Johan Cruyff - at that time, the world's no. 1 footballer ?

"Instead of heading towards goal, he turned directly infield, weaved his way past at least 3 Dutchmen & found his way to Cruyff, who was wide right. Best took the ball to his opponent, dipped a shoulder twice & slipped it between Cruyff's feet – nutmegging arguably the best player in the world."

  • HAHA i looove the taunting.

  • In terms of pure skill my all time list is as follows:

    5. Pele

    4. Banks (best goaltender EVER)

    3. Best

    2. Maradonna

    1. Cryuff

  • Yes yes yes!Georgie,u're the BEST!!!!

  • Mardonna good, pele better, george best

  • Pure class

  • What was wrong with the goal?

The ball had left the goalie's hand and was in mid air when Best kicked it.

  • Sadly, they lost 2-1 :(

  • he is the best ever

  • Simply beautiful to watch. So balletic, so graceful just so much better to watch him play than anyone else. So light on his feet, two footed, perfectly balanced. The most elegant game we have ever seen.

  • I saw this match live @ Windsor Pk. It was right b4 my birthday in '71. "Sniffer" Clarke bagged the only goal of the game 4 the 3 Lions. Best looked really sharp 4 N. Ire. in that match, IMO.

  • Great Best

  • he is the best...

  • What can one say about George Best indeed!

  • I remember him saying he would have liked to have played in a utd ireland team. Pity he didnt as he might have played at a major international competition then.

  • @Ducksexbody You remember him saying that, how the fuck has no one else remembered then? Where you with him?

  • @yermaw145 He said it in numerous interviews. Google it. One example in 2005 he called for a unified team and said quote "I've always thought that at any given time both the Republic and Northern Ireland have had some great world-class players," said Best.

"I just believe in trying something. If it doesn't work, at least you've tried. I still hope that in my lifetime it happens."

does it upset you that a northen protestant doesn't hate ireland like you do bigot?

  • @Ducksexbody Does that say he would like a united Ireland ?

  • @Ducksexbody I'm from the same place as Bestie and my only concern is where they would play the games. Rugby is played in Dublin so it's only fair that the football is in Belfast

  • That part at 1:05 is just fucking brilliant. :)

  • agreed. it's like saying "come an ave ago if u think you're hard enuff".......

  • forestgumpaed....he achieved everything in the game, except appearing in the final stages at a world cup,to be amongst the greatest would have been a great epitaph for him.GOD BLESS YOU GEORGE BEST......simply gifted

  • erstaunlich ,aber vergleich spieler ihn in die wahre welt groben garrincha maradona pele di stefano puskas etc etc ist nach fusballe angesehensten zahlen reine fantasie und wird in der regel anglocentric

  • Simply the Best! That's all......

  • So much confidence and natural talent. Clearly one of the best players ever. RIP

  • Agree. But imagine how much better he would have been if he wasn't always drunk. Miles better than Pele I reckon.

  • So true, he would have been even better (if that's possible)

  • Watching what Best was able to do with a ball at his feet only highlights the fact that the art of dribbling is dead . No player in todays game is capable of that footwork.

  • Brilliant! shame there weren't another few good players on the NI team.

The only other world-class player was Pat Jennings (in goals).

  • 1'01 - just listen to the crowd!!!!! RIP Belfast Boy - the pride of Ulster and Ireland's finest.

  • Look he mite of been born in northern ireland but he was asked in an interview wud he of liked 2 play 4 england and he said no,, he wanted 2 play 4 ireland,, d country he was born in.... So in my books dat makes him irish not british

  • Why would he want to play for England? He wasn't English. He played for Northern Ireland, because he was from Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom. George Best was British.

  • northern ireland is in the UK but not in Britain

  • that doesnt make sense u retard. "he mite of been born in NI but....... said no"?!?!?! that doesnt make sense. why the fuck wouldnt he hv played for NORTHERN ireland? he ws born and bred here, he ws northern irish through n through.

by the way he isnt british or irish, he is NORTHERN irish!

  • The Best British player ever lived

  • he isnt british u mug. he is northern irish. english twat

  • ur fucked up buddy

  • maradoa good

    pele better

    george best

  • @dodger2k11 what's maradoa

  • He was simply the best.

  • Is sad that he never played in a world cup,he was great

  • 1:oo What a legend!! If you do that to an argentinian, he surely asks for booking.

  • The football association pointed out that

a goalkeeper must have " clearance " to kick the ball, which is why George Best's goal was

    not allowed.

  • no not back then, only now you cant do that, players would try it all the time.

  • this was a brilliant and legitimate goal, the referee cheated with England, too bad to cancel such a goal.

  • Outstanding classic football movements by the

greatest why George even invited a certain

Mr Peter Storey to try and get the ball to no

avail, of course it was a goal for Ireland

it was the same as a throw to a defender George was to quick for banks always a fan.

  • Haha - brilliant!!

    Rest in peace George.

PS If you read any of his books, he says he regretted that he hadn't played more for his country. He was frustrated with management and the fact that NI couldn't make an impact internationally.

  • what a player, what god given talent. RIP George. GAWA forever

  • absolutely brilliant gotta love his nerve

the first of the soccer legends

he set the tone for todays standard

  • im sorry but as much as he was great player farerets he was not a great international player he didnt play enough for his country and that was through his own choice GAWA

  • Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, name who you want, were all great international players. But George Best, in my opinion, had more talent and genius than all of them put together. He was simply without equal. The greatest footballer ever for club and country.

  • What a player!

    He Rocks, man.

    Rest in Peace, George.

  • Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

  • If our wee country makes another Best or 2, we have to send em to Rangers and Celtic or abroad as England waste their talent!

  • BEST...footballer in the world !!! :)

  • steveissimo, who are you to judge his personal life? He was the greatest ever, we remember him for his football, his personal life was HIS personal life.

  • u r a waste of life u depraved piece of shit!!

  • BEST07LEGEND

  • The Best!

  • that wasn't a foul on Banks.

  • What a wonderful international player! Simply the greatest. Such a shame that he should miss England-66, Mexico-70 and Germany-74...
