A Quick Question: What's more dependable In-Ear Phones or Outer-Ear Headphones? I see a lot of Drummers like Igoe, Weckl, Chambers, Harrison, etc. Use In-Ear Phones but, then I get a lot of recommendations on Outer-Ear Headphones.
wow yeah i really hate people who think this is from john mayer. john mayer plays some blues, so he needs his drummer to play some blues beats FROM THE PAST
As Tommy says in the book, this beat has been around forever. It was around for a long, long time before John Mayer was even born. It's amazing how people only know what they know and think it all started with themselves. Learn some history!
It's funny you should say that, because it sounds like that song. But, this chord progression and feel were around WAY before John mayer. He just had a hit with it so most people have heard it.
Actually, this simple chord progression is one of the most common sequences in popular music. If you listen for it, you'll notice it everywhere. That's all those years of piano lessons coming out! :)
whats the point of playing it on the electric kit at the end? you can hardly hear it... sounds like a variation of john mayers tune for sure... i also like the comment of jeff porcaro out of love... you cant hear a shuffle like this and not think of jeff porcaro...another great shuffle of jeffs like this is "these chains" check it!
I think he plays it on electric kit because there are a lot of people ( like me) who can't play acoustic drums in their house. I'm glad he did it, it makes me feel like I'm not alone. Nothing sounds like acoustic though, that's for sure.
yeh i agree, even tho i don't own an E/kit anymore it would be really benificial to e/players cos u can feel a little detached, i know i did when i had s set.
I think percusmann is right. Playing the electric set shows that for those that have sound limitations where they live, it sounds perfectly ok played on an electronic set.
I myself have those same sound limitations due to where I live, and an electric set makes practicing a much more available thing, and also it doesn't annoy my neighbors who don't share the same passion.
Love watching this dude drum, he feels it right down to his bones:)

Its nice to see that hes playing almost a half time shuffle groove, but hes not playing the shuffle constantly on the hats, interesting choice

thank you very much: Many people do not know the real name of this pattern. and the term "Shuffle" confuses me
I was looking for the SNL closing song (rock waltz Swing "waltz in a") and ask for the rhythm, but nobody knew the answer ...
Thanks again!!!

That's all in preference. You can have the in-ears or cans, which ever feels better to you.

@TheHydroponica We all are pretty much playing ideas from the past...just infusing our own twists on it...
And I'm pretty sure Steve Jordan and J. J. Johnson know how to handle themselves. lol

Sounds kind of like an altered Purdie Shuffle, I like it.
