  • dammit scooby, U DA MAN!

thanks for uploading these unique videos on youtube, they really help.

    keep it comin dude.

  • Thanks Scooby for the vids i hit the gym 4-5 times a week and do some of the stuff you do in your vids also if i dont have time for the gym i just have a home workout and use the exercises you show. Thanks again :)

  • thanks man,i just tried this version of side raises instead of the stretched out arm version, they really destroyed my delts.

  • Hey Scooby love your videos!!.....how do you know when you get STRONGER?

  • You know you are stronger and making progress if you can either 1) do more reps with the same weight or 2) move up in weight and do the same number of reps. If you go a whole month without making any progress as I have outlined above then its time to do a complete change of your workout plan because its not working.

  • Scooby, when you say that you take a glass of protein powder as your 1st and last meal everyday, do you mix put in in the blender with bannana and milk, or just mix the powder with water and a spoon?

  • For my last meal of the day, I just mix protein powder with water unless I'm REALLY hungry then I will mix it with OJ. As far as the first meal of the day, I'm always famished in the morning so I have a real meal. For those people who hate breakfast, a glass of OJ with protein powder is the bare minimum.

  • Hey Scooby thanks for all off your helpful information on your website your the man! I have been using your intermediate workout routine for about 3 months now. I really feel stronger. I noticed on your website that you had a section of videos to come and two really caught my eye. The Killer ab Workout and the advanced killer chest workout part 2. Around how long will it be till they are put on your website? I'm really looking forward to them!

  • Thanks for reminding me, I really need to do those impt videos. Just got sidetracked.

  • scooby, you are the fucking man. I love your videos and only use the exercises on your website, I started doing the 30 minutes cardio everyday, and with some inspiration, I can totally see results man! You are the best!

  • VEGAN BODYBUILDING

Hi Scooby, I've just send you a friendship invitation, please add me as I want you to send a message on a desired study on vegan bodybuilding.

    Thanks in advance

(and please delete this comment afterwards, it seemed the only way for me to get through to you!)

  • Hi Scooby - thanks for the awesome videos.

    Two questions

    1) I've pulled a muscle (left delt) and even though I've rested for 6 weeks am about 40% down on lat pulldown weight. It doesn't hurt now, but how can I recover to pull strength again?

    2) How can I get in contact with you about some training ideas?

  • I get lots of requests for personalized advice, here's the problem. I have a full time job, a family, and several other hobbies so the time I can devote to my fitness en devours is limited to 6hrs a week. I try to do as much good for as many people as I can in that time. In 6hrs I can make a video that potentially millions would benefit from, I could add website content that would benefit thousands, or I could give 6 people personalized advice.

  • First task = clone scooby!

Is it possible to contact you about products/sponsorship? I ask because we're a young startup and we've just released a product (inspired by your clear videos) that I think will interest you a great deal from engineering/tech/fitness POVs. One sentence is all we need ;-)

  • Sounds like you have made a good recovery so far. The #1 goal is not to re injure it so you are 100% correct to proceed slowly and cautiously. If you can, ask a physical therapist how aggressive they think you can be without risking another injury. I would keep with high rep, low weight till you are sure the danger of re-injury is past.

  • hey Scooby I've been working out 2 hours every day for the past two weeks and now I feel tired but I want to go on. is there a way I could Work out without getting tired?

  • fondare: It sounds to me like you're overtraining and not allowing your muscles adequate time to recover. Remember that during weight training the muscle fibres get torn, and when they are repaired (when you rest) they get built a little thicker and stronger. If you don't allow that to happen you can actually get weaker. Check out Scooby's workout plans and basics section on his website. Also make sure you are getting proper sleep and nutrition. Small defecits here can add up.

  • If thats 2hrs of weightlifting every day, thats too much for anybody except a drug enhanced pro BBer. If thats an hour of lifting and an hour of cardio, you are fine. To reduce fatigue, try and separate the cardio and lifting by as much as possible.

  • I'm sorry ...but when I start doing these exercises at 45 - 60 lbs...I can't do them too slow...they have to be about the speed of a curl (a little slower)...and my form isn't perfect....but I'm still getting strong.

  • Hey jareds1007, 45-60lbs doing these side raises????? Either you are stronger than any pro BBer I have ever seen or you are using WAY too much weight. Just for fun, try dropping to 20lbs and saying this aloud when doing the exercise "up one thousand up two thousand, hold one thousand, down one thousand down two thousand" My guess is that despite using a fraction of the weight you were using that you will get a much better burn (and results).

  • guys most of your questions can be answered by checking scooby's website, the link is in his profile, its very helpful!

  • Brilliant. Cheers as always Scooby!

  • hey, i coudltn ask this in ur other vid cuz u disabled comments, but could u tell me some lifts/activities and foods i can eat to increase my metabolism

  • thank you scooby for all you time and effort, you've been a great inspiration to me and (i'll guess) to many others also.

  • I am a young man in his prime interested in bodybuilding, but I want to know if its possible to be a bodybuilder without eating veggies, because they make me gagg... literally, veggies are gross! I can eat fruit, and foods rich in fiber, but veggies? eww!! Well, I guess I can eat them once a day, but anymore would kill me. So, can I build massive muscle without eatting veggies or at least 1 serving a day?

  • i found me a gym so i can FINALLY START WORKING OUT AGAIN!

  • you win teh prize!

  • would you recomend ll cool j's platinum workout as a workout/weight lifting and nutrition informational book.

  • Lol I love this video.

  • This is your weirdest video yet!

  • Now I know you guys aren't medical professionals but what would you do in my case? I was thinking about just doing cardio and staying slim, but give up bodybuilding. Reccomendations?

  • I just found out something that really crushed me yesterday. It turns out that a thyroid problem runs in my family, and just yesterday I too was diagnosed wih an abnormal thyroid. And While I am not in bad shape, the doctor said that I would have a hard time sometime soon in my life with bodybuilding because this condition is associated with weight gain. He says that I won't feel as full after meals etc, and experience lack of energy, constipiation and fatigue, which I already experience.

  • Remember, I'm not a doctor, but the symptoms you describe sound like hypothyroidism, meaning your body produces too little thyroid hormone.

This can, AFAIK, be effectively treated by replacing the lacking amounts through medications like Synthroid.

  • scooby how many reps would you recommend ?

  • look at the side camera. reduce the pressure on your elbows. keep your twists above the elbows.

  • scooby u should become a youtube partner...

  • he should make a DVD ;o

  • han is the man!

  • hey scooby i sent you a friend invite, not sure if you got it.

  • great tips!! disturbing co-host!

    thanks

  • Hey scooby, is there a reason you can't do these with straight arms? ie, standing up and your dumbells are by your waist, then raising them up and out from your waist to level with your shoulders? Sorry if its obvious, would just love to know:)

  • I think its better to do it like this because it puts less stress on your elbow joint.

  • cos the longer the lever the easier it is to bend - if you do the bent arms at say 20-30 kg with straight arm you can only do half say 10-15kg.

  • I think because this (for most people) makes you do better form because you can easily keep track of he dumbells on each side of you. If your arms were straight, it would be hard to concentrate on your workout and concentrate on your form. Bad form not only gives poor results but is a great way to get injured. You can hurt your back easily doing shoulder excersizes if you arn not carefull using bad form.

  • execuse me but arnole press are the same thing right? what i mean is this does arnole press work out the same muscle part as this one in the videos?

  • i take willy wackers in my poop ejector

  • You have one god awful sense of humor. But at least your exercises are effective. Thanks.

  • hey one quick question i do these and your killer chest workout and a bunch more workouts but the first couple weeks of working out i was sore the day after but now i dont get sore anymore...i am only 16 and 5% body fat...is this normal to not be sore and should i do it every other day?

  • hey scooby what if you feel it more in your traps the next day, is that okay?

  • Would it be alright if I consume all of my vegetable servings throughout the day the same? I mean like peas and carrots 2x's a day for like a week straight before switching off to broccoli or something?

  • It won't hurt you but will get boring really fast! Variety helps keep your interest in food and the gym too. It does help with convenient preparation though I guess. Why not alternate more often than once a week? This would be a better idea all round really

  • guy your are so crazy and funny! xD

und dein ist wirklich überdurchschnittlich gut ^^, aber: warum sprichst du so viel deutsch? wird deine internetseite besonders von deutschen genutzt?

  • Hi scooby1961.

I always listen your videos. i get six pack abs thanks to you. And thanks to you i dont give up the training. this video is awesome.

and Happy new year for you =)

    +and merry charistmas =)

(i was bestsolidsnake. but im hacked)

  • typo in my last reply.... response not repsonce.. sorry!

  • Evilcyber..sorry this is not strictly true!! Foods that elevate your blood sugar rapidly (sugars, fast acting carbs such as white bread, potatoes etc) will cause an insulin repsonse (insulin is one of the most powerful hormones in the body & hence its manipulation has been abused by many bodybuilders). This repsonse will cause the body to store energy by removing the sugars from the blood & storing them in the muscle & liver as glycogen & also the body AS FAT! The bodys workings are complicated!

  • I repeat it once more: Excessive amounts of energy, no matter if from fat or carbohydrates, will be stored as fat. Or are you trying to tell me that you can eat any amount of carbohydrates and will stay slim?

  • Hi Scooby! I like your videos so much because they are so honest and have cleared out some misundertandings!

I'm an "intermediate" person in bodybuilding and have trained for more than 2 years as hobby. Recently I started a "definition-phase", which is 50 kilometers jogging per week and the same weight-training as before with a diet containing more protain. 2 weeks have passed and I haven't lost a single pound!

Is it possible that I have built so much muscle as the fat I've lost?

    Thanks a lot

  • I can't speak for him, but yes I think so. That is complicated, to know how much weight you lost and how much muscle you gained, bu my advice would be not to focus so much on weight man. I mean, jsut look at yourself in the mirror with honest, and you can tell can't you? Feel around, what is fat and what isn't.

  • just*

    honesty*

  • "was macht diese sau da ich kann es einfach nicht glauben" =P and i can´t believe that you can speak german =)

  • scooby you're a nice guy and all and surely you have worked out long enough, but cut the crap with the "using too heavy weights suck etc etc" and post some of your hardcore steroid cycles because all here know that you're onto some heavy duratextron and decametabolin at least. nevertheless, great videos, but you're giving too many people in here too many hopes, with other words, to look like you without steroids needs at least 7 years of heavy workout and lots of food daily.

  • I suggest you look up "slander".

  • phili878: If you watch Scooby's videos and read his comments and website, you will see that he is always upfront about the fact that it has taken many years of hard training (not steroids) to get his physique, and that people should not expect to gain muscle quickly, and should be realistic about what they can achieve. Check out "Myths: Just train harder" on his website.

  • Scooby . Do you have any idea of pec exercisers ? backpack push up gave me a real great sore but i'm really sick of doing them and then and idea ? of how to make them not boring ? . Or any great exercise that give me sore ? .

  • Check Scooby's playlist with 17 chest exercise videos.

  • I like this better than straight-armed raises although I don't ever gain much strength or mass with arm raises. Anything else works for me.

  • Hahaha, funny idea with that Hans-Gnome. ;-)

    Greetings from Germany!

  • Haha, Hans. Scooby your an inspiration, thanks for all the help and tips for body building.

  • Great hobby

  • Hans rules. Thanks for illustrating bad form-its very helpful to know what not to do as well haha. I'm trying to get out of bad habits like using too much weight myself.

I have a question about breathing with this exercise. Should I inhale on downward motion and exhale on the explosive upward motion, right?

    Thanks for the help Scooby.

  • IMHO do what feels comfortable to you. Just don't hold your breath!

  • Hans is my hero!

  • oh man scoop thx again for hans! thats so awesome :)

  • I love your hat

But your videos are even better

    Amazing stuff thank you

  • Hey Scoob, educational and entertaining as usual! 3 questions: Should you be doing these movements until complete muscle failure (not sacrificing good form of course) or a set number of reps? How are these better than your typical dumbell shoulder shrugs? What if you increase the rep time to 6-8 seconds total with a 1-2 second hold at the end of the movement? Better "squeeze" for the traps? Thanks!

  • Don't always go to failure. As a general rule: Vary the way you execute the exercise from time to time or your muscles will adapt and gains will be hard to come by.

  • saintapathy: Lateral raises primarily work the deltoids, whereas shoulder shrugs mainly work the trapezius.

  • does this broaden the shoulders ?

  • lmao ur weird

  • Hi, Scooby

Thank you for the very clear video demonstrations, and sincere advice.

Can you recommend some protein supplements?

    Thank you.

  • I prefer 100% natural protein powders, there are very few so read the labels carefully. The one I like is from optimum nutrition, check my website for details.

  • Thank you very much for the prompt reply, and the advice.

  • this hans thing is so silly

    its silly beyond belief

  • Shut up moron.

  • Hey, Scooby... I like the addition of Hans. This is my only subscription for YouTube, so I appreciate the entertainment as well as the great information.

  • hey. does this exercise broaden the shoulders?

cause im interested in broadening my shoulders.

  • Yes, this exercise broadens the shoulders. If you have been working out less than 5 years though, you should be doing a whole-body workout program and not specializing on any one bodypart

  • cooool, you make bodybuilding look like real fun, good job

  • Help me with my cutting phase! I don't eat much different then the bulking phase... low fat, high carbs and protein.

  • PLEASE check out my website under Myths>BulkingAndCutting! Bulking/cutting just makes lots of work for yourself (who likes to diet?) and it doesnt help your muscle building at all. Bulking is just an excuse to pig out and get fat, friends dont let friends bulk!

  • I was bulking for 8 months gained 15 lbs of lean muscle... only gained a pound of fat. bulking up if you don't care about what you eat is one thing, but to eat lots of food thats all good works great! now i just need to add cardio into my diet. you can't gain muscle & keep fat down, doesn't work both ways!! I tried at the beginning and couldn't get any gains, so I ate more, ran less and then now I look like a champ.

  • Energy wise it doesn't matter if you eat junk or healthy food: Excessive amounts of energy will be stored by your body as fat, no matter if they come from lettuce or a burger.

And I'm always vary about people saying they gained so and so many lbs or kg of muscle in a given time. A tape measure and increased strength are more accurate indicators than standing on a scale.

  • loose the gnome. It's annoying.

  • Thank you so muchh!!!!!!! Man, i can't even tell you how glad i am i subscribed to you, you've helped me so much through out my workouts, keep up the great vids!

  • scobby love your shoulder workouts

can u make more back workouts specifacly lats because i feel like im getting stronger with my triceps chest etc but i can never train my back cause i cant feel the burn ?

  • NICE !!!

  • Hahaha that was great.

  • and if you do know this product... if you use it and then stop do you loose all the muscle you've gained like roids... and is it 100 percent safe and i might be wrong you might not use it and know nothing about it but yeah it was advertised on your youtube vid thX scooby

  • cis-9,trans-11

do you use this stuff scooby because the effects it does doesnt seem 100 percent natural as they say...

    burns body fat

and all this other stuff 700 percent more effective then creatine... is it safe or is it another form of roids... and do you use it?

  • I'm against all supplements. This cis-9, trans-11 is untested garbage like the rest of them. Show me double blind peer-reviewed studies that proves it both safe and effective and I will endorse it. There is nothing wrong with building muscle with sweat, the old fashioned way. Its a bit slower but its a lot safer (and cheaper!).

  • Cool, send me a pix of you wearing the shirt somewhere unique and I will put it on my website :)

  • I love ur vids. This year i'm taking on body building as a hobby. I dont know why but to me hearing you grunt is kinda funny. especially when you did those bad form exercises. lol. happy new year. :)

  • Thanks for ALL the vids this is the first I have commented on. I just wanted to say thanks and you do a great job keep up the good work and happy new year

  • I love hans :D

    awesome video.

Just gotta ask, what do you think of taking creatine as a supplement?

  • Creatine will definitely help fasten your growth but also, it will make your muscles really stiff.

  • I'm against all supps, that includes creatine.

  • I'm a big fan, but I really think Hans should be playing a silent role in your vids. New subscribers would take you more seriously imo.

  • i agree. or maybe You can change Hans' voice a bit harder, mutated, deeper.

  • I want to be taken seriously, but not too seriously. I have a lot of experience but I certainly dont know it all, Hans helps convey that. I like people to do research and form their own ideas based on sound reasoning, I dont want anyone to unquestionably take my words as guru-gospel.

  • hey scooby do you bench press?

  • Nope, I dont do bench press and havent for decades. Dont like it, never have.

  • SCOOBY tell me your Tanning secret Mate. it looks great!

  • Hey Scooby... I need your help and advice...I have some knee problems and my doctor and physiotherapist both said leg extensions would help...but it hurts after a few reps...I was just wondering if there are any other leg workouts that won't be so hard on the knees

  • You need to work with you PT on this. If they said leg extensions should help but they hurt then they might not have communicated well the way they wanted you to do them.

  • Happy New Year and Thanks.

  • I love how you reused the original clip to show good form. ;)

  • good video as always. I was wondering if you could address the hardest part of shoulder developement, at least for me anyways: rear delts. My rear delts are non existent and basically are just part of my rather large back. I do rear lateral raises but have begin to think that genetically I just am not cut out to have a separated shoulder

  • OK, will do rear delts soon.

  • Brother scooby why do we not bend our arms at 45 degrees - why 90 degrees ?. Thanks for posting these videos - they have changed my life for the better!

  • I'm not an expert..but I'd say it's simple to maximize your workout

  • Nice vid dude. Can you please make a vid showing how to do rear delt raises?

  • hey scooby, what's your opinion on Goji Berries?

  • Goji Berries? Without having done any research, my first guess is "Useless Fad".

  • silentsneek: If you enjoy the taste of polystyrene wrapped in cardboard, but worry about the effect it will have on your health, then Goji berries are an excellent alternative.

  • Oh my God, I DIED laughing when I heard your description of the taste of Goji berries sexomaticveganfreak! Dont suppose M&Ms is going to be offering a new Goji-M&Ms anytime soon.

  • HES HUGE! how does he make the girly voice xD?!

  • How do I make the voices? Wish I had that kind of range, but no, its a toy voice disguiser.

  • is it ok to workout when your sore from a previous workout?

  • No, it's not. When you are sore your muscles are telling you: We need time to recuperate.

  • Hey scooby cool videos they're really helpfull and they krak me up! :]....But I have a question and I would be really thankfull if you answered it.....If you dont get sore the next day after working out does it mean that you didn't gain muscle?....Everytime i workout my shoulders i don't seem to get sore the next day no matter how much I do....Am I getting a workout for my shoulders even tho I don't get sore?....good videos keep it up!!

  • have a day were you work JUST shoulders and they might.

  • absolutely, getting sore just means that your muscle adapts to the exercise and build up of lactic acid. just because they don't get sore doesnt mean you work that muscle group out everyday. let them rest for like 3 days you know.

  • As human beings, we have 2 seperate sources of energy in our bodies. When working out, we use the primary system first. When THAT system has no energy left, it switches over to the secondary system. This seconday system produces lactic acid in the muscles where the blood pools. This acid will eat away at muscle and cause pain and soreness the next day. The fact thta you are not feeling pain just means that you are satying in the primary energy system which can be good or bad.

  • This depends on what type of gains u want to make. The secondary system starts to work when you're breathing heavily after long periods of time. Usually you will work the muscles harder in this system and need more down time for rest. If you want to work out every day however, staying in the fisrt system is perfectly fins as you will not build up lactic acid as much and you wont lose any muscle. Remember, more isn't better. Better is better.

  • Soreness is just one indication of a good workout, not a definitive one. The real test is, are you slowly getting stronger? Can you do a rep or two more than you could last month using the same weight? If so, your workouts are effective. Mass eventually follows strength, hang in there and be patient.

  • man what a great work out thanks scooby and keep showing the dwarf in your next videos!!!

  • does this sharpen your shoulders/?

  • Does this exercise sharpen your shoulders? No, hopefully this exercise helps make them big and round (given enough time).

  • Thank you. I'll try this out.

  • cool elf dwarf thingy whatchemacallit

  • Hell noice!!! CHECK MY PAGE AND ADD ME FRIEND!!! SUB ME I SUB BACK! YEE MAN

  • whats the point?

  • your'e the one cool person scooby1961

  • scooby is german?

lose the hat bro... nice video nonetheless!

  • Scooby is not German but Hans is :)

  • thanks scooby this really helps...nice dwarf!!!

  • haha Ich kann es einfach nicht glauben ^^

    nice video scooby

  • Vielen Dank!

  • HAHAHA

I thought the dwarf was going to lose it and go: WTF?????

Hans, thank you so much for your videos

    Muchas gracias desde Panama

  • Hans DID lose it and said the German equivalent of WTF :)

  • hey scooby why your gnome is speaking german? it's funny^^ Auf wiedersehen ;)

  • Hans the bodybuilding gnome speaks German because he was born in Germany :) Really, he is from Germany.

  • scooby been getting bigger it seems

  • I appear bigger? Just camera angles and body positioning, I'm the same weight and bodyfat percentage as I have been for the last 8 years.

  • yeah you seem to be getting a lil more muscle mass could just be the camera, any who keep up the good work

  • is it better to do your side raises with bent arms than straight arms?

  • Side raises with straight arms vs. the way I show here? Personally, I like the type I illustrate in this video better because they put less stress on my elbows and seem less likely to cause my tendonitis to flare up. Try them both ways and see which YOU prefer :)

  • hans owns

  • scooby, with all of these tutorials and exercises, i was just wondering...what's your regular workout schedule?

  • My workout schedule? "Regular but random" describes it lately, really mixing things up lately.

  • oh ok i see...so i guess consistency is important but strict consistency isn't crucial. thanks scooby, you're vids and comments really help

  • this deserves and award!!! lmao nice video scoob u get more and more creative with each video

  • Thanks, I have more FUN doing each successive video. I should really crack down and improve the written content on my website but doing vids is SO much more fun!

  • Nice Vid :)

  • You are such a good instructor Scooby. Thanks for all the time you put in teaching us Scooby-want-to-bes.

  • haha nice...

scooby gives everything. even throat hurting voice changes =)

  • nice scooby

  • great video

    ima big fan scoob....

  • Cheers for cool Vid.

    Happy new Year Scooby!

Hope u will do a good video for lower abs in the new year.

  • scooby doesnt use drugs lol he just knows how to work out

  • you need to lay off those drugs scooby :)

    another good entertaining video though.

  • fuckkk your gettin huge scooby

  • Thanks but I'm the same weight I've been the last 8 years.

  • ur the best scooby raly i follow u and i have good shape now, thnks for videos

  • is that better than standing shoulder-lateral raises scooby? I see you can lift more weights and get a better form doing seated with your arms bent like how you did in the video...Also, should you arch your back when doing lateral raises?

Im still trying to figure out the best possible shoulder workout

  • hey scooby just wanted to say. U DA MAN!!!! i got a bit too much fat. and my fitness regime starts tmrw. and with your help i now knw a lot more then i did before. thanks man youve been a big help. keep up the good work. thanks

  • nice video thanks for the exercise

  • Haha nice video. I've been wondering for a while how to properly do this exercise. I always see people at the gym swinging the weights and using pretty bad form.

  • just do what he showed in the video. i started to do them standing which helps for me. dont swing your weights, or your back. i just think of my shoulder as a pivital point and just concentrate on that, works for me.

  • cute =]
