If I remember correctly DIC tried to follow the comics (which Sunbow ignored) and Snake-Eyes look like this once, same for Storm Shadow and I think they tried to get Snake-Eyes and Scarlett's relationship right (Sunbow again ignored that, using Duke instead), as much as they could 4 a cartoon.

Storm Shadow is a Japanese American born in San Francisco and spent much of his life in Japan learning the art of the Ninja at his family's clan He left to serve the American army in Vietnam and returned to the clan afterwards. He then joined Cobra after his uncle was killed.

The voice Actor Scott McNeil however is Australian (though he currently lives in Vancouver BC), he's a very prolific voice actor who has a lot of awesome voices.

This was the DIC Gijoe series. Hasbro went cheap and went with a cheaper animation company following Gijoe the movie in 1987.Before they were using SUnbow Productions. The DIC series ran 2 season starting with a miniseries called Operation Dragonfire in 1989. There was a few good episodes from this series. but overrall the DIC cartoons are what destroyed the Gijoe cartoon Franchise.

But they were very VERY badly written with poor premises(Iceburg being turned into a whale) poor science (you cannot get memories and skill out of DNA) and voice acting wthat was either over the top (Cobra Commander screeching like a little girl) or wooden and stiff (Anything said by Flint)

Found it. The Chunnel episode. However I'm a little impressed DIC included one of the October Guard into the show (even though Big Ben and Big Bear sound like stereotypes).

It also seems like DIC couldn't afford a lot of the voice actors. Many episodes have non-speaking cameos by both Joes and Cobra. And one episode (Victory at Volcania) I noticed features the Baroness and Zarana throughout BUT neither speaks at all.

I had such a crush on Storm Shadow when I was little. According to what I remember from the comics, Storm Shadow is Japanese-American and served in Vietnam with Snake Eyes, who is American of no particular ethnicity. They formed a close bond in Nam. SShadow had strong ties to his family in Japan and went there upon returning from Vietnam, and Snake Eyes later joined him as he lost his whole family in an accident. So they are brothers, but not blood family.

Thats pretty much it. The Marvel comics by Hama were the greatest. The cartoons and even Devils Due comics don't even come close. Hama wrote GI Joe like he was writing about his children. Devil's Due has been writing them like cheap fanfics.

IDW has begun republishing the Larry Hama issues since they got the license. The first 50 issues (collected into 5 trades) are out now. IDW is publishing issues 51 to 60 in November. Hopefully they'll get to all 155 issues.

Incidentally IDW is also publishing a "Best of ..." series revolving around various characters. Some of these trades have issues that haven't been collected yet.

Yeah. When Hama killed off characters there was actually some impact to them. When DD did it you could hear then snickering "OMFG! We killed somebody! We're k3w1 and 133t d00d!" For an issue or two they even brought in characters never before seen in comics like Big Boa and Tracker simply to kill them off in the same page they first showed up. They tried to ape Cobra Commanders son Billy by trying to give Destro and Zartan long lost children. Cheap jobbers.
