Why is there even a great music video like this so much bullshit talk...stop comparing it with today's black music, stop comparing the past with the present. Stop saying hip hop is shit, because you don't know shit.
Putting faces to voices of the songs we've always loved finally gives these guys overdue recognition for sharing their Talent, Passion, and Dedication to entertaining us / The Memories Are FOREVER !!
Hip-Hop is not even worthy to suck the dick of R&B like this! And yeah, Mr.Mikeb, Rap IS Crap! Long live classy black music like the Spinners, Delfonics, Stylistics and the great Smokey Robinson!
Thanks for this live rendition of this jam of mine from my childhood..still have the beat up 45 as well as a "Best of The Spinners", which is in much better condition.
@heine71 No, WNET/PBS SOUL wasn't anything like Soul Train. There weren't any dancers, no host... it was basically a concert-like program. One act would perform their hits (live) for an hour. It was a good show, though.
The Spinners, Philippé Wynne, Henry Fambrough, Pervis Jackson, Billy Henderson, James Edwards, Bobby Smith, G.C. Cameron, ( and other members that were added, as some of the members died, but I noted only the core of the Spinners, and I grew up listening to their style of music. Still one of my favorite groups. I remember when Rubberman Man hit the Airwaves, and Wolfman Jack announced it on the radio, lol, I was going on an errand with Pops, memories! Shot out to Detroit & Philly Sound!
Shit , couldnt nobody touch Phillipe Wynn with a ten foot pole as far as the spinners are concerned. His hits(voice) speak for themselves!!! maybe thats why when he left the group they went down.Without him it was like, who are the spinners? They never recovered!! Ya betta go and listen to "love dont love nobody" then ya betta ask somebody!!!!!
On Organ was Johnny Poindexter, on Guitar was Joel Jackson on drums was Sim London, from Cleveland , Ohio they were from The Belltelefunk who became The Dazz Band. They played on our first single.. I've known all of them since we were teenagers. We went to John F. Kennedy High School.
Love, love, LOVE the Spinners. LOVE Phillipe and Henry - great singers. But THIS is GC Cameron's song. Period! The passion, the range, the power aqnd the unbelievable high notes. Phillipe, Henry, Jonathan Edwards - can't do it.
Again, no disrespect to one of my favorite groups, But no other Spinner has been able to do the song justice. GC owns it!
It's a Shame.... that The Spinners are being nominated in the same group as Joan Jett and GNR for the R&R Hall of Fame...(it Rhymes..kinda)..should have been in 15 years ago....with Chicago.

I was living in Detroit at that time, and I never saw any of their live performances. I had no idea how great they were! Sign me up for the Bobby Smith 'Swoon' Club, too. I have to put The Spinners right up with there with The Mighty Dells and The Flamingos.
I confess -- I can't stop watching The Spinners' live performances. They were great! Whatever happened to our great music? And, why are they not in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Or, why not a Grammy?
@MsMissile01 LOL LOL I can't stop watching the live performances also!!! I watched Unsung about a month ago and I'm hooked!!! I remembered them from when I was little but listening and watching the performances now is totally different. I have a different respect for them and the music now. Boy was that Bobby Smith a good looking man!!!!!!!!!!
First off, the drummer didnt staet the song, the guitar player did with, that famous lick. Secondly, "if" u claim to be a drummer, u wld know live shows are sped up 3-5 beats to give the song drive to a live audience. This tempo was fine
The Spinners are the greats of soul and they make you so dynamic, because their classics that they had was so uplifing and they brought the best out of anyone that loves sweet dynamic soul all the way.
GC Cameron who sang lead on the original song did not share vocals ,here phillip and the other guy split the lead~. Phillip did not have the range that GC has! but I must admit! He did a Dam good job! I'm impressed~
Cowritten and produced by none other than Stevie Wonder, core members Bobbie Smith, Billy Henderson, etc. Hip-Hugging soul at it's best, and when Thom Bell slipped in the soul pocket, they made Motown look positively flacid. Philippe proved remarkable, and Bell - as classically trained pianist/songwriter - kicked some ass back in the day. Do yourself a favour: buy the "Spinners The Definitive Soul Collection double c.d. 30 certified deep-fried gems. It'd be A Shame not to.
It's A Shame was cowritten and produced by Stevie Wonder, core members Bobbie Smith, Billy Henderson, etc. Phillippe Wynne proved them all wrong when he slipped in the Spinners soul pocket. Do yourselves a favour: buy the Spinners The Definitive Soul Collection, double-disc C.D put out by Atlantic/Rhino: 30 SOUL-Hugging classics. Purify yourself. It would be a shame not to.
Watch out yow'll the funk is coming at cha, full force omg I just been hit in the face and can't stop dancing , could someone call the ambulance or 911 . Can I git a AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. This wasn't "bad" but that drummer played it waaaaay fast. Should be groovin, not movin. These guys rocked it regardless, but studio guys should've been truer to the tempo of the original, at least a little.
@theorytheorist They drummer didnt play it too fast, obviously the md told him to do it at that tempo. Its a common practice to play songs faster live then on the record :-)
@barndlsd I don't know if its obvious, but you are probably right, I think I worded my previous comment a little more dogmatically then I intended.
It's a great interpretation. I definitely liked it! I've been a drummer for 17 years and I meant to point out how the song seemed stronger to me when it was at the original tempo because it leaves space for the notes/sounds/words of the vocals/horns/bass/guitar to really make an impression on the listener. Thanks for takin the time to respond!
