  • If anyone wants to trade me a moog prodigy, rogue or liberation for my rhodes 73, let me know

  • what's a good synth for someone just starting out? i also dont want to spend too much money.

  • I'm tempted to say Roland SH-201, because it's so damn cheap, but it's not analog. It's virtual analog and only emulates analog sound, but it's a great place to start with little money available. I think you would be better off buying a second hand vintage synth like the Moog Minimoog or the ARP Odyssey. If you want something more usable in a production situation i would recommend DSI Prophet '08, Clavia Nord Lead 3 and Access Virus (A, B, C, TI og TI2). But only the Prophet is fully analog.

  • @Glisevask You recommendations are good but have one serious drawback, they are expensive with prices approaching or even exceeding the 2000$ mark. The SH 201 or its successor the SH 01 are a good place to start. Granted, they are probably not as fat sounding as a true analog, but they are easy to use and have good computer integration, also for recording purposes. Another great little synth is the alesis micron. Its cheap but loaded with features, only a little difficult to program at first.

  • roland sh-201

  • The Korg MS-10 is by far the most bang for your buck I've come across over the years. It cost like 400-450 Euros and it's abilities are pretty much endless. The sound quality is up there with the best synthesizers ever made. It's also an excellent beginners instrument: Very much hands on and the semi-modular aspect of the MS10 is a good start for someone looking to learn about signal paths and the like.

  • If you don't want to spend too much, ALWAYS buy second hand. Quite frankly I think you would be better off spending your cash on a Roland Juno-60 then on a SH-201

  • synthaddict is satisfied

  • i have one of these and oh my god! it whacks out the bass!!!! not quite as squelchy as the 303, but you can get pretty similar noises out of it. Apparently mine was owned by ABC and i bought it broken for £30 and all it needed were 2 transistors replaced. Cost about £1.75

I was so excited when it burst into life!!!

    BBBBBBOOOOM!!!

  • thanks

  • sweet! i am getting excited since a good friend of mine is giving me one of these!!
