Wait are they actually Prius fanboys? You have got to be kidding me. I have no desire to own an insight or a prius but only Honda's IMA powertrain allows you to have a manual hybrid and I will never buy an automatic anything, especially not a gay hybrid. Anyway, if you fools look it up, it is the CR-Z that is selling like crazy in Japan, not the Prius. Honda>>>>>Toyota
@CorvetteRacingFan Thank you for clearing out these people's unstable minds. To add a bit more, Insight got copied by Prius, not the other way around. Insight is cheaper, for almost the same thing. The front looks nicer, and is much better for familes who are a bit desperate for a car. And the best way to say that people should buy Insight is, You buy Prius, gas pedal jams and you go bye bye.
Want a good laugh? Look up the 1995 or earlier Civic and the same year Corolla. More power out of less displacement, much better looking, better gas mileage, and just all around better. I hate Toyota mostly because they took all of their fun sports cars and discontinued them. Honda has now gone that way too but at least they still build a good car and don't cut costs at the expense of quality or safety.
The 1984 Honda Civic Coupe got 64MPG on the highway and 48 in the city. There's no hybrid out there today that can match those numbers-not even the current Honda Civic Hybrid!
I test drove a slightly used Prius yesterday. 4 miles of city streets at about 40mph, 3-4 lights and a 1.5 mile stretch of highway. The car's computer said I got only 35.6 mpg for that entire trip.
I think this looks more attractive than Prius outside. Dashboard is too busy, but kinda cool too. It's not as efficient as Prius, but it's also a few thousand less. Does not offer all the high-tech features, but a Prius with all the gadgetry easily costs $10k more, not worth it in imo. Downside is it's slow, noisy, cramped, with bad blind spots. Totally confused why Civic Hybrid costs more and gets 2mpg better. Very stupid oversight, Honda.
It had nothing to do with the introduction of the Prius or the Insight's hybrid powertrain. You think Honda didn't know the Prius was coming out(rollingeyes)? Both cars came out within a month of each other. Honda said from day one they never expected to outsell the Pruis. Cars sells in general have tanked in the U.S. Civic, Fit, Yaris and Corolla sells are all down over 36%. Its no surprise the Insight's projected sales numbers were lowered.
I am a honda salesman and had the opportunity to TD both the insight and the prius. The insight is way more fun to drive, the prius feels float and although the dunlop sp31 low rolling resistance tires are not that great for cornering, the tighter suspension of the insight makes up for it in comparison to the prius. They forgot to menton the voice command navigation system in the ex insight. Also Econ mode which a tester said he got about 80 mpg (imperial) in the city.
I'm glad there are more hybrids being made but I wouldn't say this is a pruis killer though. They are way too similar. I like that its cheaper but the dash is a little busy for my taste. Also I like the solar roof option on the new prius. I think people were too quick to compare this to the 2nd generation prius when they knew the 2010 prius was comming out?
the official estimates are 40-45, but they got over 50. drive efficiently, and you'll get 60 - that's serious prius competition. while the new prius is less than beautiful, this is even uglier.
but it is much cheaper than the prius.
and think about it, if you can get over 50 mpg in the city and even more on the highway and spend several thousand less than on the prius - why buy the prius? one thing though, the fit does not do 0-60 in 11 seconds, but 8.5!
This car doesn't really seem that great... It's smaller and less powerful than the new Prius, but the Prius still gets better MPG. I think the only advantage it has is the price point. I think it's almost $3-4000 less.
Test drove today, completely loved it. Econ mode is smarter than i expected.. I got a 60mpg average going 65mph on I880.. I was blown away with the paddle shifters!!! It's a manual if you want it to be, if you don't use em, it drives CVT like the original insight. driving my original 6 year old insight into the ground before buying anything new but this is an awesome car worth checking out.
rofl, i aint tryin 2 start nothin, but abviously you are, chill out man, im just syain it sounded real gay i aont insulted you or shit just.. seriously bro, copy catted?
LOL its a fuckin prius with a honda logo, why can't they just make a civic with this engine in it, normal looking, not like a pod, idk maybe the future is podular
They do. It's called the Civic Hybrid. It has the same IMA hybrid system in it and Honda's been selling them for several years already. The Civic body style is not as aerodynamic as this, so the Civic Hybrids only get around 40mpg combined.
well i knew there was a civic hybrid but it's not the same same engine is it? I don't care about a few mpg over the total integrity over my car, like the guy says, "sipping gas" like a true english homo infront of a tea cup, AMERICA lol. i like hybrids, but i like american style, cant we just all get along

no i believe the test you were talking about was one of Top Gear's hilariously random tests they did where they put the prius on a track with a BMW M3. They ran the shit out of the prius to get the fastest lap possible and the M3 really only had to keep up. The M3 ended up getting like 19 mpg after a few laps and the prius only got 17. Point being: It's not what you drive it's how you drive it!
So when are they gonna make a nice sporty hybrid that people like me (who laugh at hybrids) might enjoy? I'm not talking about that 100k Lexus LS400h. And why isn't any auto company making a diesel hybrid? A 1.6 liter v-dub diesel engine connected to an electric motor might hit 90 mpg if you're easy on it.
because diesels emit emmisions that are much more harmful to the enviroment than the petrol engine such as soot and nitrogen oxides. and dont forget the higher price of diesel too.
Diesel costs a little more, but trust me, after comparing the mileage/cost of diesel vs. gas, diesel gets much better mileage to the point its actually cheaper to drive than gas. And if you're so worried about emissions, they could use a new "clean diesel" maybe like something the mercedes benz e-class has... but a 4 cyl. version of course.
I think it has a cheaper transmission to keep the cost down. I just bought a Prius, but would have been interested in an insight. Honda wasn't so interested in trading for my 2008 Oddyssey. That's the main reason I went with the Prius.
Don't really complain about the design, it's aerodynamic and because the batteries take up the floor space in the trunk, they had to make that hatch design or you would have a tiny trunk. This is more practical and frugal on all fronts than stylish.

At first Honda said they projected 90,000 of these being sold in its first year in the states.
But when the Prius came out, they are now are hoping for 55,000 to 60,000 units sold.
So this car isn't selling as well as they intended to. Apparently, no one is interested in mild hybrids
