  • Funny how none of the '84 Huskies apologists addressed my comment about Washington failing to win their conference title that year. I guess the truth still hurts.

If you can't win your conference, you don't deserve a shot at a national title. You can talk hypotheticals for another 27 years, but if the Huskies lost to USC by 2 scores, not on some last-second fluke.

If they take care of business against USC, BYU is irrelevant. BYU took care of business, Washington didn't, end of discussion.

  • what the heck ever happened to jerry adams?

  • Sorry,Washington couldn't win the Pac 10 in '84. When you FAIL to win your conference, you have no business crying about the polls. None of the Huskies fans here want to talk about that. They lost 16-7 to a mediocre USC team, ergo USC won the conference and played in the Rose Bowl. I'm not a BYU fan, but they had a better year than Washington in '84.

  • Washington pummels BYU in 1984 on a neutral field.

Biggest joke of a national champion ever.

  • @jacemrva And that "mediocre" USC team beat #5 Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.

  • @kidpoker76 USC lost 2 home games that year: a 23-3 blow out loss to LSU and a 19-7 loss to Gerry Faust's Fighting Irish. That's mediocrity. USC was beaten by UCLA(who also lost to Oregon and Stanford that year) 29-10 in the season finale. So I stand by my "mediocre" comment.

And I'll say it again, Washington didn't win their conference in '84.

All of the above factored in to Washington being a good team, but no better than a solid #2.

  • Tony Casillas is my great uncle's nephew. im not related to either one of them but still root 4 oklahoma sooners.

  • @penquin402 tony casillas was my football coach!!!!

  • @rb365339 thats cool. ive met him like once and i was really little when i met him.

  • waa waaa played in the "heat" lol

  • Notice the difference in maturity between kids of then and kids now? Wow! If those Q's had been asked of an Oregon player TODAY you would have heard "They'z otay, buths weez sure weez betta.

  • Jerry Adams, you old drunk...

  • Man, the newscasters act like this was a national tragedy or someone killed their mothers...

  • My brother-in-law played football for Ou.

    1980-1985

  • 1984 BYU Football - the most undeserving national champions in history of all college sports.

  • That would be 2007 LSU with 2 losses. 1 tof them to freakin Arkansas.

  • Conrats to BYU for the MNC. 1984.

  • Byu played UW in 1985 and won 31-3. They defended their title.

  • Hahahaha, tiannam117, you are totally clueless! :D Washington lost about 80% of their good players through graduation before the 1985 season. BYU beating the baby Huskies in a blistering heat in Provo doesn't justify your statement slash excuse. Btw, The Huskies played and defeated BYU 52-21 in 1986 in a return game in Seattle. Boo Yah!

  • Congrats to BYU for their 1984 NC.

  • Undeserved. No WAY the BYU Cougars finish unbeaten if they play in a REAL football conference. BYU football SUCKS

  • 25 yrs later and people are still whining. Congrats to BYU and their 1984 MNC.

  • Screw them and all puss teams that play no more than one or two competitive games a season. All the better when they get their asses handed to them in bowl games which they do more often than not. You can congratulate BYU on its bogus NC all you want to. Me? I'll never recognize them as the national champions of 1984.

  • Washington loss all those players. Who cares??? Who won, that is what the point is.

  • That's right and you don't know what you're talking about...

  • Yup. Gave up the opening kickoff for a touchdown and then scored 52 STRAIGHT POINTS before BYU scored a couple of late touchdowns against members of the crowd. And that was a BYU team that had at least TWO (supposed) All-Americans on its offensive line. Unfortunately I had to work that day but I remember watching some of that game on TV. Watching the Huskies get a measure of revenge for 1984 and 1985 was SWEEEEEEEEEET!!!

  • LOL, well we can go back and forth arguing. That's what makes college football fun though. 1984 was sure a memorable . Actually 1985 BYU beat Wahsington 31-3. So it anything it was solidification. 1986 was the revenge. '84 all these teams kept losing. I was young at the time, watch the game with my Pops. about 8 yrs old. Too bad the Big tams just didn't play BYU. They wanted the higher payout. Weel, we just never no for sure who would win. The debate is always fun. Can't wait for next season.

  • Good luck next season and take care. :)

  • Yeah, we lost all our star players from the 1984 team, we lost Jacque Robinson, Ron Holmes, Tim Meamber, Fred Small, Danny Greene, Mark Pattison and Vestee Jackson just to name a few. Also, we not only beat you in 1986, we killed you guys in 1997, then yet again in 1998. The huskies were without a doubt the national champs that year.

  • OU 2 losses, Washington 1 loss, BYU 0 loss.

Congrats to BYU for their 1984 NC. End of story.

  • BYU never played a team in the top 25 all year, where the Pac 10 had UCLA winning the Fiesta Bowl, USC winning the Rose, and UW winning the Orange. And you guys had to come from behind to beat Michigan on a neutral field, where the huskies beat them handily in the Big House at the beginning of the year. If BYU was in the Pac 10, they would for sure not have been 12-0.

  • BYU played a #3 Pitt in the start of the yr at Pitt. Pitt ended up falling apart in the season as did many other teams. BYU won against Wash 31-3 in the next yr. Lost in 1986 to them though. BYU QB was hurt in the Holiday Bowl. @ scores were taken away against Michigan. 1984 was a strange yr though, thanks for the memories. OU lost to a bad Kansas team. Washington has an argument though. Did no wnt to ply in the Holdiay Bowl.

  • Baylor and Air force flirted with breaking in Top 25 but lost a game they shouldnt. Baylor was good in the '80s. This what makes College FB fun. All the debates. Hopefully we get a playoff soon. Take care. : )

  • Agree, screw these BCS loving douches.

BYU won it all in '84.

    Utah won this yr.

  • BYU won NOTHING in 1984. They were VOTED as the best team in the country when they didn't deserve it. F*ck BYU.

  • Bingo!!!

    Agree.

  • They didn't "defend" squat. The two teams weren't the same and the Dawgs lost the most players after 1984. The Dawgs kicked BYU's ass in 1986 so the Cougars didn't have squat to say after that. F*ck BYU and all pussy teams that play no good teams every season and then talk about how great they are.

  • I'm a Husky fan and have nothing but respect for OU. This was our programs biggest game ever at this point. OU's lack of a passing game is why they lost, but they should have been #2 UW #1 and BYU #3. UW and OU would have stomped the coug's no doubt. Thanx 4 the post it brings back good memories

  • I have gotten in a arguement with BYU fans about the 84' season. It is such a crock of sh*t , that they won it outright. They had no schedule , and their bowl game was against a 6-5 Michigan team, whom Washington beat at Ann Arbor.

  • Not only that, but when the Dawgs beat the Wolverwienies that year (SC)UM had just beaten Miami and hadn't lost a home non-conference game since the '60s. The Dawgs held them to 3 points in "The Big House" until the last minute of the game. By the time pussy BYU got their chance at Miss-again the Wolverwienies were a mere 6 - 5, had lost the quarterback they started the season with, and basically weren't the same team. I would have liked to see BYU go into Ann Arbor the second week of the season

  • I have no doubt that the Huskies and the Sooners (and probably a bunch of OTHER teams, as well) would have STOMPED on BYU's football team that year had they been given the opportunity. The Dawgs led the COUNTRY in either takeaways or turnover margin that year. Plus the Dawgs were coached by Don James, one of the best coaches in the history of college football. Given a month to prepare for BYU's "queenball," the Dawgs would have DESTROYED p*ssy BYU. At least the Sooners gave the Dawgs a game.

  • Good Call, Rob. Very Good Insight! I just thought he went through puberty at like 9yrs old.

  • Washington and Oklahoma were the two best teams that year. BYU played nobody. What a shame.

  • Wrong.

  • No, that's correct. You're just a BYU d*cklicker.

  • NOOOO.

  • Tony Casillas looks like he's 35. No f-king way he's 20yrs old

  • r u a washington fan? if so, how did that last wash - ou game turn out for u? if not...y the hell r u on this board? i don't get it.
