"Everybody loves a jolly fat guy," but it seems those same people revile a fat woman, just because. Game developers and TV/movie writers will often portray overweight male characters in some positive light, whereas overweight female characters barely exist at all, and usually only exist to carry out sophomoric fat jokes.
