In Go-bots defense, at least the Go-bots on the show look like the toys. Anyone want to compare the Autobot Ironhide from the show to his toy. Yeah right! Like night and day. Same goes for many other G1 Transformers.

The "Gobots" toys were around before the "Transformers" toys, and the Gobots cartoon aired first also. The marketing for Gobots was rushed, which is why they didn't have the lasting power of the Transformers, which had great fiction backing it up, ie comics & a great (better than Gobots anyway) cartoon.

As for the actual toys, the Gobots generally were smaller & simpler than their Transformers counterparts, but so-what, they had their own charm & often had better looking modes to boot.

The Gobots franchise was actually purchased and trashed by the Transformers. They even made it clear in a graphic novel/comic where Megatron fights as a Gladiator and his first arena victim was...Cykill. Vicious symbolism.

@wilfam05 Actually Hasbro has nothing against the GoBots but some legal problems with Bandai has it that they can't make a proper revival (or merger with the Transformers); The best they do are some homages here and there. As for the comic Cy Kill vs Megatron thing...well the writers who made that comic and several before and after have a thing for killing of unnamed but obvious GoBot characters, well mostly Cy Kill and Scooter.

The Go-Bots were the poor man's Transformers. Literally. I had a ton of Go-Bots but no Transformers growing up. The year I put Voltron on my Christmas list I learned Santa's not real and my Dad's NYPD pension only went so far.

I don't understand just WHY you're comparing Challenge of the Go-Bots to Transformers. They're 2 different shows all together, sure the concepts are similar. But what alot of you morons don't understand, is that Go-Bots is as old as Transformers. What with its origins starting in Japan same time as Diaclone. In Japan, its Machine Robo. Hence why alot of the toys had Machine Robo stickers and they all had MR numbers.

well technically, the transformers show came first and the gobots TOYLINE came first. in my opinion, transformers is way better. i don't see how the gobots would compete to the transformers. the gobots has a short life span. only 66 episodes and a movie in 1984. transformers is 25 years strong with two movies and another coming out this year. transformers even has the new Animated series. The Gobots? oh...where'd they go when transformers released anniversary and episode season packs?
