  • This is wonderful. My personal favorite recording of this piece is from the great Mandy Patinkin. If you're a fan of the piece then check out his recording also.

  • I wish this wonderful man with that incredible voice was more well know. He deserves all the appreciation in the world. You know i cant find his 'Best of act one" album anywhere?! Whats wrong with the world?!

  • What a fabulous rendition. I never thought anyone could compare to Gordan MacRae but you, Anthony Warlow do and you are fabulous. Thank you for giving me so much pleasure.

  • The only man that did it better in my opinion was Gordon MacRae. But Warlow is an extremely close second!

  • @daneszohner Gordon sang an edited version of the song in the film.

  • This is why I love youtube. I've (somehow) never heard of this man. What a great voice!

I just saw Carousel today so - I'm going through all of the postings! :-)

  • never heard of him? he is amazing!

  • Last night I watched the brilliant Anthony Warlow performing as 'Ko-Ko' in THE MIKADO. he is a genius.

  • I saw that a few years ago in Melbourne and LOVED it. Ant is amazing in any role, and he just seemed to be having a ball as KoKo.

  • "you can have fun with a son, but you gotta be a fatehr to a girl..." the best line.

  • What a voice! What a presentation! What diction, what quality of tone!

Thank you, Mr Jackman, for a wonderful performance, and thank you to the poster for sharing this with us.

  • I agree with everything you said, but this is Anthony Warlow singing, not Hugh Jackman. ;)

  • D'oh! You are correct, of course, and I am an idiot.

My only defence is that I posted late at night, tired, and must have glanced up at Hugh Jackman's name below the video while typing.

My apologies to the great Anthony Warlow.

  • I absolutely love this. I love how his voice sort of shreds at the end of "TAAAAAKE it". This man's voice is to die for.

  • This recording is easily the best version of this song. Warlow has an excellent grasp on the intent of the song; he uses a fantastic balance of technique and interpretation to communicate this song effectively. John Raitt is a great vocalist, but I think his version is a bit distracted by his knack for using unnecessary vocal pyro-techniques. Warlow has an informed understanding of the intent of this song coupled with a flexible and consistent voice.

  • Absolutely right. This man has reached a point technically where he can express the song to the fullest without having to worry about his voice at all. That's the issue with most theatre performers these days. They take the acting portion to be more important than the voice without realizing that if you get your voice to a sturdy place you can have both. Technique should be focused on first.
