  • Comment?

This is Guitarplaying, Simple & Straight.

On what Brand are You playing?

    It is a funny Guitar.

If one listen to the old Carter examples,

there is no reason to play this music on

    Gibson's or Martin's.

Just the Old-Timer's will do Good.

    SingOut! Dude. You are Great!

  • You play so wonderfully. If you ever get around to making a video on how you do this, I'd love to see it, since whenever I try to play a Carter Family song it sounds like a couple melody notes and then a chord and then a few more melody notes, etc. I can't get that "two guitar" sound that Maybelle (and you) can.

  • Awesome. Sounds like there's 2 players. I'm impressed.

  • Really great playing

  • I've seen this a twenty times, and I will see over a hundreds times. Thank you, You are attractive person. By the way, if it is can, I want to see a slow playing version. If you show me, I am very happy and I learn it diligently, inclusive your face expression. It is joke. I am inexpert in english so I don't write much. Thank you very much again.

Forever Maybelle. Forever Carter family and Mississppi john hurt!

  • whats the name of the first song you're play'in? good job!.

  • Cannonball Blues,thanks.

  • Lovely i cant stop listining !!

  • CAN U LEAN SOME MAC WISEMAN

  • Your face is the best part. It shows you really love what your doing!

  • If my face was the best part of anything we're all in big trouble....thanks away slayersayer I hear what your sayin'.

  • I could listen to you play all day! Keep it up!

  • is Mac Wiseman still Alive

  • Is the Carter Family still alive??

  • They're long gone Tommy.

  • I Loved This Gentlemans Guitar Playing

  • great... love it all the way ... w

  • GREAT JOB MAN. AWSOME

  • Glad you like it Tommy.

  • wow, awesome!! i'm so impressed!

  • Toni your so sweet.

  • You NEVER fail to amaze me

  • Thanks,we must like the same stuff yeah.

  • good picking interesting to see some left handed picking. thanks for the video response as well.

  • real good picking, sounds like Maybelle.

  • you just made my day, thanks

  • In the video of wildwood flower here on YT, maybelle is doing a pattern of scratch-pick with a fingerpick. that's quite interesting and a little trickier...

  • I noticed you are left handed. That makes it a little more difficult, I too am lefthanded guitar player. Great job!

    Ralph5656

  • Rockin daddy-o

  • Great picking,, you blessed my soul, brought back some old memories of my dad playing, thanks

  • Nice Carter scratching. Luv it.

  • OMG! That sounds so good!

  • Would you list in order names of songs played.

Great pickin and w/o a thumbpick. WOW

  • Hi Lana, nice to hear from you again.First off its "Cannonball" then its "Wildwood Flower" followed by "East Virginia Blues"(I play this like Clarence Tom Ashley )then "Hello Central give me Heaven" and finaly its "I am thinking tonight of my blue eyes"

  • Lana. I heard "Cannonball Blues", "Wildwood Flower". "East Virgnia Blues", "Hello Central Give Me Heaven", (the next one is a mixture of "Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes & No More the Moon Shines on Corrina" I'm not sure if this was intended on the final song or not but it comes out as a blending of the two.

  • Great job. I loved the songs and the style was great. Until I heard the work here, I hadn't noticed the closeness between "Thinking Tonight of my Blue Eyes" and the more obscure song by the Carters "No more the Moon Shines On Corrina" But this tune has been used so many times for other songs, e.g "Great Speckled Bird", "Wild Side of Life", "It wasn't God Who Made Honkey Tonk Angels" Thank you for sharing your talent.

  • I thought the Carter song ya'll are talking about was named "No More The Moon Shines On Lorena"? Are they really saying Corrina?

  • You are correct, sorry for this delay,

The song was recorded in Memphis on November 25, 1930. "No More the Moon Shines On Lorena", They recorded on the 24th & 25th. Some of the songs were, "The Cannon Ball", "Worried Man Blues", "Lonesome Valley", "When the Worlds on Fire"... (19 songs in all on these 2 days). The more important tunes were recorded on the 24th.

"When the Worlds on Fire" is the tune that Woody Guthrie used for "This Land is Your Land".

  • I really like your playing and style.

But a little question, were you drunk were you played / uploaded this? :)

  • Its a rare sober performance although I may have been a little high.

  • That's the time this lonesome sound comes out the best.

Love your medly. Can play it miself now. Thanx for this performance.

  • FABULOUS!!! GREAT PLAYING,I LUV THE MAYBELLE CARTER SCRATCH. What guage and brand of strings do you have on the small body Nick Lucas Gibson Guitar?

  • Hi Lana, thanks for your comments.I used Martin Fingerstyle SP strings .012-.054, other than that I really like Newtone's same gauge but hard to find. Keep on pickin'

  • very good!

  • Very nice... reminds me a little at the beginning of Louis Collins by Mississippi John Hurt

  • Your play is beautyful to hear and watch...

  • You don't happen to know "My Dixie Darling," I've been really wanting to know how to play that song.

  • I want to hear that one to, please do it !!!

  • Lovely Honest. You made my day. Thank you ;). From Spain

  • Superb playing. You've inspired me to move up a level with my own playing. Please give us more. You've got yourself another fan.

  • I think you did a very fine job.

    Sincerely

Danny Meazell Great Grandson of Maw and Paw Carter
