That in the recent past the dollar was worth less then the Euro (or in other words: the dollar was cheaper then the Euro), was only an advantage for the US economy, because that meant that US products became relatively cheap in Europe, so USexports to Europe could grow. I myself am from Europe (Netherlands) and was in CA two weeks ago. In various shops I indeed was surprised to see that most products were made in China. I In Long Beach you can see container ships ... from China. So the misbalance in US-China trade worries me too. I have the impression that in Europe it is not yet that severe, but as many developments that take place in the US, later on also happen here... The big problem is that the Chinese gvmt artificially keeps ...
(2) the chinese artificially keep their currency (the Yuan) much lower then it economically should be (currency depreciation). They do that because the chinese economy still depends heavilly on exports, esp. to the US instead of national consumer demand. For the chinese gvnmt, that has a a advantage that they earn lots of dollars with wich they buy US state bonds. And so they become 'owner' of US debts and gain financial and political influence in the US.
What I see as a solution is that US and european gvnmts should make clear to China that import limitations will follow if China does not let its currency flow freely with the developments in supply and demand.
Btw: the US still export a lot to the rest of the world: think of passenger airplanes, medicines, cars (SUV's), studybooks, software, military equipment etc etc. But that something has to be done, is clear to me and to the Obama administration.

Deficit spending is justified in some respects, such as in downturns and for large infrastructure outlays (since you cannot possibly save up the cash to build it - it is like saving up money to buy house outright) but during good times it's not meant to happen. (2) the chinese artificially keep their currency (the Yuan) much lower then it economically should be (currency depreciation). They do that because the chinese economy still depends heavilly on exports, esp. to the US instead of national consumer demand. For the chinese gvnmt, that has a a advantage that they earn lots of dollars with wich they buy US state bonds. And so they become 'owner' of US debts and gain financial and political influence in the US.

What I see as a solution is that US and european gvnmts should make clear to China that import limitations will follow if China does not let its currency flow freely with the developments in supply and demand.
Btw: the US still export a lot to the rest of the world: think of passenger airplanes, medicines, cars (SUV's), studybooks, software, military equipment etc etc. But that something has to be done, is clear to me and to the Obama administration.

The soon to be new republican house majority leader has already said he will increase the debt ceiling depending on whether house Democrats agree with spending cuts. And two, if you knew your facts you would see that this did not start with bush (though he did not help much) it started with FDR back in the 1930s with his progressive laws he put in place so the government could spend more. Then in the 60s, Ford passed even more of those laws and since then, America has lost more money than it has brought in. America is broke, people like you are in congress, and thats why were broke.
