  • I want to get drunk with her

  • oh my god! she is so funny, whether or not she's drunk/high ! haha

  • At the "...let's just shut UP" you can hear just how much she means it. The 'fuck you' Emily shifting briefly from rant to plea; I think, intoxication or pretension or anything else aside, she legitimately just wants the music being played to be heard by people there who are willing to listen. Things she's said about creating "Knives" touch on how heartbreaking and difficult it was for her to do, it makes me furious the people there couldn't acknowledge that and give her some fucking respect.

  • :22 "Whaaat?"

    God, she's adorable.

  • I feel her 100% on this one. Whenever I play shows, they're usually at shitty bars and usually have of the bar pretends im not even there because they're too caught up in meaningless conversations!

  • this just makes me like her more

  • what a cool chick. I love her. Having to deal with a bunch of drunk idiots in the crowd would be hard.

  • CANT WAIT TOO see her at sydney opera house!!!!

  • Ex-coke addicts should drink lightly and rarely. And people who care about her shouldn't encourage shitty behavior. Emily Haines would be ashamed of this video ...and its 25,000 views. ...And people talk at shows! She's not in an opera house. She's at a bar, the Doug Fir Bar. ...And lastly, please grow a brain, people, or at least don't have any kids.

  • Emily Haines is an amazing artist. She's naturally beautiful and talanted. I mean honestly most artists today alter their voicese on the computer, and those who sing live and either lip syncing or just suck, but not Emily. Her singing is just as amazing on the CD as it is Live :) I hope I get to meet her some day, like I met shiny toy guns, it's on my bucket list.

  • @ufupn she did :) It's called an intro and when artists are nice enough to talk to their audience.

  • She's so sexy and Funny

  • fucking love this

  • it's seems like such a personal album. i would be choked if i was telling someone something personal and they weren't even paying attention to me. that's probably what she felt like.

  • "lets just shut the fuck up for a minute"

i love her honestly, fuck those haters

  • wow. i think that she is very inspirational. i aspire to have that sense of... i don't even know. it's like an ease of being. i guess. i could listen to her talk for hours i believe. i have only recently started listening to her, really. i've been missing out.

  • I dont get how people can complain about this rant, everything she said is true. And its not me just being "omG i lOVE EMIlY hAINES nETHING SHe DOES Is AMAZinG"

  • so tru. she was speakin from her heart and if they cant appreciate that then they were probably one of the ones she was talkin about. am i right?

  • @okJAVS you just spoke from the bottom of my heart (:

  • i want to strangle those who go to shows and sit there are talk like..

"oh my god.. do you like this shirt?"

    listen to the fucking music!

  • this makes me even more proud that she's from my school

  • shes one of those people that are so naturally poetic that shes even wise when shes drunk

  • i love this woman!

  • Emily Haines reminds me of Liz Phair for some reason. I think it was because this vid was basically Haines being drunk and being so insanely blunt. My god, she's awesome. <3 Haines.

  • do you know what that vid was called?

  • did i just read a comment that says emily haines doesn't have a great singing voice??? go fuck yourself.

  • i wanna hang out with emily haines man

  • Emily is hilarious, I love her so much

  • werd. Emily Haines is awesome. What was she about to play? the lottery maybe?

  • i love you emily haines.

    :)

  • Emily Haines is awesome!!! FACT!

  • snort snort snort

  • countless great performers are NOT great *singers*. emily does not have the best singing voice ever, but she works the hell out of what does have. musicians melt down on stage all the time, i don't see what the big deal is. rock on!

  • To any of you who have something negative to say....

Try just once to be a musician; spending the unknown countless hours just learning to play, then the hours writing songs and improving your craft. Then spend all your savings you can afford (from working a full time job during the time that you're spending on becoming a musician) into recording and putting out an album.

  • Spend the next year playing shows and trying to promote your album which you've paid for out of your own pocket. Pray you make some money back by any means.

  • Should you get lucky and actually have some success doing this once, trying doing it over and over and over for years on end just to have some random fucktard post a completely unsubstantiated opinion of you on some forum hiding behind thier computer and the pseudo identity they manufactured on the internet.

  • Pretentious, sure but she has every right to be.

How would you respond if someone came to your work and told you that you know nothing about the profession you've worked in and learned about for the past decade WHILE you're working?

    PS: Read these posts backwards

  • bravo!! =D

  • drunk/high.... i don't care i loveeeeeee her. her all persona, her lyrics, her solo work, metric... she is AMAZING

  • I concur.

  • haaaha

    I love her.

  • Dude, Emily is the shit. I don't think that was bad. Is was funny. I love that girl. Everyone deserves some time to let off ideas in their heads. I thought that was just some oerdue stuff. :D

  • whats goin on? i dont

    whats happening

  • i think she's awesome. how is this any worse than all of you hypocrites who drink and such all the freaking time at parties, rambling on about girls and boys and babble? at least she's spewing intelligent ideas. anyone who scoffs at her words of wisdom should take a look at themselves first.

  • @lexit word

  • oh my god Emily XD

ah well I still love Metric <333

  • I really like her solo stuff and for those who don't like her lyrics you don't know how to read between lines. Her lyrics and music are deep. I love her solo work and her metric work.

  • Why to you watch these just to flame her? If you don't like her, we a) Do not care b) don't need to hear it. Can't you find something more productive to do with your time?

  • hahaha "yeaaah, i think i'll write a song about it! thank you!"

  • a lot of what she says is kind of pretentious but i think she's just really frustrated with an industry she's been exposed to a lot, like with her father. I don't know, i think she balances it out with a lot of really profound and amazing things she's said. She's only human and it seems like a bad night, though she is being pretty unprofessional. I don't know what to think with all the drugs, but i still respect her.

  • it was diet coke

  • err.. no.

  • YOU SUCK THE BIG ONE

    lemme tell you this homeboy

    Emily haines is the shit

and you are just plain shit.

    she is pure talent

and you are a troll under a bridge

so shut up you fat scumbag

  • 'lets just shut the fuck up for a minute' I LOVE IT HAHAHA

  • rock on!

  • A-fucking-MEN

wow she sounded really pissed off tho lol

  • Emily, you go girl. Fuck the haters and the hecklers.

    That's so rude.

I hate when people are talking and shit while I'm preforming, it's so utterly rude, get a life.

If you wanted to talk-stay home or go out to dinner not to a preformance.

    Losers.

She had every right to give them a peice of her mind, she wouldn't be Emily if she hadn't.

  • Come the fuck on. She was obviously offended because some people in the audience were chit chattering when she was trying to perform. You go to a show, and you respect the performer because she's trying to share her music and a part of herself. You don't disrespect them, it's common etiquette.

  • She's ALWAYS like this. Drunk/High or not, this is Emily Haines. This is who she always is.

  • i don't see what the fuss is about. i go on like this onstage even when i haven't had anything to drink. especially if something in particular is on my mind.

people paid to see her, they deserve to hear her. i hate when people talk in the club... why can't they just go outside? you can talk anywhere, why there?

  • Hecklers in Portland, what a surprise

  • ok... I've lost some respect for her...

  • even though i love emily haines/metric/em n the soft skeleton, i kinda loss some respect for her, i dont really like seeing artists drunk on stage or whatever. But, i guess thats how she rolls.

  • you lose respect for someone for someone with a heart or a soul. i find this pathetic.

  • i cant really make out what she is saying..

  • omfg i luv emily but this vid is so funny.i feel bad 4 liking it tho. sorrs em.

  • I hear mixed things about her drug use, I think she's a casual user

  • Funny thing is, she makes some really true statements.

  • can you see the can of guinness on her piano? i was very entertained.

  • ah, she's an "artiste", she can have her own little things like that. Part of the deal.

  • i think shes totally fucking cool and you just dont understand

  • were people leaving? is that why she was yelling to the back then saying she didn't care?

  • emily is a reportedly a pretty active drug user (I've heard heroin, coke, etc.)

  • really? Where did u hear that?

  • i don't think emily iz an active drug user, how much have u heard she used?and what the hell iz coke?

  • What is coke? ... As in... cocaine?

  • yes, coke is short for cocaine.

  • heroin? i haven't heard that one...

  • dr. blind seems to be about heroin...or that's what it really sounds like to me.

  • i thought it was about antidepressants and how they get given out like candy these days, but i'm sure the song is a blanket term for everything

  • well some reviews choose that more 'literal' interpretation, but anyone who listens to all of her work as a whole can tell that she writes about drug addiction a LOT. Also several reviews have cited Dr. Blind as a drug song, not about psychiatry/prozac nation stuff.

  • its not.

    well, it is.

    but not only.

it's about looking for happiness in the wrong places, and how the persuit of happiness can do more harm then good.

at least, thats how i took it.

  • yes, she was. drunk and some dank maybe?

  • haha, was she really drunk at this show?
